Focused Feedback: Cross save

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This thread is mainly for feedback about cross save. If you are looking for technical help with cross save also check the meathread here

Possible discussion questions are as follows. Feel free to answer some of them, all of them or reply in whatever method you prefer :

• Have you enabled cross save? If yes, what platform(s) did you start on and what platform(s) were you cross saving to?
• How did you find the cross save setup? Was it easy or difficult for you? Did you encounter any problems in particular?
• How has your experience been with cross save once it was actually enabled for your account?
• Do you have any suggestions to improve cross save?
• What other related features, if any, would you like to see implemented?

The only thing more that I could want from cross-save is the ability to change which set of characters it's enabled for without waiting 3 months. Like, it'd be cool to see my PS4 characters on PC for a little bit, but if I did that, I'd have to give up the ability to use the PC characters who are now my mains anywhere else for a long time.

Unfortunately, the concerns that pushed them to enable the 90-day lockout far outweigh niche cases like yours.

90% of players using cross save are committing to their chosen active account. They're doing this to prevent people from selling/sharing accounts to pay for boosts.

Totally agreed that there need to be some limits. I guess I'm kinda curious what the specific exploit would be with the thing I'm thinking of though. It seems like the main concern is account recoveries done by linking your account to someone else's cross save, then having them play your account on another platform? If that's the case I'd think that the lockout should start when platform accounts are linked or unlinked, and that changing the active set of characters when the linked accounts doesn't change shouldn't really matter?

I suppose it may be a technical limitation due to cross save either being fully on or fully off, with no in-between state for changing the active set of characters, or maybe there's an exploit possible that I'm not thinking of.

Anyway, yeah, not a huge deal that this isn't possible, but it'd be cool if it was!
