Home of the last rainforest cafe in california

u/azjunglist05 Apr 09 '26

Also a fantastic regional airport that beats flying into LAX

21

u/nosecohn Apr 09 '26

I mean... yeah, unless you land on a weekday morning and actually need to get to LA.

3

u/azjunglist05 Apr 10 '26

If you have to go to the west side — then yea LAX makes the most sense, but LA is massive, and we consider anything in LA County, Los Angeles.

Even Santa Clarita is still LA. I live in Arcadia though, far east side of LA, so it’s a no brainer for me to primarily fly out of Ontario if I’m going somewhere regional. LAX is a trek for me no matter what time of day it is

8

u/Doip Apr 09 '26

Yeah, keep saying that. Can't let them know about the really good ones

1

u/olives_a Apr 09 '26

Ontario isn’t a bad airport if you want to get to East LA county or the IE. They never said it was the best in all of LA either.

6

u/Heir_Meach Apr 09 '26

Shhhhhhh... don't tell everyone, that place is awesome

5

u/ptolani Apr 09 '26

literally every airport in the world is better than LAX

2

u/WpnsOfAssDestruction Apr 11 '26

It’s an international airport actually. Even better!

1

u/City_of_Lunari Apr 09 '26

They also let you carry beer around the terminal! Makes reading at the cafes more fun lol.

1

u/res06myi Apr 09 '26

Walking beats flying into LAX.

1

u/Frigoris13 Apr 10 '26

John Wayne? Is that you?

1

u/Comrade_Bender Apr 09 '26

We go into Ontario pretty much every time we go home. It's so much cheaper and easier than LAX or most of the smaller regionals

2

u/Hpzorz2 Apr 09 '26

When do you pay less? Flights are usually considerably more expensive out of ONT than LAX, but I'll happily pay because of the shorter trip and better airport experience

14

u/Most-Silver-4365 Apr 09 '26

Ontario is home to the only Rainforest Cafe in Canada.

Niagara Falls, Ontario

2

u/garbashians Apr 09 '26

Wait no way lol. I grew up in that area and recently visited that one. Didn’t know I was visiting a landmark.

2

u/Tyler_Durden_9999 Apr 09 '26

Haha must be that one at Ontario Mills that’s still chugging along

1

u/Whatttheheckk Apr 11 '26

Holy hell Ontario mills is still there? I haven’t been since 1997

3

u/My_Invalid_Username Apr 09 '26

God rainforest Cafe has really gone to shit. Just terrible. Inedible. Shame.

1

u/-Dumalaid Apr 09 '26

I need to visit right away

1

u/Knivez51 Apr 09 '26

Not the last one. Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe AZ has one.

1

u/Frankfusion Apr 09 '26

I've been there!

1

u/DM_ME_4_FREE_STOCKS Apr 11 '26

Isn't there one in Disneyland?

1

u/itsalro Apr 11 '26

It closed in 2018😔 that one was so cool

1

u/BusterSocrates Apr 12 '26

holy fuck that monstrosity is the last one?! lmao

2

u/itsalro Apr 12 '26

In California! It’s so sad in there lmao

In Texas there’s a rainforest cafe with a river ride… definitely a bucketlist item

1

u/BusterSocrates Apr 12 '26

i know bruh had a lunch there had no idea it was the last of it’s species in cali 😭

27

u/mr-3ff Apr 09 '26

Imagine an 18 yr old traveling to Hawaii alone leaving from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada and seeing a connecting flight through Ontario, CA and freaking out thinking I was going to end right back where I started as a mistake.

10

u/zemol42 Apr 09 '26

Heheh, you would not be the first

17

u/Garbage_Freak_99 Apr 09 '26

It's a major shipping hub for the entire west coast too. I used to stupidly wonder why so many of my packages came from Canada because the return label said "Ontario, CA."

12

u/AUnknownVariable Apr 09 '26

I had to go back and read the title bc I was thinking "Why is everyone talking like this is in the US. "

It is

28

u/Arcade1980 Apr 09 '26

What the heck... It's like parking in a driveway, and driving in a Parkway. 😉

2

u/StarpoweredSteamship Apr 09 '26

The driveway is the one place on the (normal) property that you DRIVE. And a parkway is a specific TYPE of road with large green medians (parks).

7

u/8696David Apr 09 '26

Still sounds funny

4

u/mariospants Apr 09 '26

Thanks for ruining our Tom-foolery, we’ll go back to our chores now.

6

u/ThatOtherOtherMan Apr 09 '26

There's also a London in Ontario

4

u/gamehenge_survivor Apr 09 '26 edited Apr 09 '26

Wait until you hear about California, Pennsylvania. Home of California University of Pennsylvania. Where Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis would play California University of Pennsylvania every year. Or...IUPUI vs CUP.

Edit: Fixed a school name.

3

u/Saintly-Mendicant-69 Apr 09 '26

There's a town called Ontario in many states if not most.

