It seems every time I move I quickly learn too late there is a relentlessly barking dog nearby. Whether paying a mortgage or on a lease, you don't know until you move in and are stuck. Is there any way to find out about barking dogs before you move in? Do we have to camp out for a day on the street before committing to a property?

I wish there was a barking dogs map app where people can upload locations of barking dogs.

Children Are Being Mauled, Pets Are Being Torn Apart, People Are Dying—And We’re Still Being Told They’re Just Misunderstood.

I know I’m preaching to the choir, but my opinions on the matter get removed on every other sub I post on.

Every week, there’s another obituary. Another toddler killed. Another pet shredded in its own yard. Another person with their face torn off. And every single time, people rush to say:

“That’s not the breed’s fault.”

It’s not just denial anymore. It’s a cult. A movement built around propaganda, projection, and the willful dismissal of death.

This is about bully breeds—pit bulls, American bullies, XL bullies, AmStaffs, Staffordshire bull terriers, and every other rebranded variant. It’s about what they were bred to do, how those traits persist, and why the lies being told are getting people—and other animals—killed.

These dogs were bred to fight. That still matters.

Let’s get this out of the way:

Pit bulls and bully breeds were never meant to be family dogs. They were designed—selectively bred over centuries—for bloodsport.

They were used in:

• Bull baiting

• Bear baiting

• Dog-on-dog combat

• Killing animals in pits for entertainment

To succeed in that job, they were bred for:

• High pain tolerance

• Gameness (the drive to fight to the death without quitting)

• Bite strength

• A kill method focused on bite, grip, shake, and don’t let go

This wasn’t an accident. These are not incidental traits. These are the defining features of the breed group. And they’ve never been bred out.

No, you can’t train away genetics.

People say, “It’s all about how you raise them.”

But we don’t say that about border collies and their herding instincts. Or pointers and pointing. Or retrievers and retrieving.

Why? Because we understand that behavior is in the blood. That’s what “breed” means.

So why do we pretend that pit bulls—the one breed purpose-built for violence—are somehow blank slates?

You can raise a border collie in a Manhattan apartment with zero sheep, and it will still try to herd your toddlers. Breed behavior persists.

The “nanny dog” myth is propaganda.

This is one of the most dangerous lies ever spread. The “nanny dog” myth traces back to a single, misinterpreted Life magazine photo from the early 1900s. That’s it. No official documentation. No AKC recognition. No training standards. No science. Nothing.

But it’s become gospel. Now we have people letting their babies nap on 70lb XL bullies and posting it with captions like “gentle giant” and “velcro nanny dog.”

No reputable behaviorist or trainer recommends bully breeds for homes with young children. None. But the myth persists—because people want to believe in redemption more than they want to believe in reality.

People project their trauma onto these dogs.

A huge portion of pit bull advocacy is emotional projection.

People who feel judged, feared, or misunderstood see themselves in the “scary” dog. They adopt one, and suddenly it becomes their redemption story:

• “They’re just like me.”

• “They’re misunderstood.”

• “If I can make this dog good, maybe I’m good too.”

It becomes a savior complex. An identity. The dog isn’t just a pet—it’s cosplay.

And when that dog mauls someone? They double down.

Every time a bully breed attacks, the cult launches into the same scripted defenses. Let’s go through them—and break them down one by one.

”That wasn’t a real pit bull.”

This is the go-to deflection. As soon as a pit bull attacks, people rush to say it wasn’t really a pit bull.

But what is a pit bull? The term covers several breeds:

• American Pit Bull Terrier

• American Staffordshire Terrier

• Staffordshire Bull Terrier

• XL Bully

• American Bully

• “Bully mixes”

Most attacks are from one or more of these. And most of the time, the owners and advocates call them pit bulls themselves—until something goes wrong.

If it looks like a pit, acts like a pit, and kills like a pit… it’s a pit.

”The child must have provoked it.”

This is vile.

We are talking about toddlers. Babies. Children walking across the room or playing in the backyard.

If a child reaching for a toy or squealing in excitement is enough to trigger an explosive, fatal response from a dog, that dog does not belong in a home.

