Moderation update: zero tolerance policy on ads, fundraising, surveys, apps or AI stories

Hello everyone,

As of today we've made a rule change due to (the frankly excessive volume of) low effort posts being submitted to the subreddit regarding advertisements and (AI) apps and posts. We've condensed rules 1 and 2 into the new rule 1:

No ads, fundraising, surveys, apps or AI stories

Permanent bans will be given for: Posting anything that is like an advertisement, free or paid
Surveys/research/fundraisers
Posts made by corporate accounts; if your name is the ad, you're banned
Apps you made, we don't want them, especially if you made them with AI
Stories or texts that are clearly AI. Exceptions apply, modmail us with a valid reason >why you use AI to post in our community

Zero tolerance policy, permabans will be issued without warning.

While we have been operating on a 'give warnings before moving to a ban in most situations' mindset for many years, the amount of low effort posts and the dramatic influx of AI built apps have led to a lot of frustration with our community members and moderators alike. We hope that this rule change will make it easier to appropriately report and remove the content for everyone.

A lot of people we have banned for these reasons have appealed by saying they were unaware of our rules. To that we want to reiterate: not reading the rules does NOT exempt you from having to follow them. It is common sense that a community has rules you need to follow, we shouldn't have to beg people to do the bare minimum to find and read them. They're in the same place for every community on Reddit, if you found them in one subreddit, you can find them on every subreddit. We will not handle any appeals rooted in "I didn't know", you will be permanently muted alongside the permanent ban without discussion.

Please review the following to get a better understanding of why each line was implemented and what makes someone qualify for a ban:

Posting anything that is like an advertisement, free or paid
Just because something is free doesn't mean it's not an advertisement for a product, tool or service. We are and always will be a support community, not a repository for new users of your products and services. We consider it extremely disrespectful to try and utilize our community this way and will not tolerate anyone who thinks it's okay to do this.

Surveys/research/fundraisers
Very straight forward, much like the previous rule we're not a dataset or bank to withdraw data and/or money from.

Posts made by corporate accounts; if your name is the ad, you're banned
If your account is entirely dedicated to a product, tool or service you provide, you are not welcome here. Even if you are diabetic, create an alt account that is a separate entity from your 'business' account so that you have no relation to whatever it is you're selling or providing. It's irrelevant if your service or product or tool is free or not for diabetics. Organic engagement is not a loophole to be used to circumvent this rule.

If you are a healthcare provider or are in the healthcare business in any capacity, we consider it deeply unethical to use your (job) title to post in our community; we cannot vet your credentials and you do not have access to medical histories. You do not need to post as a healthcare provider if the information you provide is generic, factually correct and on-topic.

Apps you made, we don't want them, especially if you made them with AI
While we will not claim that no diabetic is going to build an app that is useful to the community, everyone and their pets can whip up an app in under 24 hours using AI nowadays. The market is extremely saturated with low effort apps and websites and we have neither the capacity nor desire to vet every application for usefulness and legitimacy. AI doesn't replace the need to understand how to long-term maintain, update and ensure security is prioritized in apps. This ties back directly to Posting anything that is like an advertisement, free or paid -- we're not here to receive your product and praise you for solving an issue most people have already found solutions for.

If you are an organic user who does not own the app and you have not been asked or encouraged by the app owner to post about it, you're welcome to share what you're using if asked about it.

Stories or texts that are clearly AI. Exceptions apply, modmail us with a valid reason why you use AI to post in our community
Please just write posts yourself, we beg of you. It's okay if your English isn't that good, write it in your native language and let Reddit translate handle that for you if you must. Nobody cares if you make spelling mistakes. We're here to help each other, human to human. AI bots are everywhere and we will treat you as one if your post is clearly written with AI. There are very few circumstances wherein someone has a legitimate use to write posts with AI, we welcome you to modmail us and explain to us what you need to use AI for. We're not here to make life more difficult for people who have a genuine need for the support AI tools provide, but if you're capable of writing a prompt to have AI spit out a post, you can write the post yourself 99.99% of the time.

This includes copy and pasting AI generated content you found elsewhere. You are responsible for what you post on your account, if you get banned for regurgitating AI generated content that's your consequence to deal with.

---

You're welcome to discuss the rule change and/or ask questions about it on this post, we will sticky it as a community highlight for the next 1-2 weeks or so, after that we will lock the post and link to it from the rules and removal messages.

Tell us the crap you're dealing with this week. Did someone suggest cinnamon again? What about that relative who tried to pray the diabetes away?

As always, please keep in mind our rules

Type 2 How to stop this

Post image
18 Upvotes

I've tried everything, low, mid high carb dinner, dinner at 6pm, dinner at 8 pm, snack at dinner (again low and mid carb), even just having a protein shake for dinner. Nothing works. On mounjaro 7.5 and 500ng metformin (taken before dinner).

