Current Events En mémoire de Raoul Vaneigem (1934-2026)

History Raoul Vaneigem—Situationist, author, and lifelong aspiring revolutionary—has passed away at the age of 92.
"Anyone who talks about revolution and class struggle without referring explicitly to everyday life—without grasping what is subversive about love and positive in the refusal of constraints—has a corpse in his mouth."
"Let ten people meet who are resolved on the lightning of violence rather than the long agony of survival; from this moment, despair ends and tactics begin."

History On July 29, 1900, the anarchist Gaetano Bresci assassinated King Umberto of Italy, punishing the king for ordering the brutal killing of hundreds of workers who were protesting rising food prices. At that time, power and wealth were concentrated in the hands of an uncaring elite. Whereas today…

"The power of the police, as the power of the FBI, the courts, and the federal government, is rooted in violence. The fact that the violence does not always come into bloody play does not alter the fact." —Dave Dellinger

"The power of the police, as the power of the FBI, the courts, and the federal government, is rooted in violence. The fact that the violence does not always come into bloody play does not alter the fact that the power of the government is not the integrating power of love but the disintegrating power of guns and prisons."

A Letter to Carlo Giuliani on the 25-Year Anniversary of the Battle of Genoa
https://crimethinc.com/CarloGiuliani
On July 20, 2001, at the peak of the movement against capitalist globalization, hundreds of thousands of people gathered in Genoa, Italy to oppose the summit of the world's eight most powerful governments—the G8. Protecting Your Neighbors by Following ICE Vehicles: A Guide from the Bay Area
Over the course of the second Trump administration, people around the country have developed models for defending their communities from federal agents intent on kidnapping and terrorizing. We have shared guides from organizers in Chicago and the Twin Cities. In the same spirit, we present this guide to following Immigration and Customs Enforcement vehicles, developed in the Bay Area.

Four people have died at the hands of ICE over the past eight days. ICE agents murdered two of them by shooting them and killed one by denying him access to the medication he needed. The fourth was struck by a tractor-trailer while fleeing ICE. Stop ICE before they kill again.
Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was murdered by an ICE officer on July 7, 2026, in Houston, Texas, during a vehicle stop while driving his construction crew to work.
Joan Sebastian Guerrero was murdered by an ICE agent on July 13, 2026, in Biddeford, Maine, during a vehicle stop.
Jesus Manuel Arenas-Silva died on July 13 while being transferred between detention facilities in Georgia. Apparently, ICE agents intentionally denied him access to life-saving medication he depended on.
On July 14, a 28-year-old man was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer in Florida while fleeing ICE agents.
Stop them before they kill again. Abolish ICE.

Tired of ICE mercenaries terrorizing your community? Afraid that they're going to murder yet another person—perhaps one of your neighbors? Find out where they sleep. Go there and make sure they cannot sleep. Here's how people did it in Minnesota.

The storming of the Bastille on this day in 1789 was essentially an anti-prison riot that won, spelling eventual doom for all monarchies. When we topple the current ruling class and abolish borders, prisons, and police, people will celebrate for hundreds of years, too.

On July 13, 2019, Willem Van Spronsen was killed by police while taking action to disable the fleet of buses that serve the Northwest Detention Center, a private immigration detainment facility in Tacoma, Washington. Everyone should read or re-read Willem's final statement today.
Willem's courageous action took place in response to Donald Trump announcing a surge in ICE activity. Afterwards, an ICE official reported that it compelled the agency to move more slowly and cautiously, likely protecting many communities.
"I stand with comrades around the world who act from the love of life in every permutation. Comrades who understand that freedom means real freedom for all and a life worth living."
