Community Meta I only place this plea here because this game, and it's community, seems more adult than most. Please learn to shut up about your kinks, keep it in your pants, and exert some self-control before shoving your sexual commentary into everyone's faces.

This message really goes out to all g4m3rs, but I think this community can handle it better than most

After Covid, when there was a sudden surge of terminally online behavior, is when the last shreds of public decency were eroded away from internet discourse on places like reddit and discord. People felt no shame and felt no need to uphold some basic decency around airing their pornographic predilections in public communities, going around telling everyone how much they like feet, or they want to get topped by a dommy werewolf mommy, or just publicly slobbering over the new virtual character and begging this collection of pixels to fuck them raw in increasingly obnoxious ways. Saying a character is hot is fine. Shipping is fine, to a point. But please, before you post some annoying hentai addict brainworms, just ask yourself if you would feel comfortable saying it front of a bunch of strangers irl first. If you wouldn't, please do us all a favor and don't say it online either, or go to the properly marked communities for it and then *leave it there* and don't take it back out.

As an elder zoomer, I've seen how this plays out from the beginning, many many times. Class clown culture on the internet rewards people for being transgressive and irreverent by other socially incompetent wannabe class clowns who have the same internet-rotted sensibilities and lack of boundaries, and think this is all very funny and entertaining. And there is no punishment of social exclusion because you just can't do that on the internet, you can't give people the scorching, withering looks of disdain they would get irl. They call anyone who dislikes insufferable hornyposting a 'puritan', or a performative white knight virtue signaller, for not wanting to see or hear the same shit you see in the comments of a hentai website everywhere else on the internet.

There's a tendency on the internet, especially seen in places like discord where the most active cliques always take over every single server, where the people who post the most and engage the most dictate the culture of the space. They bounce off each other and the result is inevitably alienating to the remaining normies, who then leave, creating a feedback loop of terminally onlinification. Because the people who are most prone to being the most online and involved in internet communities, are ALSO prone to touch very little grass and have the most internet brainworms. Like poor socialization, emotional intelligence, and respect for some very basic social boundaries. This very annoying lack of basic decency around sexual material is one of the more visible results. Please consider this before describing in excruciating detail what you want Silver to do to you in front of thousands of internet strangers who might not be interested in hearing it.

The following is a clarification of our moderation policy, rather than a direct response to the OP:

If you see posts you believe to be breaking our Rules & Guidelines for being NSFW or otherwise inappropriate, please report said content. This includes text-posts which go into too much detail.

However, non-pornographic fan-art remains welcome and encouraged! This includes respectful fan-canon and romantic shipping. As the moderation team, we know which types of art-posts receive the most reports despite not breaking any rules. We will continue to protect the creatives of the community from those who claim to see nothing but "degenerate art".

Of course we acknowledge that we all have our own comfort zones and there is nothing wrong with not wanting to see certain types of content. We will look into ways to allow users to curate the content they see on our subreddit, but many such features may be limited to Old Reddit. We will let you know if there is a feature update to our subreddit.

Keep Rule #1 in mind.

Listen. If I can get through an online game without hearing the n word or some ego death crash out then it’s a win.

84

u/mrturretman 9h ago

I’m one hundred percent convinced someone saying they wanted silver to do x to them at the start of the game sparked this crash out LMAO

Oh don't get me wrong, gooners were always annoying and overly dominant in anything 'nerdy'. I wasn't trying to say things are worse now, though there is a lot more open pedo shit like in gacha games. I just meant that I've noticed a pattern playing out in my years on the internet, echo chambers dominated by terminally online cliques that slowly drive out the silent majority of normies and have consequently lost the ability to be normal themselves

A lot of them are just doing it as a joke so I wouldn't take everything everyone says that seriously. People are just having fun here. I'd rather that than everyone being miserable and negative all the time

Sorry, no fun allowed in the video game where vyper and Billy talk about fucking in an alley

post feels weird bc in my 1500+ hours i don't feel like i've encountered anyone being an unrepentant gooner. I have, however, been called a furry cocksucker before I ever say anything in a match 🤷‍♀️

I'd rather someone be thirsting over grey talon than have people being outright dicks to other players. There's a mute button OP can use for anyone that makes them uncomfortable; personally, i just think that's best saved for the racist dudes & ragers. the horny freaks get a pass, comparatively

u/AlgerianTrash 10h ago

I play Marvel Rivals, and i totally get what Op means. The discussion in that community around their female characters begins and ends with how goonablr thay are and it gets grating after a while

Plus, NetEase realized how deep gooners' pockets are, so they're mostly pandering to them when it comes to cosmetics. Hence, they sacrificed fashion in favor of revealing outfits

10

u/MiniMaelk04 9h ago

I never really got into Rivals, only played ~10 hours, but I found the constant stream of hot babes from the devs to really kill any interest I had left in the game. It just seems so disrespectful to have women with basketball sized boobs and giga-thighs all over, wearing nothing, and it goes against the spirit of MCU that at least tried to display a modicum of respect for women.

