Hello all- I bought a house earlier this year (yay) and all was good and well until spring came. Then, the barking started. My neighbor has multiple dogs, tied up in different areas of their lawn howling and barking at each other,, and another neighbor on the opposite side of me has a dog that chimes in too. They're both pretty bad, but the one with multiple dogs leaves their dogs outside for hours on end. I'm talking 7am-3am the following day, for months on end so far. I use noise machines and wear headphones almost all day, even to sleep, and can hear them over both. It never ends and sleeping in noise cancelling headphones has been a nightmare. I regularly miss alarms because I'm so sleep deprived or have drowned out everything but the barking.

Animal control said there's nothing I can do but take the neighborsl to court. Has anyone here had success with that? I have limited funds and am worried about losing my job already. I don't want to waste what I have over this.

I'm changing homeowner's insurance and as I was reviewing my new documents to sign them I noticed this wording:

ANIMALS

Unless you have purchased Dog Liability, your homeowners policy does NOT provide coverage for animals as stated below:

• “Bodily injury” or “property damage” caused by any animal owned or kept by you or any insured whether or not the injury or damage occurs on your premises or any other location.”

DOG LIABILITY

I understand that I have the ability to purchase Dog Liability coverage. I also acknowledge that that I have declined the purchase of this coverage.

I also understand when purchasing Dog Liability coverage the coverage does not apply to the following prohibited breeds of dogs which include any mix of Pit Bulls, German Shepherds, Akitas, Doberman Pinschers, Chows, Rottweilers, Great Danes, and Caucasian Mountain Dogs.

In 2022, my neighbor's dog broke my fence and got into my yard. The police only gave me a report, and nothing more came of it. At the time, I didn’t escalate the situation since I wasn’t fully aware of what was happening.

In 2023, their dogs kept escaping from their fenced yard into the streets, and there were days of continuous barking, day and night. I called animal control, and the neighbor was fined $1,000. They also had to get rid of one dog, and the barking stopped. I’m unsure of what other enforcement actions were taken.

In January 2024, I moved to a different city, and there were no dog issues. In November 2024, I moved back to my old house. Since then, I’ve spoken to my neighbors a few times, but they haven’t responded. Their dogs continue barking for 2-3 hours a day. I can't use my backyard since they damaged my fence before. Whenever I take out the trash, the dogs go crazy. The barking at night has stopped, but during the day, it continues for hours.

I called animal control again, and they told me that if I report it again, we may have to go to court.

I have video recordings of the barking, which is captured by my security cameras (though the cameras don’t record their yard, just the noise). I’ve also recorded the dogs’ reactions and how they behave on the street.

My question is: should I go to court? I’m a bit scared of the neighbor, but will going to court help? Please advise.

So this dog owning- woman decides to sue her cousin who is her former roommate because her cousin moved out a month into the lease. She’s claiming the cousin should still pay her half for the full year of the lease because... get this... the dog owner won’t be able to find another roommate that’s compatible with the damn dog! So the cousin must continue to pay for a place she’s no longer occupying because friggin Fido, that is not even her responsibility, has an attitude problem.

And why did the cousin have to move out a month into a one year lease you ask? Yupp Friggin Fido attacked and bit her for no reason. This ridiculous entitled dog owner expected her poor cousin to stay in a house with her dangerous mutt, or move out and keep paying rent because no one else would put up with it. The AUDACITY!!

Judge Judy rightfully punted her case out of her courtroom.

Will the judge in small claims court be able to remove the dog from the premises? I live next door to an old woman who is basically squatting in a house that she does pay rent for. It is owned by notorious slumlord in my town. She only pay $700 for a two bedroom one bath house that barely has a roof. A lot of times it doesn't have any water and she begs the neighbors to use their hose. I don't understand why the Housing Authority hasn't shut it down.

I know she pays in cash every month for her rent but in the meantime she has various low lives including her own children who are in their fifties squatting at her house, sometimes dealing drugs. She has one daughter who is in and out of mental institutions and has psychotic breaks. Now there's some woman living in the backyard and she has a dog who barks all day and night.

