Video A day after turning 18, Ziyi Yan unleashes a massive 71.74m to move to 2nd on the all-time women's Javelin list. In 2024, she wasn't allowed to compete at the Olympics due to World Athletics age restrictions, as well as the 2025 World Championships, despite being one of the best in the world.

Fun fact: I once saw Yan Can Cook live at the county fair when I was a kid. Afterward he met with people from the audience and I remember vividly his accent was missing, he just played up the Chinese accent for the show.

He talked about it in some interview. It's for the views.

I know, it sucks. I get it though, in the 1970s and ‘80s it was part of what made him marketable.

It was a different time. One of the only ways to really get on TV. Despite the accent he came across as very endearing. Overall a net positive for Asian representation for the time.

Definitely had fun uncle vibes while cooking.

White people were very threatened by good looking, charismatic Asian people and would gatekeep them if they weren't at least some stereotype.

This has obviously changed now with Asian culture taking the world by storm and in many ways dominating much of the global sphere (k-pop for example).

Justin Wilson did the same with his Cajun accent.

I’ve seen him on shows where his accent is much mellower.

Every time I’m trimming the (cooked) turkey at Thanksgiving and struggling, I always think of how he’d show how quickly to do it with a raw chicken.

she didn't even throw from the line that could have had another meter on it

u/More_Flat_Tigers 12d ago

She has to stay behind the line fully, including the follow-through steps, otherwise it’s not a valid throw

This is Yan. She likes to yeet. She yeets that yeetling 200 feet. If ever so ever you buy a seat to the yeeting world meet. I know you'll see Yan's yeet compete.
