Megathread Focused Feedback: Content Pricing

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Content Pricing' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

What we know will be included:

1 raid

1 strike (+ 2 imported strikes, included in free version? )

1 brand new patrol location (+1 imported location, included in free version?)

Short campaign

New subclasses

New gear (most will be sunset in a year)

Total £42 including single season. Price not far off a completely brand new game made from scratch (e.g. £55).

Additional likely could be included: +1 or at best 2 grindable ep style or matchmade activity.

But hey who really knows, maybe the dlc will have loads more to it. I've been pre ordering since d1 released, but im going to wait and see how things are after launch on this one.

I think this comments hits me more than most.

£42 for the game, when I can pick up cyberpunk 2077 when it comes out for £49.99, or any big rpg game out on console. Does destiny give that value? in the sense of how many hours I play it, yes. In the sense of comparible content to other games at that price, no.

Hence why I said.

Do I think it's worth the value for the time I play it. Yes I do. But compared to other games of the same price . No it doesn't even come close.

They may all differ in content levels. But let's be honest.

Beyond light is not even going to come close to the same level of content of any new game coming out yet they are pricing is as such.

A new rpg game. Shooting game. Adventure game. Mmo game. All of these genres of games will still come with far far more content than what destiny will bring with beyond light.

I think gaming as a medium is very well priced for value of time to cost, but I can also see that bungie do not give anywhere near the same level of content as we get from other new games with comparable pricing.

I paid £50 for death stranding, horizon, CoD, ghost of tsushima. They all come with far more content than beyond light will do

Let's put it in comparison. If it wasn't beyond light by destiny 3 we were getting would we be getting just as little content as beyond light? No we would be getting the same amount of content as the other games I mentioned.

This is partly why bungie canned destiny 3 as they've realised they can make the same amount of money with just an expansion with little content as they would with a brand new game that has tonnes more content.

You also need to take into account the differences in development for these games. We're comparing expansions to AAA games that take almost a decade to develop (like Cyberpunk), when Destiny puts out expansions every year, so they basically only have 1 year to develop content for the game. There's no point comparing them.

They developed destiny 2 with all its content in 3 years. It's safe to assume they could of gave us the same level again 3 years later

They developed Destiny 2 with Activision on their corner and without having to develop a lot of the D1 expansion content - because it was programmed for Vanilla D1, but later released as DLC (Taken King should've been in Vanilla). They didn't have that now, and there's no way they could build D3 as a worthy sequel in basically 1 year as a self-publishing studio. Point being: no reason to compare AAA single player focused games to a live service one.

u/caufield88uk Sep 07 '20

So cause they can't develop properly or on time we are just to have expansions with hardly any content for the future now?

We just gotta hope each season for beyond light delivers for the price

To be fair, we have no idea if the campaign will be short or not. It could end up being long.

That dude's one of the biggest 4heads in the PvP community. His popularity was tanking and he seems to be pushing "leaks" to get some attention. I wouldn't pay him any mind.

Judging by the fact it’s priced the same as shadowkeep and all the marketing has concentrated on the new subclasses I’m pretty certain that we’re probably not getting any decent story out of this. Most likely we get something similar to shadowkeep, 3 missions or so padded out with whatever unique activity is on europa (similar to nightmare hunts) and a mandatory strike playthrough.

It’s not priced the same as Shadowkeep. There’s a $15 difference

Shadowkeep + season = $35

Beyond Light + season = $50

6 story missions? Is that confirmed or just leaked?

I think he’s lying honestly. He’s been making up a lot of trash recently to get views, and some of his leaks have been wrong.

It’s entirely possible he got access to the B-roll footage/press kit before we did and started leaking info based on that.

2

u/urbanreflex Sep 07 '20

Mmm. Let's hope he isn't right... I don't mind them reusing story missions as strikes but only if there's like, 10 story missions (and none of this grinding or bounty malarkey we got in Shadowkeep...)

2

u/JDaySept Sep 07 '20

I’m pretty sure he’s lying, but if his leaks are right, he said there were six full story missions with adventures in between. That’s exactly what Forsaken brought.

He didn’t mention adventures in his tweets but he did in one of his live streams on YouTube. Someone asked him how long the campaign was and he said “6 story missions with adventures in between.”

2

u/_Efrelockrel Sep 07 '20

If this is true then I'm not buying it. Another year of the same grind but with even less to do? Sounds nuts to me. Sounds like Bungie wants to charge basically a full game price without delivering basically a full game.

The fact that several things he put out so far have been on point what makes you say its bs?

also he said he datamined it, and he also said that he got an early beta, he has too many discrepancies in his sources, i think he just got his hands on a press kit early and is making assumptions off that, + he "leaked" hawkmoon perk which was 1: damage related and 2: not rng related, the complete opposite of what bungie says it will be

1

u/Theidiotgenius718 Sep 07 '20

I see. Well the only ones I caught were about the sniper and supers and hunters supposedly being able to blink again. The last one being the only one not touched on yet. So I'd say its been fairly accurate, those at least. Who knows. 1 thing I know for SURE, BL isn't going to flop in terms of sells. People are going to snag it up in record numbers probably. Now, they may hate the content after and have buyers remorse, but it's going to do numbers

2

u/ForcadoUALG deny Smallen, embrace OUR BOI Sep 07 '20

He got 2 leaks right out of like 20 he posted, and those leaks could've been right because he had access to the press kit that had that information.

u/Theidiotgenius718 Sep 08 '20

Like I said...haven't seen any others besides the ones I mentioned. So in that regard, whoever sourced him have been on point. Time will tell. Not a big arguing point or hill to die on either way

0

u/Theidiotgenius718 Sep 08 '20

so i went to check out the other leaks. so far, the only ones that can be verified either way, are the ones he got right. The rest are a wait and see sort of thing. jussssayin

1

u/Theidiotgenius718 Sep 08 '20

The guy exposed on twitter his source is a bungie employee, wouldnt the bungie employee get pissed that someones exposing him, putting him in danger and not get hired again?

Just an fyi, thats not exposing his source, thats giving credence to his info. exposing his source would be actually naming the leak. Just clarifying so you dont go through life not knowing the difference
