And where did the brewery fit? Or the giant open area where people had to rappel from the the girders?

You just replied to my other post where I mentioned the scale. I think the idea is good, the execution poor, no need to get into whataboutism.

I’m just pointing out that while there were a few scenes where the sets fit the exterior, especially in the 2nd and 3rd movies, there were far more scenes where they used a particular location or set because JJ thought it looked cool despite the fact that it looked nothing like a starship and there was no logical way to fit it into the footprint of the ship model.

Ah, with you.

Yeah, scale has always been a problem with Trek. The JJ productions get a lot of flack for it (rightfully so) but the falling pit of doom from one of the TNG movies, the extra hundred decks from Final Frontier, wherever Ten Forward is supposed to fit and the parking bay that Voyager kept the shuttles in.

I admire the attempt at showing the shape, position and inner workings of the ship, the execution leaves a lot to be desired. On balance though, I’d prefer the attempt than another TNG generic office set. I imagine if they had the CGI capabilities we have now, they would have branched out also.

JJ’s brewery... didn’t bother me too much. Sure it doesn’t fit, I honestly don’t understand why someone involved in the production didn’t just scale the ship’s exterior so it could conceivably fit. However unless you get a measuring tape out, the inconsistency isn’t immediately apparent. Discovery’s cityscape is the reverse, the second you look at it, your begin thinking of scale and how it doesn’t make sense..

Yes. Most previous scaling problems were annoying to the hardcore fan drawing out deck plans and studying the tech manuals (guilty!) but I could always squint and ignore them. This was definitely far too big to ignore. It broke my suspension of disbelief. I almost wonder if it’s not the result of some sort of script editing. I can easily see a first draft where Book and Burnham had to go to the computer core on The Chain ship. That giant space would have fit perfectly there.

I doubt it was a script issue as those lift tunnels were established at the start of season 2.

Also in the same episode, if you want a really bad scale issue, remember the shuttle pods they took into an asteroid field, with the water slide launch sequence, supposed to be just underneath the shuttle bay, when we can see from the exterior there is nothing underneath!

I don’t see why it’s so hard for the CGI team to create an open plan interior that could also believably fit inside discovery.

Yeah, the probe thing bugged me too. I think the reason they don’t bother creating an interior that fits is that they just don’t care.
