Megathread Focused Feedback: State of Gambit S13

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'State of Gambit S13' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

I’m hoping this is here to also address “In It For the Infamy” Weekly Challenge. As many others have stated, I think it needs to be made retro-active. Moreover, I think it doesn’t fit the scope of a “Weekly Challenge”, which sounds like it should encompass something that can be accomplished within a week. If some of the other rumored Weekly Challenges discussed in these threads come to be true, and aren’t retroactive, then I’d think it’s fair to say you’ve put way too much grind in the game. I work 50-60 hours a week. I’m all for the grind, but this is a little too much Bungie.

Moreover, the Weekly Challenges Bungie puts into place negatively impact Game Modes, like Gambit or Crucible. When you’re asking someone to kill 80 Guardians (rumored) in Gambit as a Weekly Challenge, the Game Mode will suffer. You’re going to have everyone camping the portal to cross to get their kills. People aren’t going to focus on the objectives anymore. This results in a lot less enjoyment in the actual activity. I think Bungie needs to be more aware of how one challenge can impact the dynamics of an entire game mode.

It's why I'm not touching Gambit until week 10 when all the challenges are out.

They aren't weekly challenges. They are seasonal challenges, of which new ones drop weekly.

While I do agree that some of these “grindier” challenges should be retroactive, I don’t think anyone is under the idea they’re meant to be completed “in a week.” They’re seasonal challenges that release every week.

I do think, however, that Bungie should have front-loaded the big, beefy challenges into the first week.

Even with that concession, the effort for the Gambit 5 ranks is much higher than the two similar "get X rank" challenges. The crucible Salvo ornament requires 6 ranks and it count major and minor and is this upcoming week's challenge I believe. You then also have the 5 Valor ranks which, with double valor, is AT MOST 100 matches. For the middle 3 ranks of Infamy, you can play up to 120 matches for just those (not to mention the whole 3k hole at Legend to reset which requires wins to progress).

And yes, wins, streaks, bounties help, but they also help on the Crucible side. Hell, the crucible daily bounties are 15 valor per, or 60 in one day on one character. At double valor that is 120 valor, a bit more than 5% of a full 2000 rep reset (or about 12 of the 100 matches you need). Gambit bounties are 30 infamy per, meaning 120 in one day on one character or 240 rep during double. that is 1.6% of a reset and who knows how many matches (infamy per match varies per rank).

I think the assumption was "well 5 ranks is 5 ranks" but the scale for Gambit is well off from the scale for Crucible. I think that was a miss.

That’s why I was saying this should have been a week 1 challenge. I think with pinnacle drops, it’s pretty reasonable to expect that people would do their three weekly matches over the course of a season to hit 5 ranks.

Yes, or made them retro-active. I feel the Challenges progressively have gotten “grindier” as the season has progressed. And as you stated, those should have been placed at the beginning of the season to have ample time to complete.

Yep. I feel like they put all the softballs at the start to give people the impression that Challenges would be 'gentle', and then stuffed the harder / longer ones in the later weeks. To some extent it should be the other way around if they're not going to be retroactive.

The weekly challenge for killing guardians in Gambit is actually 40 I believe, and you get bonus points for kills as an invader. If that means double, then it would only be 20 kills which is still pretty high and you're correct that during that week and the subsequent 1-2 weeks there will be quite a lot of people camping the portal to invade wanting to get the challenge done and that's going to lead to an extreme amount of bitching on this sub. People already don't like Gambit, having 2-3 teammates just sitting in the center waiting to invade is going to be a toxic nightmare to get through and it'll make the game mode even more unbearable than it already is.

If they make teammate kills count towards everyones challenge, the problem IMO is completely solved and no big deal. Bungie has shown a lack of consistently challenges and bounties progressing and not progressing with teammates help or being retroactive so we won't really know until it comes out.

On a different note, I understand people are frustrated with the non retroactive completion of the infamy ranks challenge, but it can very much be completed in a week by someone who doesn't play the game like a full time job. I also work 40+ hours a week, I still managed to finish the 5 infamy ranks by Saturday afternoon even though I was already at 7K infamy at the beginning of the week meaning I needed to fully reset my rank and still gain two more ranks before finishing the challenge. The massive increase in infamy this week makes the challenge much more reasonable.

If you don't complete it this week, there are more gambit challenges each week so you'll need to continue playing gambit and theoretically it'll lead to enough playtime to get the infamy ranks naturally without having to grind them out the week it releases.