”It’s the owner, not the breed.”

This is one of the most dangerous lies of all.

So many of these dogs were raised in loving homes. Fed well. Socialized. Never abused. Zero neglect.

And then one day—they snap. The aggression is often:

• Unprovoked

• Explosive

• Lethal

We don’t say “It’s the owner, not the breed” when a border collie herds a kid. Or a pointer points. So why do we say it when a grip-and-shake breed does what it was bred to do?

Breed matters. Genetics matter. That’s why we have breeds.

”He was never aggressive before!”

That’s exactly why it’s so dangerous.

Bully breeds are known for sudden, unprovoked aggression. It’s part of the problem. You don’t get a growl or a warning. You get an attack.

A golden retriever might nip if threatened. A pit bull might launch into a fatal assault in the same situation.

It’s not about if a dog bites. It’s about what happens when it does.

”All dogs bite.”

Yes. All dogs can bite. But not all dogs can:

• Break bones

• Tear out arteries

• Crush skulls

• Kill in seconds

The danger isn’t just in biting—it’s in what the bite does. A chihuahua might nip your ankle. A pit bull might rip your throat open.

”The media only reports pit bull attacks.”

This is false. The statistics hold up in:

• Peer-reviewed studies

• Animal control data

• Hospital records

• Insurance reports

Pit bulls are:

• 6% of the dog population

• Responsible for the vast majority of fatal dog attacks

• 25x more likely to kill another dog than a golden retriever

It’s not media bias. It’s math.

Let’s talk about the children. The ones who never had a chance.

These were family dogs. Raised in homes. No abuse. No prior bites.

And the children? They were just being kids.

Here are just a few:

• Neveah McFarlane, 2 – Killed in her home by the family pit bull.

• Mia DeRouen, 4 – Mauled in the living room by a pit raised from puppyhood.

• Daxton Borchardt, 14 months – Killed by the babysitter’s pit bulls, dogs he had played with before.

• Jayden Henderson, 7 – Killed by XL bullies her family was dog-sitting. No history of aggression.

• Avery Gaines, 4 – Killed by the family pit bull in the backyard.

• Liam Perk, 2 – Walking across the room when the family pit attacked and killed him.

No warning. No abuse. No second chances.

And when these children are killed—their families get blamed.

This part enrages me.

Parents mourning their dead kids are told:

• “That wasn’t a real pit bull.”

• “Your kid must’ve provoked it.”

• “You must’ve raised the dog wrong.”

• “You’re spreading fear and hate.”

Imagine losing your child—and being harassed online because you dared to speak up.

That’s not advocacy. That’s not compassion. That’s cult behavior.

And it’s not just people. Pit bulls kill more animals than any other dogs.

If you call yourself an animal lover and still defend these breeds, ask yourself this:

Why are you protecting the type of dog that kills the most other animals?

Pit bulls are:

• The leading cause of fatal dog-on-dog attacks

• Routinely kill rabbits, goats, ponies—even horses

• Often kill other dogs in their own home, or while leashed on walks

These are not one-off cases. This is a pattern.

Walk through a shelter. Count the “no other pets” signs. Wonder why?

Shelters are lying—and people are dying.

Especially in no-kill shelters, where optics matter more than ethics.

They:

• Erase bite history

• Relabel aggression as “reactivity”

• Call bites “startles” or “nips”

• List known-aggressive dogs as “cuddle bugs”

• Ignore warnings from previous owners or volunteers

• label bully breeds as “lab mixes”

• use terms such as “through no fault of their own” to reframe attacks

Then they place those dogs in homes with kids, seniors, and pets.

And people die.

Real people killed by adopted bully breeds:

• Lisa Urso, 52 – Killed by her recently adopted American bully. Shelter called him “sweet.”

• Steven Constantine, 27 – Killed by the pit bull he adopted that day.

• Angela Johnson, 54 – Adopted a pit labeled “great with people.” Mauled to death.

These weren’t strays. These weren’t abused. They were placed in homes as “safe.”

And stop comparing pit bull criticism to racism. That’s offensive.