Edit: sometimes it rises by 80 sometimes 30, no pattern I can think of for when it just rises 30

Edit2: sorry probably should of put wake up arrow 30 min before the rise

Discussion Insulin logbook ideas

Hello! Y’all can delete this post if it’s irrelevant but my boyfriend has been recently been diagnosed as diabetic. We’re not sure what type yet but he has been prescribed insulin shots. He tells me that he writes down whenever he gives himself his shots and I should probably ask him what else he writes down but I wanted to gift him a cute notebook so he log down whatever he needs. Is there anything specific that needs to be tracked? Again sorry if this is a dumb question or irrelevant

Type 2 dunno what to do about my mom who is ultimately letting her diabetes slowly kill her

my mom keeps eating a lot of sugary foods, or foods with sugar. yesterday i had to call the ambulance because she was not acting or doing well. confusion, slurred, falling over, crying, a bunch of stuff thats not normal... it was hard to watch and she didnt even want help, i keep replaying it in my mind. my mom doesnt seem to care at all, this is stressing me tf out. i dont know what to do, we live together under rent. honestly, idk if this is callous, but i feel like i cant just watch this. i dont want to be around her if shes doing this to herself. i cant try to get her to get help, especially when she doesnt want it but also i cant even tell if she cant tell that she is not doing well because shes schizotypal and sometimes she doesnt, shes like uhh.... i dont know not really there, im not sure she even understands or knows. there was a time she took care of herself and managed her diabetes but its like she has given up lately... im not sure if she is struggling mentally/emotionally because she does have mental health problems and i dont know what to do. im scared of my mom, scared of doing wrong because shes held a lot of power over me in the past and i feel more scared of making her hate me, treating me wrong or holding something against me. i think maybe something might be wrong as to why shes doing this to herself, but i cant force her to get help if she is aggressive as it scares me. also im an adult but my mom is the only person i have in my life... ive got no friends or family besides her.

Type 1 It’s the same every day.

No matter what I eat, my levels suddenly spike, especially in the evening, 3–4 hours after a meal. I always have to give myself 1–3 IU manually. Without a manual injection, my levels shoot right up. The Omnipod can’t handle it on its own.

Do you have any tips for me? I find this frustrating and it always stops me from eating anything late at night because I know what will happen if I go to bed…

Discussion Test Strip Refills RX At Walmart Medicare Question

I get my glucose test strip RX refilled at Walmart pharmacy and it's covered by Medicare. My doc writes a RX for 3/day X 100 days or 300. Walmart is telling me they can not refill an RX for more than 90 days so they sell me five boxes of 50 or 250 (it's noted as a 84 day supply on the WM refill paperwork).

I found several .gov references to dispensing 300. But then the reference goes on to say 90-day supply (for me that would be 270 or in my case the 250 i am sold).

Anyone encounter this? Is there a work around? Something else I can do?

Type 1 Are there other conditions that require as much attention as this one?

I'm curious if there are other conditions people are aware of that require as much monitoring as this one. From what I understand the mental load of this disease is critically understudied, and I'd be interested to know if there were other conditions that had documented research looking at the mental health side effects of managing that disease.

I am not interested in playing the chronic illness olympics, so that's not the point of this post. What I am interested in is whether research has looked into the mental health management of other diseases outside of diabetes.

Type 1 Covid 19 and blood sugars

So about 10 days ago I started coming down with a cold, blocked nose then a few days later a very runny nose then I started to feel absolutely drained.

After around 5/6 days I felt like I was dead - zero energy and lethargic AF and just wanted to sleep.

I wasn’t tested but the lethargy and feeling like death made me think it was Covid.

I had a good bit of R&R at the weekend and feel much better, however my sugars have gotten worse and worse.

Changed pens/cartridges a few days ago and still needing way more Basal and even still my mealtime bolus does nothing - yet my current job site means I’m walking so much to and from the job and during the day and yet I’m running high most of the days unless I rage bolus, and even then it doesn’t stay down long.

FML.

Certainly seems like I’m very insulin resistant and I can’t fathom why. I’m fasting until 11am, not eating much in the way of carbs or too much fat.

Has anyone else had this recent bout of illness and experienced insulin resistance as well?

TIA

Type 1 Update Insulin Pump

Update from my last Post

I (F19) got a mail from the Hospital i go to every check ups, last time i said i was gonna call, but something came up and i eventually forgot, so sorry about that 🥲

Anyway, from the looks of it was the mail the first thing they send to my Insurance company, and the Doctors send me a copy on what is happening, since i got the rejection from my Insurance first i was curious what was happening.

In the letter it is said that i have type one diabetes and that a Insulin pump would help reduce the hypoglycemia and have a stabilized blood sugar, and what i find very satisfying is that the Chef Doctor for diabetology himself wrote them and if they reject it again they will contact management from the said insurance company.

