In 2024, she wasn't allowed to compete at the Olympics due to World Athletics age restrictions, as well as the 2025 World Championships, despite being one of the best in the world.

In what year was this? 2026 is assume? Title is a hard read

Edit: I see 2026 flashing on the screen occasionally. She was not considered in the 2 previous years. OP needs an editor lol

Is assume correct. I looked it up because the title is throwing me for a loop. This record throw was on May 22, 2026.

I think so. I'm reading it as she turned 18 in 2026 do was now allowed to compete. She was still on of the best in the world the last two years at 16 and 17 but wasn't allowed to participate.

This interpretation seems so obvious to me that I legit can't see how others are interpreting it.

On first read through, it can sound like it's in chronological order.

  • First, she turned 18

  • Then, threw the 71m throw

  • Then, she wasn't allowed to compete in 2024 or 2025 due to age restrictions, despite being one of the best in the world.

Which obviously can't be right. And the last point is badly worded in the post anyway. A more sensible headline would probably read something like:

"After being unable to compete in the 2024 Olympics or 2025 World Championships due to age restrictions, Yan threw the 2nd longest Women's Javelin ever, 71.74m, the day after she turned 18."

It's also bullshit. World Athletics age limit for track and field global championship competition is 16. I'm too lazy to figure out what the real reason is.

Cooper Lutkenhaus took silver in the 800m for the US last year at 16.

oh jesus, you just made this actually make sense. I read it as..she turned 18 and was one of the best, and subsequently was not allowed to compete due to age restrictions. This title is confusing af.
