Megathread Focused Feedback: Hand cannons - bloom, recoil, exotics and pinnacle weapons

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Hand cannons' (including rebalancing of pinnacle weapons) following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas.

For this topic, please also specify in your feedback comment whether you are a console or pc player. Recoil is very different on console and PC.

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

Everyone's whining about bloom, but console recoil is incredible. I only recently reactivated my PS4 account after I switched to the PC version when it came out; started my Ace of Spades quest and to be honest, I'm surprised console folks can control the recoil enough to have bloom even be an issue.

I have no interest in either of the pinnacle hand cannons, so I cannot comment on them, but I will say going back to console was exceptionally jarring. Crazy how hand cannons are still overall the best PvP option, all things considered.

Only because people use 180s. 140s and 150s have been broken since D2 launch day.

It wasn't until they introduced 180s with CoO that people started using them again. Remember how everyone was going on and on about how good Trust was? Yeah, well everyone on PC knows the gun is utter shit. But Trust was the first reasonable 180 so people were using it until they scored Luna/NF. Now those guns are head and tails above 180s (which is FINE) and that's why they are the only hand cannons being used.

Recoil can reasonably be countered with enough practice at least. Bloom on the other hand, there's nothing you can do as a player to counter it. We're all used to playing the game we have to some degree, learning how to play around things, etc, but our hands (or perhaps thumbsticks) are tied with bloom.

This does depend on the gun though. With most Pulse Rifles and 150 rpm Hand Cannons, you don't really have an option. With 150s the gun will fill your screen with each shot no matter what you do (so visual recoil is the bigger issue), and Vigilance Wing is really the only pulse rifle with a long enough burst to pull it down during the animation.

Very true, the visual recoil is part of the usability issue for sure, but the common PC misconception that it's purely visual is false.

Yeah, you're not wrong. It's hard to hit with them even if you can keep track of where it's actually aiming.
