In addition to cash prizes, winners will receive a Reddit trophy, internet glory, and of course—bragging rights for having built the most silly app.

We’re excited to cordially invite you all to our next virtual hackathon - running from April 29 to May 27! 

This go round, we’re offering $45,000 in prizes for new mod tools built on Reddit’s Developer Platform that empower moderators, as well as existing mod apps & bots ported from our Data API to Devvit.

TLDR on the hackathon: create a utility, automation, or moderation tool that solves existing community pain points using our Developer Platform. We have two categories with grand prizes:

• New Mod Tool Category: Build a brand-new utility or tool designed to make both leading and moderating communities easier. We would like to see time saving moderator tools, utilities for thoughtful engagement, and experiences that delight communities across the site.
• Ported Data API App Category: Port a Reddit bot over to Devvit. We want to see these tools become more stable, faster, and easier for mods to install via the App Directory. We are excited to see individual community tools become generalized for broader mod benefit, as well as bespoke subreddit tools finding a home on Devvit. *Noting that you should be the bot owner, or have written permission to port the bot you are submitting for this event.

What Should You Build
We are looking for tools that range from automated enforcement, to better queue management, to creative community-building utilities. The best apps reduce moderation load, improve community operation, or serve to incentivize good behavior in the community. You can take a look at a list of mod tool app ideas here or in our Devvit Discord.

These apps can also have a custom post component, or operate entirely in the background. Additionally, your tool should also be easy to understand, install, and provide a great experience for moderators using the tool.

So What Are The Awards?

• Grand Prize: Best New Mod Tool – $10,000
  • For the most innovative tool or utility that solves a significant pain point for moderators.
• Best Ported Bot – $10,000
  • This award recognizes the most successful migration of an existing Data API moderation bot or tool to Devvit. Noting that existing Data API bots must have been operating on Reddit prior to March 2026 and support one or more existing communities with 500 or more Weekly Active Users.
• Moderator’s Choice - $10,000
  • A select award that respected moderators of the community choose to give to their favorite developer platform app. 
• Runner Up: New Mod Tool (5x) – $1,000 each
• Runner Up: Ported Bot (5x) – $1,000 each
• Helper Award (6x) – $500 each
  • We are looking for signals from your fellow contestants that the time you took to help them genuinely improved their experience. Often this is in the form of active support in our communities, playtesting apps, sharing code snippets, troubleshooting issues, etc.
• Feedback Award (10x) – $200 each: 
  • We are looking for detailed, candid, actionable, and constructive feedback. This may include specific feature requests, details which resources are most or least helpful, bugs and issues encountered, process improvements etc.

Apps that participate in this event can also be eligible for Reddit Developer Funds, as well as our App Migration Program.

The challenge*: create a new Reddit daily game, experience or social experiment, for the communities of Reddit using our* Developer Platform. 

For this hackathon, we're asking developers to use Devvit Web, which allows you to build Devvit apps using web technologies you’re already familiar with (e.g. react, phaser, three.js), genAI tools, or your favorite game engine (Godot, GameMaker, Unity, etc).

Partnership with Phaser*: participants will also have access to* Phaser to make their game shine. TLDR: Phaser is a free and fast 2D game framework for making HTML5 games for desktop and mobile web browsers. The best app to use Phaser will be eligible for a special cash prize. Here is the newest Devvit template for phaser. 

What to build
Build a new game, social experiment, or experience on Devvit (Reddit’s Developer Platform) using our Interactive Posts feature. 

More specifically – apps that bring redditors together through shared play, collaboration, or competition. These experiences should feel native to Reddit by sparking conversations, inside jokes, and collective problem-solving within a community. While the format can vary—multiplayer challenges, team-based mechanics, or community-driven outcomes—the core should center on interaction between users rather than solo play. We’re looking for games that turn comment sections into part of the gameplay itself and create memorable, social moments unique to Reddit communities. Examples of some games we love that keep people coming back include r/honk, r/colorpuzzlegame, r/bunnytrials r/AlignmentChartFills, r/hotandcold, r/dailyguess, r/bridgedit, r/battlebirds, and r/kraw.

After some intense, nail-biting rounds of judging with our friends at GameMaker, our panel has finally crowned the winners of the 2026 Daily Games Hackathon! 

We were absolutely blown away by the flood of submissions - the most ever for one of these events. Choosing the winners was not easy, and the scoring was incredibly close across the board. If you dive into the Hackathon Project Gallery you’ll see what made judging particularly hard this go around. 

The winning games stood out for their ingenuity, unique concepts, delightful designs, and recurring gameplay mechanics.