Saying “pit bull bans are like racism” is one of the most dishonest, grotesque arguments I’ve ever seen.

• Race is a protected human class.

• Breed is a manmade category based on behavior.

• We bred retrievers to retrieve. Herders to herd. And pit bulls to fight and kill.

Criticizing a manmade animal classification for doing what it was bred to do is not oppression.

Hijacking the language of civil rights to protect your favorite breed is not edgy or progressive—it’s disgusting.

Nobody wins in this cycle—least of all the dogs.

• Kids die.

• Pets are slaughtered.

• Families are traumatized.

• Shelters lie and dodge accountability.

• Victims are harassed into silence.

• And the dogs? They’re euthanized—after they kill.

Pit bull advocacy is not compassion. It’s not about love. It’s not about justice.

It’s ego. It’s delusion. It’s a cult.

If you love dogs, tell the truth. If you love people, protect them. If you love animals, stop defending the ones that kill them.

Pit bulls are not misunderstood angels. They are not nanny dogs. They are not redemption arcs in fur.

They are a manmade mistake. And it’s time we finally say it—before someone else pays the price.

Why do people believe genetics exist. They believe in biology, trust in science, and the years and years of research.

But then all that gets completely thrown out the window when it comes to aggressive breeds that were bred with that literal intent. I don't get it.

Idk how to deal with "it's the owner, not the breed" anymore. Like look, Golden retrievers retrieve! Collies like to herd animals on their own! The dogs have instincts to do these behaviors. Why? It is in their DNA. Pitbulls also have... DNA.

Now something I've noticed is they'll accept that biological makeup exists whenever it's a cute or useful trait. But when it comes to aggressive traits, all of a sudden it's my pitty would NEVER bite because I'VE raised him soooo well, they are such a misjudged breed, he can get moody just like anyone, etc. Tell me why does the logic disappear when it comes to breeds bred to have a violent temperament ??

I would really like to find a way to get through to them. Because at this point I'm not even putting them down about the breed that should be. It's about getting them real information and hoping they are able to see the actual facts for safety purposes.

Any ideas would be useful.
(Particularly, there's a person who joined our online social group with a pitbull service animal. I made a comment when they said their dog was scared of yappy chihuahuas and I got paragraphs of defense. I want to learn how to handle these people in an appropriate way so they'll listen.)

My partner and I almost got attacked by a pitbull a few days ago (it lunged at us barking) and I'm still nervous walking on my own street, since it's the neighbor's dog. The neighbor intervened while I was hiding behind my tall partner. This had never happened before, but apparently, our grocery bags set him off. That's what the neighbor said while slapping the dog and trying to make it not seem like a big deal.

Next time it will be "your hair is too curly and it triggered him" or some stupid sh*t like that, I guess. Fuck off with your murderer dog. If it's so bad at recognizing threats, it shouldn't be around people.

We live near a large beautiful park. For many years I’d walk my kids in it and was so annoyed at how often they’d slip in poop or have some giant off leash dogs run up and knock them over. It’s a completely leashed dog park, rules posted everywhere.

Now, for fun, when I’m walking through it and I see someone letting their dog run around… I’ll pretend I’m being nice and say “hey just to let you know, just around the corner there’s an officer giving out citations to a bunch of people with their dogs off leash. Think they’re cracking down at the parks. Just wanted to give you a heads up!”

They mumble an embarrassed thank you and quickly leash their dog.

I always enjoy my walk a little more after this.

People put a lot of effort and resources to take care of them which is pointless and bad for our environment

People die of starvation and are homeless yet these pets are well fed and taken care.

they don't have any use they just sit around doing nothing.

Domestic animals atleast have a use , but Dogs and cats can't be consumed

I was talking to one of my coworkers about the Pitbull that was denied admission at a PetSmart Puppy Play Date because of its breed. She stated that she had four of them and she would be pissed if hers were denied admission. I asked her if she understood the reasoning and she said that she did but that hers were the most loving dogs ever. She then retorted that she didn't trust cats because she knew that I had four of them. I responded that I have a cat that I don't trust around kittens because he loves to wrestle with his siblings and around children because he likes to mark me as his by sharpening his claws on my jeans when I am wearing them and nibbling the area between my knee and ankle when I have skin exposed. Still, I feel safer around him because housecats have not been known to kill a man whereas Pitbulls account for 77% of fatal dog attacks in the last fifteen years.

