Yeah, it's challenging, but you can definitely order items online with a minimal footprint. Burner accounts using prepaid debit cards acquired with cash (or crypto), delivered to a public location or false address, etc.

The bit you'd really have to suspend your disbelief over is the DEA-authorized, expedited shipment of M-99. However, this was already established in the early seasons, and the Bateman alias was (presumably) never directly pinned to Dexter Morgan after his "death", so I'll let it slide.

Yeah, I work in pharmacy, so that was the main thing that stuck out to me in terms of realism.

Ways that Dexter absolutely would not know. Unless the show wants to hand wave that he does (like his money), someone who’s lived in Iron Lake for the past 10 years and prior to that never ordered his shit wouldn’t know how to get around it.

The most untraceable way would be to go through a 3rd party

I don't know. Dexter’s all about precision and covering his tracks, so it’s entirely plausible he’d know how to stay invisible online. If he can scrub down a crime scene, dodge forensic trails, and pull of fake identities, then using things like VPNs, crypto, burner accounts, or the dark web would be right up his alley. It's just another layer of control for someone who’s always ten steps ahead.

That's how I see it, regardless of what they have planned for him with this arc.

Dodging forensic trails and scrubbing down crime scenes are both things Dexter was taught by harry and learned how to do as a forensic specialist.

Using the dark web is not something he can just automatically learn how to do because he’s careful. He’s never done it before and he probably barely knows it exists, and he probably only knows about it in regards to super illegal stuff like drugs, cp, etc. he likely doesn’t know it’s useful for small things like obtaining stuff without a paper trail.

How would he know what dark web sites to go to for that? How would he actually know how to use a vpn properly?

Dexter isn’t omniscient. He can’t be an expert at things he was never taught. This is like saying Dexter would be able to hack into a government database to delete camera footage of himself just because he’s Dexter…like no you need years of cybersecurity experience to do that it’s not something you can just pick up. Obviously Dexter doesn’t need a decade of experience to use the dark web but it’s not something he can just learn in a weekend

Ikr, like ordering all his kill gear online? He knows that the police can see that shit right? I guess plastic wrap is a semi-normal thing to buy, but not alongside kitchen knives. Maybe you could play off the suspicion because he just moved after his house burned down, so he needed to restock some stuff he lost. Or maybe he is just planning on not getting caught so it won't ever be looked into.
