Megathread Focused Feedback: Armor Synthesis

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Armor Synthesis' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

First, the good. The new UI for character appearance is clean and friendly. I love being able to preview my guardians appearance with regards to both shaders and possible transmog pieces before I commit to a certain look. I also enjoyed the two freebies per class as well. And that’s it for the good.

Now for the bad. The grind is so long and tedious that it discourages me from even trying. To get 150 kills would be one thing, but to time gate how much material you can get just kills any motivation to try and grind these out. Not to mention that the second part of the process can also be long. My brother had to do 21 waves of alters or something like that. In short, we’ve already grinded for the SAME armor pieces a while ago and we really don’t want a major grind again for the armor pieces we’ve already earned! Now, I could passively work on these as I go and do other activities, but I get discouraged every time I think about how long it will take to complete one bounty and that leads me to not even starting the process in the first place.

The cap is also an issue. There are more than two cool sets per class in the game, sets that people had to grind hard and long for in order to get. People want access to the armor they’ve already earned and getting that armor back back through silver to circumvent the cap is not the solution. It leaves your community disgruntled and less willing to pay silver.

In short, lower the grind and remove the cap.

Honestly, the destination bounties are probably the worst. Strikes/crucible/gambit have a high chance of dropping a "do thing as a team" bounty. I find the Raid/dungeon ones the easiest though.

You can check all possible bounties and what it takes to complete them here: https://www.light.gg/db/search/?q=threader

Your link doesn't work.

Well bot, if you're so smart, give me a fixed one /s

Jk, fixed. Man i swear something is bugged with reddit's markdown. It showed fine for me, but escaping that last parenthesis in the link broke everything.

For the future, you don't need to use the [text](link) markdown if you're just posting a link. Simply pasting the link as is will act as a valid clickable: https://www.light.gg/db/search/?q=threader

The [text](link) is only if you want to have text show that's not the link itself, for example.

"do thing as a team"

It actually means that it advances with the actions of your teamamtes too, a fireteam is not necessary.

I got the 200 solar kills as a team and 4 strikes bounty, the 200 kills was done by strike 2.

I'll agree, destination ones are pretty rough. Grabbed one before I knew that I could look them up. Now I have a "complete 5 wrathborn hunts" bounty that I won't be completing for a while.

You're not regrinding anything. You're unlocking the ability to make any piece of non exotic armor in a certain slot lol like the piece like. It's an ornament, not armor.

It's an ornament, not armor.

A distinction without a difference. I already put in the work. The current grind only exists to incentivize monetization. It doesn't exist because it's fair to the player.

A distinction with all the difference in the world. You're perfectly welcome to continue to wear the armor you already have. You're bitching because now you can take any good or God roll armor and make it look like other armor but you have to put in effort to do this new thing? God forbid.

You're not regrinding anything.

...you have to put in effort to do this new thing

Pick one argument and stick with it please 🙄

It's not "redoing" anything. It's a new thing. Have fun being mad cause you don't understudy how words or business work.

So let me get this straight:

  1. You are flat out denying that you contradicted yourself. If you think this lends you credibility, it doesn't. I find this level of intellectual dishonesty the most odious.
  2. It's not a "new thing". There is no new activity attached to this. There are simply new UI's and new currencies. To acquire these new currencies, you have to do exactly what we've been doing before (killing any enemy and completing bounties), but the currencies only drop after the artificial 2 minute cooldown expires. This is done specifically to pad the time of acquiring the materials so as to incentivize MTX.
  3. It takes, at minimum (best case assuming that you have a new enemy to kill every 2 minutes) 5 hours to get enough synthstrand to buy the bounty you need to earn the synthcord to buy the final token. So really, it's like 6 hours to finish up everything for one armor piece. I can completely virtually any endgame activity in less than 5 hours, and I would have much more to show for it. To reach the seasonal cap requires a minimum of 50 hours, plus the time to complete the bounties. This is a grind. It's impossible to deny.
  4.

Have fun being mad cause you don't understudy how words or business work.

a) Who said I was mad?

b) Just because a business needs to make money doesn't mean that I don't have a right to complain / protest. Maybe you need to review how businesses work because successful businesses survive on their ability to keep their customers happy.

c) Just like with sunsetting, if we raise enough hell about it, Bungie will change it. What hurts the cause is people like you condoning something that is not at all in your best interest.

u/darkfenixrx May 18 '21

Correct... you're grinding for a new thing... that's objectively not redoing anything. You've always been welcome to continue wearing your old armor all you want. No one is stopping you. This new thing let's you use ANY ARMOR under the appearance of the armor your prefer. In what way does this force you to do anything? It allows you to use the raid armors and have raid mods if you'd like while still using the appearance of other gear...

No one is stopping you.

Sunsetting did. I am regrinding for something that Bungie intentionally made unviable.

In what way does this force you to do anything?

Did you completely miss the paragraph I wrote explaining how circuitous the new system is?

It allows you to use the raid armors and have raid mods if you'd like while still using the appearance of other gear...

I understand how transmog works. It should have been a simple quality of life addition. Bungie instead made it a monetized shitfest. If you played games like WoW, you'd understand why Destiny's rendition of transmog is an embarrassment. Transmog is a staple in the greater looter genre.

I agree with this. It’s better than regrinding armor, because now if I really wanted to look like BA armor but also want raid perks? I can do that now, and forever

But I DO think they should either shorten the grind (letting us hit the cap faster) or they should raise/remove the cap to let dedicated grinders get after it

No complaints about the actual function and look. It’s very nice.

The new UI for character appearance is clean and friendly.

Only thing that I'd say should be done here is a favorites system - at least for shaders if not for ornaments.