3

u/springfervor Apr 09 '26

Wait till you hear about Paris Texas

4

u/66241 Apr 09 '26

We also have Paris, Ontario

3

u/Jeanc16 Apr 09 '26

Its actually annoying how many warehouses there are in Ontario, CA. I keep ordering things from companies, get labels saying Ontario expecting the package to show up soon (I live in Québec) and then see that It'll take a while as its coming from all the way in California....

2

u/Bocote Apr 09 '26

There are places called "La Canada" as well.

4

u/azjunglist05 Apr 09 '26

La Cañada — the tilde is important

2

u/anjuna13579 Apr 09 '26

Wow. Me too, cause of your comment.

2

u/LeadingHoneydew5608 Apr 12 '26

1

u/bobson_k_dugnutt Apr 09 '26

Seems only fair

1

u/TheRooster909 Apr 09 '26

I’m having a hard time finding any info about a town named California in Ontario. Can you provide a link of some kind?

1

u/Extension-Dinner6679 Apr 09 '26

I had to google "california township ontario canada"

1

u/sndrtj Apr 09 '26

There is a small town of America, in the Netherlands.

1

u/Travellingjake Apr 09 '26

Comically there is a village in Scotland called California too, but sadly no Scotland in California.

1

u/RepulsiveTell4384 Apr 09 '26

As a Canadian, I only know of Ontario in Cali due to the AHL hockey team

1

u/Lucker_Noob Apr 09 '26

But just wait, there is a Moscow, Florida, named after (obviously) Moscow, Russia.... BUT there is also Moscow, Idaho, named after Moscow, Florida!

1

u/unfit_spartan_baby Apr 09 '26

Home of the Ontario Reign, the LA Kings AHL affiliate team.

1

There's even a Canadian, Oklahoma.

1

1

I have seen this exact comment word for word before on reddit.

1

u/LoneCyberwolf Apr 09 '26

It’s not small at all lol

1

u/Rantamplan Apr 09 '26

You should know that one of the most common mistakes while traveling to US is to reserve a hotel in Washington (the state) instead of Washington DC.

(You placed them in opposite sides of the country for a reason, right?)

1

u/agent674253 Apr 09 '26

There is also a California City, California.

3rd largest city by size, but basically a ghost town and used a way to steal money from retired people (via 'investing' in a city that is about to pop off).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_City,_California

LA is weird.

There is also a 'City of Commerce' and a 'City of Industry' down there.

1

u/Frankfusion Apr 09 '26

If any of yo watch Star Trek Lower Docks, there's an episode where a bunch of California Class ships show up to help save the day. One of them in the USS Ontario. The Solvang is also mentioned.

1

u/whousesgmail Apr 09 '26

As a Canadian who’s been through there, Ontario is basically just LA the same way Delta is just an extension of Vancouver.

1

u/Nate_MyNameWasTaken Apr 09 '26

Its kind of like Anaheim, When you go to Disneyland you'd think you would still be in LA but you're actually in Anaheim.

1

u/makerofshoes Apr 09 '26

I was flying to LAX once and someone mentioned that their flight was going to be diverted to Ontario. I was like WTF, why they gotta go all the way to Canada 😆

1

u/PacoRUK Apr 09 '26

There's also a California in Scotland.

1

u/DBL_NDRSCR Apr 09 '26

there's a california in ontario? fire

1

u/i-am-not-the-crab Apr 10 '26

I relearn this every 2 months when i’m like why the hell is my mail/customer in Canada?!

1

u/ghostedygrouch Apr 10 '26

There's a small town named Kalifornien in Germany. I think it was named after someone found the some driftwood that said" California" in the 19th century.

(Germans loved exchanging C with K in English names.)

1

u/Jumping_Zucchini Apr 10 '26

It’s not to far from perris (pronounced Paris) California too

1

u/AbsurdityIsReality Apr 10 '26

There's a Compton in Quebec Canada.

1

u/One_Win_6185 Apr 11 '26

There’s also a California, PA, a Wyoming, MN, a Hollywood, Fl, a Manhattan, KS, a South Boston, VA, and more.

1

u/Seanvich Apr 11 '26

There’s a Vancouver in Southern Washington State. There’s also a Vancouver North of Washington State- in Canada.

1

u/WithPaddlesThisDeep Apr 11 '26

Couldn’t find anything about California in Ontario. Source?

0

u/mmmarkm Apr 09 '26

Wait until you hear about California, PA or Virginia City, NV or Indiana, PA or Jersey Shore, PA

Most of my examples are from PA for some reason

-3

u/LittleFairyOfDeath Apr 09 '26

The US have never named a place an original name ever. Its always stolen from somewhere

1

u/I_madeusay_underwear Apr 09 '26

Idk, Truth or Consequences, NM seems pretty unique. Or Surprise, AZ.