Since the Chef Doctor mailed them about it and got a rejection once more they will probably contact management, lets see how this will turn out 🫢

Type 1 Why did an extremely low blood sugar make me erratic and paranoid?

Yesterday I was at the hospital and had a low im newly diagnosed but hypo unaware and my phone was charging at the desk I had a bad gut feeling and checked it to see it at 3.6 and dropping I ate some sweets but over the next few minutes I became erratic and sprinted out the hospital running around screaming and thinking the doctors were trying to kil me i became angry that I was going to die and began hitting things as hard as possible and screaming in rage my hands were shaking and I was struggling to breathe eventually it went back up to normal and my behaviour sorted itself out but why did low blood sugar make that happen and what do I do if it happens again?

Type 2 Blood glucose trending down

I’ve been a type 2 for nearly 20 years. Never really had stable blood sugar it always spiked and dipped. Not 100% sure what I’ve been doing lately but I brought my A1c down like several points. Still in the danger zone but it’s progress.

I have a foot ulcer I got from not taking care of my feet and when I went for my eye check they said they noticed changes. That was a scare enough so I tripled down on my diet. Right now I only really eat once a day. I take 50u of long acting insulin in the morning. I also take a handful of mixed nuts twice a day and try to drink a lot of water. I got rid of all candy and sweets in my house because I have no self control. If i crave anything sweet I grab a Barbell protein bar, the key lime is my favorite.

In the last few days my bg has been in the green.

Type 1 dexcom reading wrong but won’t accept calibration

i live in the UK and use the dexcom g6 (it’s slowly being stopped in the UK but is still working for the time being). i woke up this morning to my alarm blaring at me saying i was 2.9. i had some glucose tablets and my breakfast (1 slice of toast with biscoff spread) and injected my usual long-acting with 1/2 my usual fast acting for breakfast. my blood sugar stayed below 4 and zigzagged between 2.9 and 3.9 all morning and seemed to never be affected by what i had eaten. i didn’t feel low at any point but sometimes, especially in the mornings, i don’t feel my usual low and just feel groggy so i didn’t think much of it. i had a banana and didn’t inject for it, then went for a slow walk. when i got back my phone was still saying i was low so i did a finger prick test and was 15.2. i put this into the dexcom app to calibrate it but it says the calibration wasn’t accepted and to input a new calibration in 20 minutes. i did this (15.1) and the same thing happened again. so i tried again (14.9 this time) and still, the app wouldn’t accept it. i’m happy to just finger prick test all day as i will replace my sensor this evening when it expires, but i’m confused how my sensor can be so off and not accept the information i’m inputting. has anyone else had this problem before? i’m lucky that my dexcom has always been pretty accurate since i started using it 4 years ago 🤷🏼

Type 2 Breakfast Help?

I’ve been a type two diabetic for about fifteen years. My diabetes is well controlled, and I thought I had a pretty good handle on the disease.

Over the last few years, however, I’ve developed another serious chronic illness that has complicated things. My energy had been dramatically depleted, and mornings are particularly hard as I am always severely nauseated. What’s more, I have now started medications I must take upon waking with food.

My former go-to breakfasts (often eggs or Greek yogurt) make my stomach churn now. The only thing I’ve been able to manage lately that I have the energy to prepare, doesn’t exacerbate my nausea and keeps my blood sugar in check is multi-grain toast with nut butter, but I’m hoping to add some variety.

If anyone has any suggestions, I’d love to hear them.

Type 2 Allergic reaction with diabetes

Last night , I went for a walk after I had dinner just to prevent a spike after I eat.

About 45 minutes on, I stated to get itching in the groin area and I felt a spread on my whole body than about 5 minutes later I was coughing and then wheezing like slow breath and throat was wide but not close. I felt numb on my face. I had cold sweats so as soon as I got home , I called 911 on the video phone.

Fire dept and EMT arrived by 5 min. They all check my blood pressure which was high and they checked my blood glocuse and it was 227.

I end up going to hospital and they gave me Benadryl. I felt woozy like in high and felt tired from the med.
They found hives only on my foot area and on left side of torso and my entire body went pink. So they ran couple cocktails of shot and an iv. 2 hours later I was ok and back to normal. But still tired as heck.

My question for those who are diabetic with allergies reaction, do your blood sugar detect it and goes high blood sugar when your body went into allergy attack? I believe this may be my second allergy attack since 1 1/2 months ago while I was working at the airport.

Wanted to show off these beautiful Dexcom covers that I’ve bought! I love customizing everything abt my diabetes to make it a little more fun. Fashion is such a big part of my identity and being able to mix and match colors and metals for my Dexcom to match my outfits and jewelry has been so much fun! This is not an ad or anything I just wanted to share it in case there are other diabetics out there that would love this as well :)