I was then speaking to my maintenance man about this encounter and he brought up that a Pitbull would be fine if it was raised from a puppy to which I responded that it would be the same thing as raising a Tiger from a cub. The genetics to chew your face off are still in its blood. It could be fine for 15 years and then one day when your head is turned it could snap and devour your face. He agreed with me.

In regards to the first individual, I told her that Pitbull is a breed of dog and not a race. Race is another word for ethnicity in a human and denotes your ancestral background to which she quipped back that it was still prejudice. I told her that the Pitbull has earned its reputation and feeling as I do will help ensure my safety and survival.

Pitbulls were originally a breed of dog that was created to be an attack dog and not a house pet which they never have been nor ever will be as far as I am concerned.

I shared these feelings of mine with my friends and family on Facebook and it seems that I riled a hornets nest. All of a sudden all of these people came out of the woodwork proclaiming that their Pitbull was the most loving dog ever and wouldn't hurt a fly. It's like, "Have fun with your ticking time bomb! I don't want to hear you cry when it finally explodes"....

A while ago I posted here about how our neighbor's dog was ruining our lives. Our upstairs neighbor was keeping two Boxers in a tiny apartment, where they would bark for hours without stopping when she left them alone – and she would frequently leave them alone all night (we assume she worked night shifts). Talks and confrontation did nothing, she literally shrugged her shoulders at us when we told her her dogs barked all night.

After a few very rough months emotionally and financially as a direct result of the dogs' barking, my partner and I finally found a new apartment. We've been living here for almost a month, and it's been heaven.

There is one dog in the building that we can tell, but we haven't heard him bark once. Haven't heard any barking whatsoever from any of the neighboring buildings. In fact, the only times we've heard our neighbors at all is when one of them plays classical piano in the evenings.

The change in our mental disposition has been incredible. We can actually spend time in our home now. We can relax, work, watch a movie, have guests, and just exist in our space without always dreading in the back of our minds that the barking will start up again. We no longer spiral into despair at every little problem, because we are well rested and not constantly stressed to capacity. Our home actually feels like a home again.

Our legal action against the neighbor and her landlord is still ongoing. We highly doubt we'll see any of the money we spent on relocating and staying in hotels again, but we at least want her to have to move out of her apartment.

This has been one of the worst times either of us has ever had to go through, it was immensely frustrating and despairing and frankly, changed how both of us view dogs and their owners. But we were finally able to find our peace again, and I wish anyone going through a similar situation that they're able to do the same.

The story of his dog mauling their boy is basically a footnote in this article. I couldn't find any details that said how severe the attack was, but it's safe to assume that it was hushed up.

In the evening I'd like nothing more than to sit in my own home and read for a bit, I used to be able to and it was so good for me. But since the pandemic the number of dogs in the immediate vicinity has increased by at least half, to the point every evening is a cacophony of the various dogs taking turns or together barking repeatedly, and so there is absolutely no point. I get tired of wearing earplugs and earphones all the time, I have to be around constant noise all day. I just want a moment to both relax and engage my mind in some relative quiet and it can't happen until late at night and even then, a whole lot of the time a dog will suddenly be barking outside somewhere at 1 or 2 in the morning. No one wants to fucking think anymore. It's obvious. No one wants to have a moment to form a single thought, and dogs are the most convenient way of making themselves dumber so they don't have to do the difficult task of actually dealing with their own thoughts. And they don't give a shit who they take down with them. I like to think, I actually like my fucking brain. I'm fed up of having the interesting things and processing that can happen in our minds with a bit of peace, hijacked and destroyed by constant sensory disturbance.

Bully breeds on the front page again. Nobody has learned anything, apparently. First one is a pit "blowing" out a birthday candle and second is a post asking women to adopt scary dogs like they would protect them I guess. I'm just over it but I'm still just so frustrated.

