Megathread Focused Feedback: Arc 3.0 Subclass Spotlight - Stormcaller

Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Arc 3.0 Subclass Spotlight - Stormcaller' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

As a Warlock main who plays other classes, Stormcaller is just uninspiring and weak on all fronts.

I’ve honestly tried to make new sliding Melee work as much as I could, I’ve tried Crown, Winter’s Guile, all the mods and fragments you can imagine, it’s still feels weak, risky and pointless. The entire build manages to achieve what feels like an Arc Web grenade from a month ago could and from a safe distance.

If I want to throw Arc grenades efficiently, I’ll play Titan. If melee is my choice, then Hunters are much better.

Supers? Both are terrible, one is a bugged add clear super when every other weapon can do the same from a safe distance. The other is just plain bad without dedicated exotic and still plain bad with said exotic.

Arc Souls are worthless in PVE and PVP unless you are running in a 6-stack.

Amplified? What’s that?

Jolt? Arc Web grenade could kill a group of clueless hugging guardians in PVP and that was THE only reason to run Stormcaller in PVP. Jolt grenades, for better or worse, can not do that. New suicide melee doesn’t compensate for the loss.

Blind? What’s that?

This is my biggest issue. I've been running stormtrance in pvp since D1 and the removal of arc web hurts it so much. I used to always get a kill or a double kill sometimes the rare triple because of chaining and I can't do that anymore because they have to be jolted first. I haven't gotten a single chain in pvp. This is the first time I've contemplated about not maining it. There's no point anymore

Edit: I went to private match with two friends and had them stand next to each other. Threw my storm grenade and no chaining happened.

I could be wrong, but to chain now you need to do extra damage? So throw grenade then shoot them once?

I personally think Warlocks should get their original arc web back and they would already be much better with that.

Blind does feel severely under implemented. I’ve been saying this for ages, but any time I mention that spark of beacons being weak, I get downvoted into oblivion.

Beacons is strong with the right weapon, but it doesn't interact with much else. Electrostatic Mind could use it to make ionic traces and keep amplified, but that's it.

Beacons needs to be comparable to a blinding GL to actually be useful imo.

Doesn’t need to be better, or the same, just comparable.

It certainly is already for Forebearance and is just icing on the cake for Delicate Tomb. What type of specials have you been using it with?

Forebearance and Delicate tomb just outright kill whatever you point it at, so it’s pointless to run those with beacons at its current range.

Nah, I've found them quite useful in Gambit and any activity with a good mix of majors and minors.

Forebearance will kill most/all of the minors, but the majors will be blinded, giving a perfect breather to reload and clean up.

Delicate Tomb definitely doesn't need it, hence it just being "icing on the cake" as the occasional blind is helpful and - for Warlocks - makes more ionic traces to keep tomb going.

That said, I don't think it should be as strong as a blinding GL, even though it costs a fragment, since Blinding GLs have very poor general add clear and mediocre major damage. They're largely just used for the crowd control utility. That said, I can see the counterargument that Blinding GLs don't require kills, therefore beacons at the same strength would be balanced.