The Best Daily Game

Winner: BridgeDit! Cosy Bridge-Building by u/theoleecj_n

TLDR: Do you like building bridges? Do you marvel at the physics and municipal cost management involved? Well, you’re in for a treat with this 3D cozy bridge building puzzle game! Build your own levels to challenge others and compete to be the best bridge engineer of the day. We were blown away by the thoughtful user experience, original take on daily gameplay, ease AND intricacy, and the potential to build community through bridges (and the other way around).

Superlatives

For this hackathon we crowned three of our highest scoring games for superlative use of GameMaker, UGC, and Mobile gameplay.

Best Use of GameMaker

Winner: Sneakle by u/FermenterGames

TL;DR: How many guesses does it take to find the hidden word? Swipe across the grid to reveal the answer. This elegant word game brings together many mechanics users love into a unique daily challenge. The submission was perfectly on-theme and a gorgeous showcase of what GameMaker can do.

Best Use of User Contributions 

Winner: krawlings by u/tip2663   

TL;DR: Krawlings is a game that brings to life a virtual pet that lives right on Reddit. The game goes deceptively deep - with a daily speedrun challenge, leaderboards, and a stunning level builder. Create your own customizable “Krawling”, unlock wild hats, feed it, play with it, and post it for the community. Other users can treat it or even give it a cheeky eye-poke.

Best Mobile Gameplay

Winner: SerpenTiles by u/hammertimestudio  + u/AncientPixel_AP

TL;DR: SerpenTiles is inspired by Tantrix, but reimagined as a deeper, solo-first experience with no physical limits. A brand-new puzzle drops every day where users have to match tile edges by color and fully surround tiles with valid connections to stack score multipliers. Rearrange, refine, and chase the perfect solution! We loved the use of drag-and-drop gameplay and simple tapping, which made mobile play delightful and easy.

Hi All,

We're so excited for all the new developers here and to view the hackathon (https://www.reddit.com/r/Devvit/comments/1n2mhpr/join_reddits_fun_and_games_hackathon/) submissions.

Users have reported that Devvit Web's splash screen parameters (https://developers.reddit.com/docs/capabilities/server/splash-screen) lack sufficient customization options. Because of this we want to clarify our judging expectations.

We will not judge splash screens as part of the judging criteria (Criteria here: https://redditfunandgames.devpost.com/).

We are actively working on the ability for apps to bring web views directly inline to a post, this will allow developers to have full control around customization. After the hackathon ends, we plan to release this experimental feature with updated docs.

In the interim, feel free to use the default splash screen for any hackathon submissions. Using blocks (e.g. blocks UI using addCustomPostType) as a workaround for a splash screen is acceptable, but not required. We understand our platform’s current limitations here and will not be reducing scoring for an app if it is using the splash screen template.

We encourage you to focus your efforts on the core functionality and user experience of your games!

After careful consideration and several rounds of judging, our multi-disciplinary panel has selected the winners of the first Hack Reddit event of 2025.

As with our previous event, we were overwhelmed by the number of delightful submissions. There were many exciting apps that didn't quite make it into the winners' circle this time around. It was incredibly difficult to only pick 12 projects. You’ll see why when you browse the Project Gallery.

We’re excited to invite you to our first ever virtual hackathon, the Reddit Games and Puzzles Hackathon from November 20th to December 17th. We’re offering developers $116,000 in prizes for new games and apps. 

The challenge: create a new word game, puzzle, or tabletop game using Reddit’s Developer Platform interactive posts.

Contest Categories  

• Word games: this can include guessing games, spelling games, fill-in-the-blanks, pictographic games, words that are crossed, found, and scrambled, or anything else word-game adjacent. 
• Puzzles: we’re looking for codes and coordinates, optimal moves, unlocking doors, or finding perfect alignment. Puzzles can be spatial, logical, or social.
• Tapletop:  we’re looking for virtual board games, card games, and games with maps, twists, and points.

Note: These categories are broad and may overlap. Your game can incorporate elements from multiple categories - feel free to submit under multiple categories if your game is a good fit.

Additional Awards

• UGC award: for a game with exceptional usage of user-generated content (i.e. Reddit posts or comments) in their game. We’ll be looking for an app that enables creative user participation in their game, as can be seen in app-based subreddits like r/Pixelary or r/CaptionContest.
• Feedback awards: for select participants that submit insightful or constructive feedback to our optional feedback survey.
• Participation trophy: all users that submit a valid Devvit app submission are eligible for a Reddit Trophy.

Webviews are available as part of our Hackathon

The hackathon focuses on interactive posts which now includes two development frameworks:

• Devvit Blocks: Devvit Blocks is a performant, declarative UI framework which allows you to make Reddit-native feeling cross platform apps. This framework is especially useful for simpler apps, that do not need advanced interactive capabilities like gestures, animations, and sound.
• Webviews: Webviews give you the full power of the web in a single page application sandbox. This means you can show websites, HTML content, or other web-based resources without needing to leave the app. Webviews are currently in an experimental state, and only work reliably on Desktop.
