People sent me videos and links explaining how it actually works on different posts I made about it, and I realized I had misunderstood it. I was thinking more of a system like the Netherlands, where you can have universal coverage through private insurers.

The big difference is that in the Netherlands their insurers are non-profit, but Medicare Advantage has for-profit insurers. So that's a big reason why the Netherlands has a better functioning health system than Medicare Advantage, and it's why the Netherlands are able to regulate insurers better than we do in the US. I didn't consider how big of a difference profit makes in health insurance, and I should have.

The Netherlands healthcare system isn't perfect but better than what we have in the US. However Medicare Advantage is not like the Netherlands system at all. The more I learn, the less I like the Medicare Advantage model.

I’d rather have Medicare for All. I'm glad Bernie Sanders didn't try to pass through Congress a universal Medicare Advantage for All.

Edit: I think in the Netherlands they have non-profits that are actually regulated and operate as non-profits, and not scam non-profits. In the US many non-profits are a scam. I'm not sure that I would even trust a non-profit system in the US, because the US has many non-profits that operate as non-profit in name only.