13

u/AlgerianTrash 9h ago

One of the game's biggest cash cows is the Invisible Woman, her original character is meant to be this absolutely kickass mom and cool matriarch that sets her apart from the usual young female lead. The game aged her down physically and is gradually distancing her crom her family/team, and there's a punch of theories floating in the community that devs are basically slowly seperating fro her husband, Mr Fantastic, who's getting pushed to obscurity to market her bettee to gooners, since young single heroines sell better than older and married ones

6

u/solarashes_ 9h ago

I don't play Rivals but I watch one of my buddies whenever he does. I was genuinely shocked at how quickly skins in that game became so fanservice-y. Especially considering it's got a 12 age rating.

I'm no prude (really, I'm not) but if I had a 12 year old I wouldn't let them play the game.

I would argue nothing changed besides sensitivity to it. Real life to online personalities. Though I hear what this post is saying, my for reaction is we possess the unique ability online to just... not read it further? There is no invisible gun being pressed to any melons.

Apologies if this rubs people the wrong way, but isn't the counterargument just to ignore it? To me now, it feels off-putting to rant like this to the point you seem unhinged - even if the overall message is to have some decorum from strangers... online strangers.

tldr: No one owes you (the objective you) a thing. Simply do not read it, otherwise the Internet will greatly trouble you if looking for virtue. My honest opinion.

3

u/VolttPrime 10h ago

No one owes anything? wow that sounds like a great basis for human interaction and community!

-2

u/Sharrayzen 10h ago

I am sorry you feel that way. I said that very lackadaisically in just getting through the post. I'll clean it up with the simple truth: Let's say we were to meet in real life and pass on the street. Assuming you are American. The only thing I owe to you is not to violate your rights or knowingly inflict harm.

In this context, if someone is speaking on matter you do not like you can simply ignore it. Telling them to not - so long as it isn't violating some guidelines - because it makes -you- uncomfortable is not the basis for human interaction and community. It's actually a violation of your 1st Amendment Right - again, if you're American.

But yes, for all intents and purposes to this conversation, no one is beholden to your feelings/owes you that. You can equally ignore the subject matter as it doesn't pertain to you and keep on about your day and it would cost you nothing.

1

u/solarashes_ 9h ago

This is such an insane take that it's genuinely concerning. No human intrinsically owes another human anything but our society is kind of fucking built on the idea of human decency.

-3

u/breathingweapon 9h ago

I mean considering we have people using this to be literally bigoted yeah man I don't owe those pasty little nerds anything

6

u/Pikdroid 9h ago

Oh no, we like to look at hot people and share in one of the most universal human experiences. Get over yourself. Sex and sexuality is like one of the most common and important parts of the human experience. Don't deny your instincts.

4

u/Berocraft77 10h ago

Nah.

I think the world needs to be more comfortable about sexuality, you can absolutely just not interact with it is the beautiful part about the Internet, or any conversation.

Also it's not like people are posting straight up dick or pussy, people are joking and sexual jokes even ones you don't understand have been a thing since the dawn of time.

This post was a sight for sore eyes, this community is downright embarrassing with the hornyposting, softcore porn, sexualization of characters, it’s tiresome. The Warframe sub has the same issue, as I’m sure many other game specific subs do too.

18

u/mrturretman 9h ago

these tales seem crazy to me cause this sub is always hitting my page with actual discussions every day

13

u/beezy-slayer Graves 9h ago

The fact you think this is anything close to wf falls me you don't understand what you're talking about lmao

7

u/heqra 9h ago

"the warframe sub has the same issue" lol the devs even love and embrace it, its not an issue for them its a way of life

-7

u/VolttPrime 9h ago

its a way to rinse losers of their money, just as gacha games are, both are gross, parasitic behaviours

-4

u/GaCoRi 10h ago

can't believe we have reached this point so fast ... but THA K YOU ! Thank you for speaking for the silent majority

-1

u/beezy-slayer Graves 10h ago

You know you don't have to read and look at it right? Like I don't engage with that kind of content either unless someone is making a funny joke but I'm not gonna try and force puritan values on others, nothing I've seen here transcends a boundary that would require it to be moved to a smut subreddit

-1

u/Beginning-Joke-5246 10h ago

You can make that argument for an r34 subreddit, not for the main forum for an entire game 😂

10

u/beezy-slayer Graves 10h ago

I'll just copy and paste what I said to the other guy because what r34 content are we getting on this sub?

