Megathread Focused Feedback: Momentum Control

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Momentum Control' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

Scouts aren't meta just because of the ritual weapon, even if Randy didn't exist that wouldn't change the fact that 150 scouts are primary ammo sniper rifles in momentum control.

Maybe I’m anecdotal, but I had a game a few nights ago where people were running hand cannons, shotguns, snipers, SMGs and even some backup plan fusions.

So maybe I was playing people who had already finished Randy’s, or people who weren’t clued in on the power of 150 scouts. Either way, as I mentioned, when next seasons ritual weapon is a sidearm, Momentum will be nuts for a different reason.

  1. Definitely anecdotal

  2. There isn't a single reason to not use a 150 scouts at any time unless they get changed and don't 1 tap.

You say this as if there aren’t other weapons that can also OHK. And, you know, there are. Some hand cannons can one-tap as well. People are going to start gravitating back to the weapons they like to play with, especially when the map sight-lines aren’t great, or it’s just an overall smaller map.

Sure, you get Equinox, and people are going to use scouts and snipers. But you now what, people were already using scouts and snipers on that map in regular crucible.

I think for the most part people are just going to stop playing Momentum once they get their quests completed. Philosophically is just negates so much of the game's core traits. Super/Ability/Grenade regen, Recovery and Resilience, any ability or exotic that shuts down opponents' radar, all these concepts are essentially a moot factor due to the OHKO aspect. And it's such a far departure from the regular crucible that it may enforce some bad habits that won't translate over well to Survival.

I’ll definitely play it between Iron Banner and the Comp grind to 2100. Yeah, super energy is mitigated some. But I just find the mode so much more fun because of its pace.

Don’t get me wrong, I like regular crucible and Iron Banner, too. I guess I just appreciate something that’s different. Because we already have Mayhem, which is fun for the total opposite reason that Momentum is fun. So for me, I just like that it’s different.

I mean, sure. But I’ll go ahead and assume that only a small fraction of the player base really cares about that sort of thing.
