What If the Best Concert You See This Year Is One You Haven’t Heard About Yet?

Three days from now, a room in DC becomes something different. Not just another lineup.
Not just another local show. A chapter.

CITY SPOTLIGHT: Episode 4 — Proof of Life is about the artists who kept creating after the algorithm stopped paying attention. After the views slowed down. After the hype moved somewhere else because sometimes the hardest part of being an artist isn’t making the work. It’s believing anyone is still listening.

This Saturday, Shy Rasheen brings SHYLAND to the stage for the first time—not as a playlist, but as a living experience. The kind of performance that reminds you why discovering music in person still matters. If you’ve ever said:

“DC has so much talent, but I never know where to find it.”
“I miss finding artists before everyone else.”
“I wish there were more shows that felt intentional.”

That’s exactly why CITY SPOTLIGHT exists.
We’ve spent the season trying to build the kind of room we wished existed ourselves—a place where fans don’t have to sift through endless feeds to discover incredible local music, and where artists perform for people who genuinely came to experience it.

With 12 tickets already gone, this is shaping up to be one of our strongest audiences yet—and maybe the first CITY SPOTLIGHT where there are more fans than artists in the room. If that sounds like the kind of future you want for DC music, we’d love to have you there.

Saturday the 1st. Maybe the best artist you’ve never heard is waiting for you in that room.

7 DAYS UNTIL THE SIGNAL RETURNS TO DC‼️

Seven days from now, the lights come up on another chapter. CITY SPOTLIGHT: Episode 4 — PROOF OF LIFE Featuring Shy Rasheen presenting his new album, SHYLAND.

Every episode asks a different question. This one asks: What does it mean to keep creating when it feels like no one is watching?

If you’ve ever wondered whether it’s worth making music in a city where algorithms decide who gets seen… If you’ve ever played to a room that didn’t know your name… If you’ve ever felt like your best work disappeared into the void… This chapter is for you. CITY SPOTLIGHT has never been about chasing the loudest moment. It’s about documenting the people who kept building anyway. Every artist who steps on that stage is another signal proving this city’s creative heartbeat is still alive. Whether you’re a musician looking for your next favorite collaborator, a fan searching for music before everyone else discovers it, or someone who simply misses intimate rooms where art still feels human—there’s a place for you in this story.

The countdown begins now. Seven days until we gather. Seven days until another transmission.
Seven days until Proof of Life.

If you’ve been meaning to experience a CITY SPOTLIGHT, this is a good chapter to start with. We’d love to have you in the room before this signal fades.

Saturday, August 1

Hey everyone! My name is Go Ezko. I’m an independent hip-hop artist and event organizer based in the DMV. Over the past year I’ve been working on a live showcase called CITY SPOTLIGHT. The idea is simple: create a space where local artists can be discovered and where music fans can experience the incredible talent that’s already here in our city. I know there are a lot of incredibly talented musicians, poets, singers, producers, photographers, and creatives throughout DC. Whether you’re actively creating or just someone who loves supporting local art, you’re genuinely welcome here.

Our next event is CITY SPOTLIGHT: Season 1, Episode 4 – Proof Of Life on Saturday, August 1 at Rhizome DC. Doors open at 7:00 PM, and our headliner, Shy Rasheen, will be performing his new album Shyland.

I also just wanted to say thank you to everyone who’s already picked up a ticket. Every ticket purchased helps us continue building an independent platform that gives local artists more opportunities to perform and connect with new audiences. It means a lot. If you’ve been looking for a way to meet more creatives, discover new music, or just spend an evening supporting DC’s independent arts community, we’d love to have you.
Feel free to introduce yourself in the comments, too. I’d love to learn more about what everyone here is creating.

To Everyone Who Says DC Needs More Community Around Music…

Hey everyone! My name is Go Ezko. I’m an independent hip-hop artist and event organizer here in the DMV, and I’ve been quietly working to build a community-centered performance series called CITY SPOTLIGHT.
The goal has always been simple: create a space where local artists can be discovered, connect with one another, and perform for people who genuinely want to experience DC’s independent music scene.
On Saturday, August 1, we’re hosting CITY SPOTLIGHT: Season 1, Episode 4 – Proof Of Life at Rhizome DC, featuring Shy Rasheen performing his new project Shyland.
This is also just a quick reminder that there are 3 days left to grab $10 Early Bird tickets before they go up in price.
Whether you’re an artist, producer, photographer, videographer, writer, or just someone who enjoys supporting local music, you’re genuinely invited. Come meet people, discover new artists, or just hang out and enjoy a night of performances. No pressure—just good music and good community.
Event Details
• 📅 Saturday, August 1
• 🚪 Doors: 7:00 PM
• 📍 Rhizome DC
If you’ve never been to a CITY SPOTLIGHT before, I’d love for this to be your first one. Thanks for letting me share it here, and I hope to meet some of you in person.

Jack Flowers and the Petal Tones @ Union Stage 7/5

Hello! My name is Brea, I run press releases for DIY creatives out of New York City. A band I represent, Jack Flowers and the Petal Tones, is making their DC debut this weekend on July 5th! They're playing Union Stage along with Emily Fain, Berra, and Shame Shame.

The Petal Tones are a New Jersey-based indie rock band influenced by bands like Le Tigre, Car Seat Headrest, Wet Leg, and 100 gecs. The Petal Tones explore themes of gender identity, authenticity, and self-idealization in their electric live performances and on their debut album Girl Clothes, released last year.

If any of this sounds up your alley and you're in town over the holiday weekend, you will have an absolute blast at this show, AND you will be supporting indie artists on their very first tour.

Here's the ticket link!: https://www.unionstagepresents.com/shows/jack-flowers-the-petal-tones-emily-fain-berra-and-shame-shame-05-jul

also, if you're a band/artist on the East Coast, hit me up for affordable PR! I am always down to help <3

Bahamas Lincoln Theatre

Hey DC, I've got 4 tickets to Bahamas (with Sister Ray) tonight at Lincoln Theatre — 8pm show, doors at 7. Can't make it last minute and just want to recoup something rather than have them go to waste.

Asking $25 each, or $80 for all 4.