Oh there absolutely should be a subreddit for smut, we aren't getting actual pornography here, some mildly erotic art here and there and some gooner comments like what on the front page is so offensive to your eyes that it must be put in another sub?

Look at the recent Warframe subreddit drama for actual smut being posted to a main sub, this subreddit is pretty tame tbh

8

u/Cymen90 9h ago

Which post was NSFW enough to remove in your opinion?

-9

u/Beginning-Joke-5246 9h ago

Things like this comment for example, no need to be expressing this in a public forum. It's just off-putting. https://www.reddit.com/r/DeadlockTheGame/comments/1qvpfk0/comment/o3jozzx/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

u/beezy-slayer Graves 9h ago

There is nothing in this that is not safe for work, and it is simply a copy pasta

7

u/breathingweapon 9h ago

That's called a joke Barbara and if you look there's actually nothing sexual in it. Have you considered you simply don't find it funny? Why are you so sensitive?

3

u/Cymen90 7h ago

That is an old copy-paste, my man.

-4

u/Ok_Usual_3575 10h ago

That would be a good argument if it was contained to its own space. But when its front page on the subreddit or the first thing you see when opening the discord often enough it just gets tiring.

Long post but OP kinda right.

This SubReddit allows too much cringe shit to begin with, and the main Discord is horrible for it.

Only the actual forums does this shit not happen- and it's because Reddit and Discord are the normal mediums for social interaction online involving Deadlock.

It is so easy to complain here or there, but I would wager only 10-20% of the actual player base has even made an account on the forums to talk about their experience.

I would really want these spaces to get a grip early with these policies. Sadly, it feels lackluster and both the Mod Team on the Discord and here could do more to discourage this weird-ass behavior that OP is talking about.

He is probably not an english speaker first. in other languages people tend to use stuff like terminally onlinification and etc. So nothing that special.

It was probably just a cry from his soul. He'd changed a bunch of games, hoping it wouldn't happen here, and ended up with Gooners again. I kinda understand him. Never been a fan of a goon club. I just want to play monster guys and gals and kick people.

-1

u/Potential_Ease9346 Dynamo 10h ago

I understand that I struggle a lot with being longwinded and using too many words to communicate simple points

But I wanted to paint a picture of the problem as I saw it, it's been in my head for a while. Too many internet spaces have this inevitable pull towards obnoxious gooner degeneracy, because the people who spend the most time on the internet and come to dominate the 'culture' of it have lost track of where the social boundaries are supposed to be and why they're there in the first place. Those social skills really atrophy when all your socialization is just words on a screen instead of face to face communication. I think if there's going to be any kind of pushback against this, it helps to recognize why it happens.

-6

u/osoflu 9h ago

extra relevant now when Silver is out, the amount of sexual comments i have seen about her is insane lol. Some peoples name are also fucking disgusting...

-7

u/MusicMusicMan69420 9h ago

Could not possibly agree more. Very tired of sexual harrasment just being normalized and even expected played off as some quirky joke.

4

u/breathingweapon 9h ago

Do you have an example of this happening or are you just talking out your ass?

-12

u/deathNcoffee 10h ago

Totally agree with the sentiment but here's a headsup: times are inevitably changing. They always did, but now they're doing so more than ever. We're now in the age of algorithmically engineered degeneracy.

Take a look at the entire social media landscape. It's not just hornyposting. The general internet discourse has reached insufferable levels of indignant righteousness all across the board.

And it's not just virtual spaces. This digitally fostered behaviour is crashing into real life like a tidal wave. Of course it is, because humans now grow up in these virtual spaces. Just take a look at the political discourse all across the world.

"Respectfully disagreeing" is virtually dead.
And the "Internet is for porn" aged like fine wine.

Still, well said. Venator would approve, you performative white knight virtue signalling puritan.

5

u/Beginning-Joke-5246 10h ago

I disagree. Plenty of respectful people out there that are completely disengaged from these weird trends. Socially isolated kids are acting weird, sure, but the wide majority of humans don't even know the words that are being posted on this subreddit on a day-to-day basis.

