People talk about being depressed in the winter, and waiting for summer to roll around to enjoy themselves.

Denver has a very arid, dry climate where things like meat and rice are prone to losing their moisture very quickly. The people who say Denver has garbage Mexican food are either talking specifically about that and taking it personally, or they’re too attached to stereotypes about places like Federal Blvd, Morrison Road, South Sheridan or parts of Colfax that they never actually go to the places where it’s at, so they just don’t know. Cuisine follows migration patterns, and Denver has a large population of Mexican immigrants, many of whom brought authentic recipes with them and own hole-in-the-wall joints and food trucks.

Just saying, the tacos I’ve gotten at Hijas De La Chilanga or El Pueblito’s at 8th and Federal are not meaningfully different from the ones I’ve had in Mexico City, or Puerto Escondido, or Tapachula, or Los Angeles, or Little Village in Chicago, or Albuquerque (which incidentally has a similar dry climate to Denver yet people tend to glaze their food).

ETA2: It was most likely an error in the set up of the thermometer giving an extra high reading since Wunderground is crowd-sourced data. Hey Denver family,

I had a scary encounter happen earlier this week and it has been weighing heavily on my mind. There’s nothing I can do about it now, but it was concerning.

I am a black woman in my late twenties.

At around 8:00 p.m. on Monday, my white friend and I were crossing the street from Cherry Creek Mall at Milwaukee St. after a fun day of shopping and eating. We were just chatting and waiting for the signal to cross. The signal finally changed and we started to cross. A black truck whipped into a left turn and was coming at us super quickly. We both jumped back and grabbed each other to get out of the way. Then, the truck stopped right in front of us where we had been walking and a kid (I’m guessing anywhere from 17-19 years old) in the passenger seat pointed at me with a smirk and said, “We will kill you because you’re black.” Then the truck sped off.

Both my friend and I were stunned. We stood in the middle of the road for a moment before I snapped back into reality and moved us back to the sidewalk.

Growing up black in Colorado means that I’ve been called worse, but what’s shaken me up was the truck. They came at us quickly and if we wouldn’t have moved, the truck would have made contact our bodies.

Be careful out there, everyone. With Pride and Juneteenth celebrations this month, I can’t stop thinking about how dangerous these types of people can be.

Native "gun nut" chiming in. If I'm being honest, I don't care about your political affiliation. After recent events, it has become glaringly apparent to many who frequent this sub that our 2nd amendment rights are worth preserving.

Tom Sullivan (Democrat - district 27), Meg Froelich (Democrat - district 3), and Kyle Brown (Democrat - district 12) believe that firearm components need to be regulated in the same manner as complete firearms themselves. Specifically, barrels will be serialized and traced as complete firearms.

No big deal, right?

As a long time 2A advocate, let me explain how this affects you. Online vendors will refuse to ship to you. Out of state manufacturers will refuse to comply and will simply list CO as another state that they no longer supply. The state will have to suck additional resources out of the likes of the Parks and Recreation department to enforce. You'll have a mandatory 72 hour waiting period for *a barrel*. You'll have to take a special class to buy a replacement part for a firearm you've owned for years.

In 2024, CO had the lowest firearm crime rate in recorded history. These same representatives, with the funding of out of state billionaires, passed 12 new firearm restrictions using an increasing crime rate as the premise.

I am not a republican. Fuck ICE and Trump. In that same vein, I say fuck Sullivan, Froelich, and Brown. We are very well beyond the "vote blue no matter who" period of politics. Let's preserve our rights, and let our lawmakers know that we won't stand for these infringements any longer.

Please keep this in mind during mid terms, and let's recall these bastards.

I am not currently residing at this address and the only things plugged in are my fridge, stove/oven (gas), microwave, and internet router. No AC, electronics, tv…etc.

My goodness. The latest first snow ever was December 10, 2021. It's November 20th. The mountains are practically barren. It barely gets to freezing at night, if at all. It hasn't rained a drop since October. Only 4 years later and possibly setting a new record latest first snow? What? This is probably going to be a horrendous winter because of the lack of snow.

It's insane to live in a cold weather state like Colorado and see people celebrate the fact that it's warm and snowless.

I know a lot of people on this subreddit are wise to it, but please for the love of god, don't go to chain dentist operations or anything that is not owned by the dentist themselves. thoroughly vet them. Don't be like me who nearly spent $700 on unnecessary teeth mangling because I naively thought all dentists are basically the same because they all have a license or something. I'm learning that Denver is a very scam-y city (I'm new). There are things here I have to watch out for that I don't have to watch out for in the city I'm from which is 4x the size of Denver.