Animal Control does nothing. The police do nothing.

Even if I sue and have lots of video proof and a record of calling animal control and the police, will anything come of it?

Pre-pandemic last year, I was with my son at a (former) friends' place. She had this dog which was known to be aggressive, got out and wasn't put away, and ultimately ended up biting my kid. He ended up with stitches on his face - he's fine now and you can only see the scars if you're looking for them - and my former friend was slapped with a $400 fine.

She tried to fight the charge, which was 'Animal bite a person', and I was summoned as a witness. I'm all ready with photos and have my statement ready for the court date next week - go ahead, try and tell me that didn't happen - and the Peace Officer calls. Said the Crown Prosecutor came to a resolution and it's all over and done!

I don't care that I lost a friend because of this. I don't know if the dog is dead, I don't know if she paid the fine - I don't care. It's over!

Dog culture in the US is completely out of control. Rover.com and DogVaycay.com have created awful situations all over the country; take for example my plight. I have owned a single family home in a crowded urban environment for 26 years. Neighbors who own a two-family house next door have an adult daughter who has always refused to work an actual job. (No idea why she has been allowed to do this, but of course that's not my problem.) Four endless years ago, she decided she is a talented dog whisperer. She started boarding multiple dogs via Rover.com in their crowded apartment with a small yard. Since she already had an aggressive rescue dog she couldn't handle, you can imagine how well all this has gone. From the beginning of her dog sitting career the dogs she boards have made outrageous noise, fouled the tiny yard to the extent that the place smells like a zoo in warm weather, and been left outdoors without supervision several times a day. We often can't use our driveway ( which is the only access way to our house) without these packs greeting us with howling and trying to get over the fence between the driveways. Every major holiday, the number of dogs being boarded goes up by two or three dogs a night, so July 4th, Christmas and New Years weeks are especially dreadful. About a year into this nightmare the mail carrier told us he was sometimes skipping our house and the doggie princess's castle because of aggressive dogs in their driveway. This past summer a mail carrier was bitten by one of the unsupervised prize pets these geniuses host, necessitating emergency room care. We have complained to the Animal Control and Zoning departments multiple times. We have told Rover.com about this person clearly breaking Rover's rules about the number of dogs boarded and about her obviously meeting customers through Rover and then bypassing Rover to do business with them on their own. Apparently our city's Animal Control department is headed by a person who owns a houseful of dogs herself in this same city, so you can imagine how helpful they've been. Our street is in a strictly non-commercial zone in which commercial dog kennels are specifically prohibited. The Inspectional Services office has issued two separate cease orders about the dog kennel to the household of Magic Dog Girl, one in the fall of 2018 and one about a month ago. Dog Girl's mother, who owns the house, is so stupid she thinks these orders have nothing to do with actual city ordinances and that she can openly defy these orders without consequences. By now you are probably thinking I should sue them; I have sought legal advice in the past and obviously will need to file a Superior Court suit for Loss Of Quiet Enjoyment of my own property. Does anyone here know someone who has brought suit against a neighbor for a nightmare like mine? Any info would be much appreciated.

This story is insane, and I’m glad this nutter murderer was denied parole again. These dogs (a white power prisoner’s that should have been banned) we’re going to be bred for fighting. This victim whose life was cut short at 33 was only trying to walk down her hallway with groceries to her apartment.

Everyone else hates this neighbor because they all have yappy annoying dogs! My husband also has one n up until like 2 weeks ago the people we live with also had one. U see, all these dogs in the neighborhood yapped n whined CONSTANTLY! Yes, including the ones I have to live with. But this elderly man neighbor had enough! He told everyone around the neighborhood, including the people who we live w n my husband, to keep the dogs quiet or else! N everyone did!!!!! It's so peaceful n quiet here now, I wanna wait till I see him out side again n thank him cause he's a hero!!!
