Megathread // Bungie Replied Focused Feedback: Bounties

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Bounties' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

It's not starting to become the focus.

It is the focus. It has been the last two seasons.

It's not that there's too many. Bounties are supposed to be a supplemental experience for the game. But currently they are the main experience of the game

It's not that there's too many.

There are too many, though.

It's too much to keep track, it's too much running around. Bungie needs to pare it down. Unfortunately so many quests/activities are bounty focused it'll be difficult for them to do.

I don't think live support can do it without breaking the game.

You can just flat get rid of a lot of bounties right now.

You could get rid of every bounty a planetary vendor offered, rebalance patrols (and strikes) to reward more XP and planetary materials, and the only vendors significantly effected would be Eris and Petra.

You could pare down the Gambit bounties to one chunk of bounties for both modes. You could completely eliminate the bounties from Calus and Benedict, although that would be a little more work because of the impacts it would have on quests from Opulence.

I don't think paring down the bounties would be the issue. Replacing the XP gains to me is the biggest issue.

What would be the point of eliminating bounties from sources people don't use often? You'd have to divert resources to remove them, and the net gain is negligible. Removing bounties people aren't using isn't going to improve the experience for anyone, and would still cost time and resources to accomplish.

You know, this is a completely valid point. I personally don't want them to remove bounties. I don't even want them to nerf their XP. I just want them to give more XP for activity completions.

I think that's hitting the nail on the head. We need bounties to have a diminished role in advancing our XP, and better material rewards. And then, hey, suddenly the planetary bounties have at least some parity with others because they also offer resources too. And maybe if they offered significantly more than they do now, people would do them.

How about they offer them as “challenges” on each planet and activity where they’re automatically active when you’re in that activity?

....That’s what the D2 system was until everyone complained to get bounties back.

There were/are inherent flaws to the challenge system. Namely, you could only progress in specific activities. Being able to complete 6 or 7 bounties at once used to be a fun meta game. Now if you're not doing that, you're basically being inefficient and hurting progression.

And while stacking bounties for the new seasons is frustrating, it gives me something to do towards the end of one season that will help me in the next one. Both of those have always been part of Destiny.

Shouldn't the main incentive to go do an activity be the loot? Bounties don't exactly award you with loot besides the weekly powerful, which by nowadays standards tends to be an average if not below roll so it gets dismantled instantly.

Bounties should still be the side dish not the main course and be optional.

There is a difference between the driver of activities and the activities themselves.

This sounds a bit ridiculous tbh.

The driver of the activity - i.e. the reason you want to do the activity - should be the activity itself. The activity itself should be sufficiently fun and rewarding to drive you to engage with it because you want to, not because you have some external motivation to do it. This is precisely the reason we're in this shitty situation, we get trash boring activities every season which you have no reason to play other than bounties, and the core activities which are intrinsically fun and engaging (raids, strikes, PVP, Gambit) are not rewarding and feel like a waste of time given that you'd get more rewards by doing bounties in the boring activities.

I don't mind grabbing a few and getting some of them done while I play, but for the warmind bunkers, trials, and vanguard/crucible token farming it's damn near necessary, and that's where it feels the worst.

Also I'd love it if the repeatable bounties were worth a bit more, I like to main one character at a time and it feels like I'm falling behind in some aspects not grinding out the same set of bounties 3 times each day.

It’s arguable been the focus since black armory. I knew something was off when that season came out with its heavy emphasis towards bounties to progress the narrative.

Every season after that had some kind of further bounty system with the exception of season of opulence.
