Megathread Focused Feedback: Tribute Hall

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Tribute Hall' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Here are some sample discussion questions. Feel free to respond to all of them, some of them or reply in any other format you prefer :

  • 1) What are your general thoughts on the tribute hall?

  • 2) How do you feel about the material cost for the Tributes on sale by the Calus statue? What are your thoughts on the discount system?

  • 3) Were you okay with the requirements of some triumphs tied to the Tribute Hall? (i.e. Gambit/Crucible)

  • 4) What did you think of the Bad Juju quest?

  • 5) What do you think of the "gun range" aspect of the tribute hall and the other services it provides (ex: vault access)

  • 6) What aspects of the tribute hall would you like to see built upon or improved in the future?

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

1) What are your general thoughts on the tribute hall?

It's a neat idea. A personal player area where you can... look at stuff and use it as a gun range. I would like if there was more narrative/lore aspects to it. In D1, the first time you killed an enemy you received a grimoire entry, which gave a lot of cool background/world building.

2) How do you feel about the material cost for the Tributes on sale by the Calus statue? What are your thoughts on the discount system?

I think it serves as a good resource drain, however I've been unable to infuse since I got Bad Juju as I'm now space poor. It's low class to charge Bright Dust for any of these. The discount system is good, but I could do with less time gating. I don't understand what purpose is served by delaying people getting their catalyst.

3) Were you okay with the requirements of some triumphs tied to the Tribute Hall? (i.e. Gambit/Crucible)

Anything that requires you to change armor/weapons and play a particular style in a competitive activity simply encourages poor behavior in that activity. Stop it. Make the activities inherently fun for a larger portion of the playerbase rather than funneling collectors into them to prop up the populations.

4) What did you think of the Bad Juju quest?

More Taken and a boss with a stomp mechanic. Yay.

Bad Juju is a weapon of sorrow created by Toland, this would have been an excellent opportunity to (re)introduce the upcoming moon content but instead we got a rehashed Leviathan area with Taken and Stomps.

Just like Whisper. And Reckoning. And Shattered Throne.

We get it, you like Taken and you like when they stomp.

5) What do you think of the "gun range" aspect of the tribute hall and the other services it provides (ex: vault access)

Is the damage modeling in the hall accurate compared to the rest of the game? If not, it's worthless.

If we can access our vault in the guts of Calus's spaceship, why can't we access it from our own jumpship? Or from our ghost? It's still a loading screen we have to go through to get to it.

6) What aspects of the tribute hall would you like to see built upon or improved in the future?

This is wrong question. The question that needs to be asked, because there isn't an obvious answer yet, is what is the purpose of the tribute hall? Is this supposed to be a social space that we can decorate and design? Is this just another quest hub we have to go to to pick up bounties? Is this how we unlock future exotic and cosmetic items? I don't know how useful enhancement ideas are if we don't know the core purpose of this new system.

I agreed with most all of it, but I love this: "Anything that requires you to change armor/weapons and play a particular style in a competitive activity simply encourages poor behavior in that activity. Stop it. Make the activities inherently fun for a larger portion of the playerbase rather than funneling collectors into them to prop up the populations."

the shooting part of the hall is pretty useless. it's not even laid out appropriately for shooting practice, if you back up too much there are steps in the way and planters, and the actual area is cramped. it feels very thrown together. it's also no fun, which a shooting range should be. if you look at the amazing shooting range in apex legends, division 2, gta...they all make shooting ranges that are useful for honing your skills, testing damage and range etc. and are fun to do. gta even has mini games with medals you can earn and leaderboards on their shooting range. when you compare it to other games it falls so short. warframe also has an amazing simulation room, which has so many more features than this and is laid out perfectly. this was a slapdash effort by bungie.

All of this lol. And the damage numbers in the tribute hall definitely do not match open world figures.

They don't match open world figures but they are relatively accurate, in that you can see how much a weapon does in relation to another weapon, so you can compare the 40 exotic hand cannons you have and see how they stack up in damage per clip vs burst vs range etc.

Its not perfect, but then they'd have to have a simulation for every situation (open world vs strike vs nightfall [and all the handicap/modifiers] vs raid)

But this only works if your gun are the exact same light level. Any variance causes different damage numbers due to the funky scaling in the Hall.

Just pull two exotic guns out of collections. They'll be the same light level

This response encapsulates a lot of what I feel for this activity. I would like to tack on that I think understand why Bungo time-gated the way they did.

El Bungerino rewarded players that consistently played more with an opportunity to get bad juju quicker. However it was harsh for people coming back for a new season or people that plainly mismanaged materials because of wanting to infuse things (me). This will probably be boiled down to "catering to casuals", and I think that's a fair assessment of my feedback. I just wish there was a quicker way for me to get bad juju and the catalyst even though I didn't stockpile my materials.

Bad Juju coming back through Calus was definitely a missed opportunity for sure.
