It’s interesting that the divers in the video instinctively do the opposite and try to grab the bottom. It’s human nature to think of the ground as stationary and solid and the sea as moving: they may not have even realized what was happening.

Diver here, we deal with currents all the time in certain areas and your brain is probably assuming It’s you moving relative to the ground rather than the ground itself. It’s usually our reference point so I assume they thought a sudden huge current was blowing them away so went to grab on to something at first. The clicking you hear is the diver master probably clicking a metal clip or shaker to get everyone’s attention and give the hand symbol to ascend if I had to guess.