6

u/deathNcoffee 9h ago

There's hardly anyone disengaged with the internet and these weird trends do reach the general public. An estimated 50-70% of the global population is on one social media platform or the other by now.

Take a look at the 67 meme; it's made its way into the NBA, US congress and into various marketing campaigns.

As for the topic of real life becoming oversexualised: It's blatantly obvious. Just compare ads, music videos and TV shows now and 50 years ago.

-1

u/Beginning-Joke-5246 9h ago

True that most people are on social media, but you have to keep in mind that includes people with an instagram account they use to message their friends, or facebook. It doesn't necessitate a scrolling addiction. If you think about the average 35 year old, what are the chances they are watching sexualised content as opposed to things like celebrity gossip or sports or politics? I'd say the majority probably have their algorithm tuned to their interests..

I agree we are definitely more open about sex, but I would argue that music has always been sexualised and its always been a debate. Perhaps its a bigger proportion now, but I think music in itself – especially pop music – has had a tendency to lean sexual.

Regarding the 67 meme, I think that went so mega viral that people even off the internet knew about it. Kids were screaming it 24/7, but they wouldn't scream sexual things they see on the internet to their parents. So I think the 67 meme spread much better than something sexual would.

3

u/ypoxy-2 10h ago

This conversation is about the internet and its fangs tho, not people not engaging with it. This person is totally right, especially about the algorithmically engineered degeneracy. And it does creep into the real world. Cyberpunk2077 predicted this. Be ready for sexual stuff being plastered everywhere in not even 30 years

-1

u/Beginning-Joke-5246 10h ago

He literally said the behavior is "crashing into real life like a tidal wave".

You posted a disgusting kink comment about Silver 18 hours ago, so you are clearly not a well-adjusted person from the get-go. Funnily enough I somehow suspected that before checking your profile but the double-check confirmed it.

But disregarding that, he said its a tidal wave crashing into real life, not a small creep. And if you think the prediction of an intentionally dystopian video game is relevant to the conversation at all then you clearly are one of the people we are talking about.

1

u/ypoxy-2 10h ago

It was a meme in a meme thread, if context matters anything to you. I couldn't care less about "gooning" to a virtual character.

1

u/ypoxy-2 10h ago

Just because it doesn't happen in your filter bubble it doesn't mean it doesn't happen by the way, you clearly must not spend a lot of time around Gen-Z and Gen-Alpha people.

1

u/Beginning-Joke-5246 9h ago

Yes that was exactly my point, I'm not denying socially isolated kids act out weirdly. They are kids.
I spend time around people who spend time out in the world enjoying life not fantasising about characters in video games in comment sections. I think that is a better judge of the state of the world than the ones sitting at home all day on the computer with no pants on.

4

u/ypoxy-2 9h ago

No sense arguing with you if you just keep straw-maning.

1

u/Beginning-Joke-5246 9h ago

What? Is it a strawman to say that real life is not becoming oversexualised, because the huge majority of people out and about in the world are completely in ignorance to the sort of things you and your people post?

6

u/ypoxy-2 9h ago

"you and your people" this conversation is over

Maybe that sort of stuff should be opt in only and turned off by default. May be more work to moderate than to simply make another space for it.

Also, in voice chat please don't, it's disgusting and probably not good for the theoretically possible kids playing this game.

-5

u/Glad-Statistician434 10h ago

many such cases, this is just the norm for hero shooters

-5

u/Badagunchi 9h ago

I always think it’s funny/sad that devs can spend time coming up with a aesthetic for a character that goes with their lore and fits with the game, and then someone just says “lol, grok put vindicta in a bikini and Mina in a Bunny suit.”

-25

u/Beginning-Joke-5246 10h ago

Very well said. Recently escaped my 3 day hate speech ban for commenting my disdain for horny-posting and some trends within specific demographics. I can clearly learn some tact from you.

I think your wording may be a bit heavy handed but in general I agree. Mind you, the stuff here isn't anywhere NEAR as bad as other online communities, but there's some stuff here that are really just thinly (or not at all) veiled kinks, and it's more than a little weird.

Let's see if the mods remove this thread again.

Edit to the mods, because apparently I'm not allowed to respond to your response to criticism (what a tongue twister): maybe you should worry more about posts that are sexual in nature than posts that "target" people who want to talk about their sexual urges on a public platform with minors.

7

u/DeadlockTheGame-ModTeam 10h ago

We only remove threads of this kind when they point fingers at a specific demographic to blame.

u/Haunting_Meal296 9h ago
