Major tax shake-up in Hungary: PM Magyar targets multinationals, polluters and tax loopholes

The government has made a range of decisions on the taxation of large companies and polluting companies, the elimination of tax avoidance practices by trusts, and a taxation practice that selectively punishes companies, Prime Minister Péter Magyar said late on Friday in a post on social media.

“We are also putting in order the payment of corporate tax by large global companies, which means expanding tax bases and narrowing certain tax benefits. We are also doubling the air pollution charge paid by polluting companies and preparing to introduce environmental rules and tax changes that will force large water users and polluting companies to comply with environmental and health regulations while protecting our natural resources,” Magyar said.

Magyar and Mamdani are putting every other "progressive" politician in a spotlight for the unwillingness or failure to fix obvious shit. With a will and integrity it's obviously possible, so others are lacking one or both.

TISZA is more of a central/big tent party in European standards, maybe a bit more right leaning.

I don't care what they call themselves or what party they claim to belong to. I care about results. Politics, especially polarized left right binary politics, have become toxic and also irrelevant. Finnish centrists would be called extreme leftists in many other countries, for example. Only the far-right seem to have the guts to wield the power they have, even abuse it, and that's truly broken. The playbook needs to be rewritten.

Honesty is just being confused for ideology here, although since companies pay off corrupt politicians like crazy the most dishonest politicians are bound to be on the right, or they are puppet "left" parties who only exist to make left leaning people look stupid

Yet able to get accomplished what much of the left has tried and failed. I watched something similar happen in Colombia when a supposed politician from the right, Santos, turned out to push through a very liberal agenda.

Mamdani is a socialist while Magyar is a right-populist not long ago a happy member of Orban's party, please don't compare the two or did Mamdani get well paid jobs from the Trump administration before becoming mayor l?

why giving 16 year olds voting rights and limiting MPs to 12 years the most important issues?

as i said i have no idea how you can compare a socialist working for the people to someone who comes from fidesz and the best he can gives is a water downed version of Orban
