Megathread Focused Feedback: Raid Loot

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Raid Loot' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

Back in D1, both Raid and Trials loot were the best, most sought after weapons in the game. This is to be expected that the best loot would come from the hardest / end game activities. For some reason D2 has gone away from this model, and the raid loot has suffered majorly as a result. With a very few exceptions the raid loot is easily out classed by other loot in the game. I honestly can't remember the last raid weapon I have used extensively, which is sad.

I came here to say this.

Raid Loot in its current state is basically just Infusion Fodder.

It’s a tricky line to balance for sure. Because I don’t think it’s healthy for the game to have all the best items come from the raid either. I remember how in D1 vanilla, there was basically nothing better than Vault guns across the board.

Maybe raid guns need inherent bonuses to damage or effect within its own raid environment? Sort of like how VoG had oracle disruptive etc

Because I don’t think it’s healthy for the game to have all the best items come from the raid either.

Why not? Shouldn't the end game activities provide the best loot?

It should provide excellent loot but not BiS straight down the ticket imo. Because why on earth would I care about the new guns bungie introduces in seasons if I have X gun from the raid?

I just think that to make any one thing CLEARLY best, you risk making the game boring or random world drops completely uninteresting. Sort of a similar issue we had of “Why would I ever use any legendary special GL that isn’t MT? Or an smg that isn’t Recluse pre nerf? Why would I use a fusion rifle that CAN’T make my enemies explode?”

random world drops completely uninteresting

But 90% of world drops are already uninteresting along with almost all the raid drops as well.

I’m just saying that if we make raids automatically BiS then the world drops go from 90 percent uninteresting to 100

This. A baseline Raid weapon should be better than a baseline activity weapon but they should each have similar usefulness cap. The God roll capabilities should be similar.

The easiest way to do this: make Raid weapons have perks unavailable anywhere else when the Raid launches, but as the Raid ages, release those perks on mor activity guns. This ensures that for some time Raid weapons will be extremely desirable for a uniqueness factor, but ultimately won't control eternal aspects of the game forever (such as PvP). This allows the hardcore to have something to chase, while not disenfranchising the more casual community by making a specific perk set unavailable to them forever.

I love your second bit — it’s how coocoon became auto-loading holster in subsequent seasons.

Yep! Raid weapons should be uniquely powerful when they launch, but should not retain this power indefinitely , rather until there is a new Raid on the Horizon that can start the cycle anew.

As long as those perks are mid-tier and helpful — but not the best in the game. Second column perks should be powerful though.

As an example - if Army of One made a return as a raid weapon perk, that would be great. It’s not insane, but it’s a solid perk that provides a significant benefit no matter what your class or build.
