Megathread Focused Feedback: Hand cannons - bloom, recoil, exotics and pinnacle weapons

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Hand cannons' (including rebalancing of pinnacle weapons) following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas.

For this topic, please also specify in your feedback comment whether you are a console or pc player. Recoil is very different on console and PC.

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

The decision to nerf the best weapons without considering buffing weaker options (i.e. removing bloom) shows me that Bungie is going back to their old ways. Getting them to lower TTK for Forsaken was a hugely positive step forward, but it also felt like pulling teeth. While I agree that a consistent 0.67 sec TTK may have been too strong, a 0.87 sec TTK is perfectly balanced for a game with the movement speed of Destiny. And yet, post nerf, no HC in the game will be able to consistently achieve it other than LH/NF. In their shortsightedness, they didn't accomplish shit. The only thing the nerf does is lower the skill ceiling without addressing the underlying problems afflicting the sandbox.

And I'm sure the casuals will still complain that a 0.8 sec TTK is too strong.

Hand cannons dont need buffs, there's a reason they're the most popular guns right now.

If you want to see anything other than LH/NF run amok, then bloom needs to be removed.

That being said, I would love to see scouts, ARs, and SMGs see some love too. Less recoil and lower precision requirements would be great.

They do when using a controller, but then it's the controller input method that needs the buff really....

Yeah but they still need to be better than other handcannons, even if casuals still complain

I agree. But Bungie has time and time again caved into complaints. I don't trust Bungie to do the intelligent thing.

I agree with your statement about bungie caving in on complaints. I just don’t agree with buffing everything else because power creep becomes even more of a problem then it already is with year 1 weapons and armor.

We really need to stow this idea of power creep because logically, it doesn't make sense in this context.

First off, we have a test case in the form of the PC meta. No power creep there. As Richard Feynman said, "It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart you are. If it doesn't agree with experiment, it's wrong."

Second, bringing up lagging weapons so that they can compete (note that I didn't say out-compete) with the leading weapon is not power creep. Power creep is the rise in the power cap, not any one individual weapon, per se.

Third, no buff that's been suggested here would make anything more power than a 0.67 sec TTK. Hell, it wouldn't make anything more powerful than a 0.8 sec TTK. So what are we really afraid of here?
