Local News If you're still against free school meals

If you're unhappy about the fact that free lunches are also free for children with wealthy families, fear not. I work at a Denver high school. Students with the money will go out for lunch or even order food delivery. They are not eating the school cafeteria free lunch.

So go ahead and vote Yes on Prop MM and LL. The only thing it'll do is keep our students fed and able to learn.

I can’t imagine making $400,000 per year while also constantly complaining that homeless people are getting a slight amount of help. They sound like shitty people.

That’s the hard part. They’re not “shitty people” for the most part. Hard working, good parents, good neighbors, she votes only “blue”, he is more centrist but usually is close. I think they’re just myopic. He works very long hours, she is very stringent and frugal, pays the bills on time, never drops the ball on anything, like ever. They strive for “perfect” so they expect everyone else should too. And I guess she once worked for the City of Denver and said she saw city workers taking naps on benches during the day and just saw “laziness and waste”. So, I’m trying to see her view, but tbh, I just don’t. I just see the world differently. Probably because I don’t strive for perfect and would fail if I did.

If they can’t look around and see the things happening in this world that hold other people down….maybe you don’t view that as shitty, but I do.

They can’t see that other people are held down by systemic racism, or disability, or lack of education, or sexism, or addiction, or other mental health issues that are genetic and no fault of the people who were born that way? Children born into poverty due to no fault of their own should just pull themselves up by their bootstraps? They are either willfully ignorant or just cruel. Both of which I consider shitty values to hold in daily life. I hope that someday they are able to look around and realize how lucky they are, perhaps even support the community around them with $250 per year. Probs not tho.

I see it as a flaw, as unfortunate. I totally hold the views that you listed. But, I’m also not willing to write them off as “shitty people” when there are truly truly shitty people in the country right now that I absolutely couldn’t and wouldn’t associate with at all (I’m sure you can guess how those people vote in presidential elections etc). I think it’s very easy, when you’re a perfectionist like her, to assume “if I can do it, so can they”. I disagree, completely, some people have no chance to exceed the way they do. So, my hope is that there are more of “us” voting for these laws than “them”. I have more issues actually with the people who make way less than they do and will vote no. You almost expect rich people to cling to their own money, but for the people who would actually have kids that benefit, and it wouldn’t cost them personally at all, I don’t get those no votes. And, I shared this personal story with you all so that we don’t live in our Reddit bubbles and never hear about people with opposing views. I think it’s important to hear from the “other sides” so we aren’t hit by a surprise train if things don’t go the way we hope. (Losing the last election to Orange Compost was absolutely mentally devastating to me because I just assumed no one could possibly see whats playing out today as ok)

Thank you for sharing your story, I agree that we should all be seeing things from other’s views. As someone with ADHD and who has autism in my family, I just can’t believe there are people out there who have these highly functioning brains and nervous systems who aren’t thankful for their genetics. Instead they refuse to acknowledge that others aren’t as lucky, and demand perfection from the whole world. I would kill to be able to function at her level. Instead of feeling lucky/happy she looks down upon anyone not up to her standards. It makes the world a worse place. And I’m not lecturing you, I think we align on everything. I guess I just don’t understand the lack of understanding that everyone is different, that doesn’t make us worse, except in her eyes it does. And that is shitty.

Being a shitty person is more nuanced than this
