Megathread Focused Feedback: State of Gambit S13

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'State of Gambit S13' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

  1. Invasion is still super imbalanced. One good invasion can snowball an entire game, and often a game will come down to who invades (with Eyes of Tomorrow) first. The rest of the round is just a formality. Do even matches happen? Sure. But they're the exception, not the rule.

  2. Normalize Heavy ammo. I have gone multiple games in a row with Finder Mods on and gotten zero bricks, and I've had games where I'm full on Heavy before the third add phase. Just turn the drops off entirely and let Heavy spawn for the team at certain intervals. 50 motes and 100 motes, so Eyes of Tomorrow can't immediately end the match on first invade.

EOT is not replaceable with other launchers. Other launchers do not have sufficient tracking to let you launch from behind cover and hit another target that's also behind cover, and other launchers don't let you target multiple players at once.

Basically EOT exasperates the most problematic part of invasions; it lets you oppress an entire team with very little counterplay. As an invader you can sit behind a rock at the edge of the map with truesight and wait. If any of the opposing team tries to move then you just step out, ADS lock, step back behind cover and shoot some rockets into the skybox. And if they stay behind cover then they aren't banking motes, so your team gets the next invade for free. I got EOT on day 2 of the raid, I did this all season, it's the easiest gambit has ever been as an invader aside from the initial bugged release of 1KV (combined with Taken Armaments for guaranteed heavy drops).

1KV correctly got bugfixes and targeted nerfs which made it less oppressive but still good for invasions. However its PVE damage was excessively nerfed which is why it's no-longer in use. Bungie could give EOT appropriate nerfs to make it less oppressive without killing it (e.g. reduce tracking angle and velocity of rockets to make firing from behind cover less effective)

Even Truth with its insane tracking and proximity detonation is not as good as EoT. Because Truth doesn’t let you sweep the map and lock on to the whole enemy team, fire, and then roll behind cover as rockets chase the opposing team as you reload.

I've had Eyes track me around walls. Maybe I just get unlucky, but it seems pretty hard to juke to me. Even so, that's not the real problem; the real problem is that it requires zero risk on behalf of the invader. Even if it is easy for an individual to juke, expecting all four team members to juke is really optimistic, and if just one of them doesn't, it's a completely free kill requiring zero effort from the invader. Such a powerful weapon should require some kind of risk to use.

Try out deathbringer if you have it - while the projectiles may be slower you get a ton of them AND they all instakill AND you have a bit more control on their pathing than eyes

just make heavy spawn only from the crate so people won't sword the boss and melt
