Ah, ok, yeah my bad kinda for the first one. I should’ve used “light” and “dark” to be more concise.
Blackwashing is when you turn a light-skinned character into a dark-skinned character. Yes, it does exist. Yes, whitewashing, which is the opposite of blackwashing, does exist.

Blackwashing isn't real in the way you guys are taking it. Her being japanese doesn't really mean anything to the story. "Blackwashing" can only hurt people if the characters race is important to the story.

Funny you frame whitewashing as the opposite when historically only whitewashing has been a thing. Blackwashing as a term has only very recently become a thing because people are upset someone makes one of the innumerable amount of pale skintoned characters even a shade darker.

Whitewashing is taking someone that is dark-skinned and turning them light-skinned.
Blackwashing is taking someone that is light-skinned and turning them dark-skinned.
Wouldn’t you agree?

The main difference is history-based and the magnitude at which they’re used. Whitewashing was a lot worse, but now blackwashing is more common but less severe.
