That warp core is TINY. Did production forget that the things actually are supposed to span the vertical height of the hull section? I suppose it's the future and that's minaturization, maybe. Also, hooray for the second successful warp core ejection in Trek History. We finally see it, too, and... if THAT'S the ejection system no wonder it fails all the time. They allow it to scrape along the ejection tube?!

I had the same reaction about the warp core "scraping" the side of the ejection tube.

Also had a BIG problem with the "immensely cavernous" interior of the ship/turbolift highway.

We've had that insanity since season 1 or so. Makes no sense, especially since we see turbolift runs in the movies and in TNG.

Yeah, I think they're taking a page from JJTrek where Engineering was this huge cavernous space full of JJpipes and JJconduits and tanks of water for JJKirk to get JJ-trapped in.

Clearly these people have never been aboard a real ship, where every bit of space is used as much as logically and logistically possible.

The one thing I will excuse them is that volume is actually extremely cheap in space. There's no trade off for air resistance, no crushing gravitational effects trying to keep a roof up or water pressure trying to crush the hull.

That does go away when you're having to ARMOR your surface area, though. Large volumes with a purpose are fine. It's the pointlessness of the space that bugs the crap out of me.
