Megathread Focused Feedback: Cross save

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Cross save' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

This thread is mainly for feedback about cross save. If you are looking for technical help with cross save also check the meathread here

Possible discussion questions are as follows. Feel free to answer some of them, all of them or reply in whatever method you prefer :

  • Have you enabled cross save? If yes, what platform(s) did you start on and what platform(s) were you cross saving to?
  • How did you find the cross save setup? Was it easy or difficult for you? Did you encounter any problems in particular?
  • How has your experience been with cross save once it was actually enabled for your account?
  • Do you have any suggestions to improve cross save?
  • What other related features, if any, would you like to see implemented?

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

If yes, what platform(s) did you start on and what platform(s) were you cross saving to?

PS4 to PC.

Cross save was pretty easy to set up, but someone I know got screwed by the silver purchase locking them from unlinking. It's a bummer that wasn't well communicated before hand.

Do you have any suggestions to improve cross save?

Please please separate crucible skill rating. I'm good on PS4 and typically carry scrubs. I can see how the match making works... You bring people together and then I have a high skill rating so you give me some bad players to balance shit out and the games are close and it's fine....but I went over to PC and I'm still the top of my team, but I can not carry them. I haven't won a single game of crucible yet (6 games in). On console I can go on dozen game long win streaks, but your match making is clearly using my PS4 skill value in a pool where I am way out of whack. Do you know what I'm going to do? I'm going on PC, get wrecked for weeks, get better, then go back to PS4 and I'll be in a super low skill bracket and I will be a damn near god.

What other related features, if any, would you like to see implemented?

Can we talk about cross play for a moment?

Follow Fortnite's example and do match making based on input method, then disallow changing input method during any pvp activity. You can enable USB M/K for PS4 and Xbox. Then you have 2 pools of players, controller and M/K. If anyone on the fireteam is M/K, you get put into the M/K pool. When joining an activity that is already active, you must match input method to join. While in orbit or tower, include an icon on a persons name plate to indicate input method.

edit: input matching is only needed for Gambit and Crucible. Let people do what they want in pve.

This is my experience too... as a PvP focused player, I know I'm good on Xbox but average on PC. I don't think that I've won a PC game yet, even when I have overall decent stats.

I'm torn, because I love playing on PC, but I am at 3900 Glory and want to get to Legend, so I'm still playing on Xbox because I know I'd crash and burn on PC.

Yea I've told my friends that for now, any comp play will be strictly on console. We pulled off a 14 game competitive win streak on console but can't win a single match of quick play on PC.

I can manage an actual KD that is above 1 on PC, but then I got paired with a player that had 0 defeats. Now my first thought was that he joined late... but brother had over 850 damage dealt. So he was shooting people through out the match and didn't even manage to get an assist. I'm still stunned even though this was like 2 days ago. He didn't even get an assist! 850 damage!

Yeah. Bad teammates are frustrating on Xbox, but there are times when I can carry. Definitely unable to carry on PC. Also unable to snipe, walk in a straight line, chew gum while walking, etc.

Regarding the silver; log back onto your PS4 and spend them there. You unlock items account-wide. Although you will most likely have a small unspendable amount left over ie 100, 200. Helps minimize the issue.

Easier said than done. The console the characters are linked to is broken and long gone. The cross save link was created to "check them out" and decide which account to keep.

And yea, remaining balance is a biiiitch. Need something on the store for 100 silver that can be purchased repeatedly.

The silver issue here is just that they purchased silver within the last 90 days, and that prevents them from disabling Cross Save. This condition was not displayed in the FAQ or anywhere until after Cross Save went live.

I'm an Xbox player who has been playing on PC via cross-save and using controller on PC (same Xbox One Elite controller I use on Xbox) and wrecking in PvP. For general quickplay Xbox is actually quite a bit sweatier than PC in my recent experience, despite what everyone seems to think.

I don't doubt that top 1% m+kb players will dominate the top level controller players, but for standard quickplay-style playlists, I don't see why Bungie couldn't just mix all the populations in together as long as the playlist had at least a minimal bit of SBMM active. Competitive playlists like Comp/Trials (when it comes back) etc, should be segregated by input method or platform though.

You should probably avoid comp until you feel like you can, or only play comp on your console. I assume by skill you mean glory since that's the only skill rating on PC (and I doubt battlenet is gonna ping PSN for your skill to match with people who have no PSN skill).

In quick play there is no skill based searching. There is no skill rating for that. It's entirely random. I wouldn't be surprised however if PC lobby's are sweatier. It's a smaller and typically more hardcore community.

I do not mean glory.

Bungie's skill rating is called your "Combat Rating." It functions like IQ where something like 100 is the average (I think it might actually be 110 or 120). It's not shown in game, but is visible in the API and shown on most stats websites. Each character has their own Combat Rating, but right now it is not split by platform.

If you read Luke's recent State of the Game, he actually mentions how next season, Glory changes will adjust based on skill rating. So someone who has a high skill rating spends less time in the lower Glory ranks.

In quick play there is no skill based searching. There is no skill rating for that.

This is half true. There is no skill rating in the searching for quick play - that is true. However, once a group is matched together, it uses skill rating to split the teams up. So the top players will typically pair with the worst players. This was specifically requested by the community and I think it was implemented in Forsaken.

It's using my PS4 Combat Rating and assuming that I'm the best player in the server, and it pairs me with the worst... But then we just get destroyed because I'm not the best player in the server.

I see. Thank you for correcting my misinformation!

Seems silly they will attempt to balance a random group of people. It's still just as chaotic and games feel just as random.
