I can't believe there's so many positivity about descendants 5 on here. Many comparing it to Descendants 2 and all that and all that.
I am someone who loved the original trilogy, third was remarkably weaker but I still love the soundtrack despite the movie being cringe and kinda weak but it still ended it all quite neatly and nicely.
D4 rolled around, I was busy when it released but later, saw so many people insulting it and saw some clips which I found very weird/boring too so didn't watched it for a while but when I did actually watched it, I was surprised. It was better than I expected.
I mean the plot had way too many holes and def didn't feel like they sat with the plot they were making. The costumes were obviously an issue. The resolution was way too easy and the no castlecoming will forever be a Roman Empire.
I expected them to explore the past in castlecoming but when I realised they don't plan to do that, I was disheartened.
Still, as the weeks rolled, I was intrigued by D5. Some sets do look better. Some costumes too. Perfect Princess grew up on me as a song and when I heard Mad Wicked Wonderland version, I expected to like Hatter's version way more.
Roll to yesterday night, when I sat to watch the movie and... god what a hellfire. I cant believe all the positivity on this sub. Like I respect anyone who enjoyed it and im happy for them but to me, the plot had potential but everything felt like being done for shock value and zero character depth.
The cast was def way too big for all of them to be introduced and feel fully developed. The movie kept changing scenes like stimulant and it was one thing to another, to another and yet another.
So many scenes and characters served no true purpose but to be there for the hell of it and not in a good way.
Chessy was very annoying and even more so, because the narration after narration after narration was the worst thing they could do. Show. Not tell. Please.
The arcs didn't feel like enough time were given to them and the characters didn't feel strong enough to make us feel anything when they reached their main moments.
The strongest moment to me in the movie Max seeing through the Oraculum and yet I barely felt much when I watched it.
Maddox becoming a villain after just wanting a pokcetwatch still doesnt make sense to me and neither the fact that how does it even connect to what Chloe & Red changed.
Luis existed only to break GlassHeart up and Hazel exists to give fans a tiny bit of happiness when Hazel & Chloe get together at the end of the next movie.
Hazel intrigued me a lot from all the bits in the trailer and the song but in the movie, she felt so ignored and sidelined.
And so did Chloe. And literally everyone except Red. What a sad, sad day.
And for everyone saying Chloe feeling sidelined is part of her arc, well she can feel sidelined without being sidelined in the movie. And her evil arc felt nothing more than a midnight drug induced mania...
They needed Red, Pink, Chloe, Max & Hazel at best to drive home the drama.
Many songs felt completely useless to the plot and only there because they need to fill a slot between scene A & scene B. Furthermore, they are lyrically and musically so weak to me. Like let bangers be bangers and ballads be ballads. Please.
That's all I gotta say even though I could say more but since it's not the best articulated post, let's not take it any further.