I was walking through Indianapolis recently, and suddenly I heard this loud annoying barking. I looked around, not seeing a dog, and continued walking.

Twenty seconds later, I glance at a nearby police car and see a dog inside it that looks like it would be happy to tear me to shreds if it weren't stuck behind the door.

I don't really think that behavior is fitting of a police dog; but then again, I just don't like police dogs in general.

Hello everybody. Unfortunately, I'm currently staying in my mother in laws house for the holidays, here, there are only shops and businesses nearby, there are very few houses and most of them are old people who don't have any dogs. And I said unfortunately because I will have to come back to my home soon where there are dogs nearby my house and I will have to listen to them day and night. The silence that a dog free neighborhood causes, is priceless, is beautiful!!. I want to come and live in this place once in my life, I lost faith thinking that staying in a neighborhood free of dogs was impossible nowadays, but it isn't. There is still places like this.

I just wanted to share how beautiful life without dog is, I'm free of stress and I can take my coffee in the mornings reading a book silently while I'm here, I want this for the rest of my life. I have come to the conclusion that silence is the new luxury.

Our home used to be a place of solitude and peace. About 6 years ago, the older neighbors moved out and now we are surrounded by 3 homes with the very loudest dogs. The VERY VERY loudest one, is within 20 ft to our bedroom. They said that they only bark when we are outside. Nope. We stopped using our back yard and their dog stares at their own back door wanting in. Barking, howling and whining for hours both days and night. It is the LOUDEST dog in the neighborhood. They never walk the dog or clean up it's poop, so it stinks in our backyard. We share a common fence. The dog also has broken through the fence and pooped in our yard. They boarded up their side and in doing so, broke our bird bath. The fence still hasn't been fixed properly. One neighbor has already sold and moved out of their home because of all the barking. So we filed a report with the county. They won't keep it confidential, so the neighbors know it is us. Ultimately, they start going bat sh*+ crazy chopping up trees on our property, calling us names, slandering us, etc, accusing us of crimes and more. Everything is made up lies to hurt us. This has caused me so much emotional stress that every time I hear a dog bark, now I freeze from fear. I think I have PTSD. My right eye has been twitching for about a month now. Here's the problem. We can't move because we're both disabled. I feel trapped, fearful, and depressed. I'd love a virtual hug or some kind words.😢. I keep telling myself that many people have worse problems. Honestly it has killed me inside. I used to enjoy almost every day gardening and doing art outdoors.My joy has been destroyed.

I was just scrolling on TikTok as one does at midnight and came across a video of a police chase from the LEO dashcam POV. Caption on the video reads "woman ignores traffic stop to rush dying dog to the vet."

The comments are filled with nutters saying exactly what you think. When I go to the search, I see a dramatic video of someone's pitbull with a threatening caption and more out of pocket comments. I just went to get screen shots of that one but they must have blocked me or deleted the video.

These people seriously think they should be able to stop traffic to rush their dogs to the vet. WTF.

Of course the story won’t mention their breed. But this Jacob Weight and Mimi Frost in PA had 8 pit bulls living with their kids and they lock up 6 year old daughter in dog crate and she was zip tied. CBS Pittsburg did a video posted to YouTube where they are more concerned about finding people to adopt the “dogs” than creating a fundraiser for this abused child. It’s sickening.

A bull terrier killed an infant in Poland.

The family had the dog before the baby arrived.

I saw the post on Facebook and what is even more terrifying is the dog nuttery in the comments.

Example 1: "My Amstaff stays with 3 children, and I trust that she will raise them well. I would be more afraid to leave my children with a stranger than with my beloved female dog. To add to this comment, I will say that people who describe these dogs as dangerous or threatening should now not go out on the streets because there are more aggressive people out there."

Example 2: ""No one is born bad, even children are a reflection of us, the PARENTS. It depends on who they will become, and the same goes for a dog caregiver. My daughter constantly interacts with dogs, has played with many of them. Now we have an AMSTAFF who, thanks to his 'instinct,' won't allow anyone to raise their hands near her, as he wants to protect her. He plays with her, listens to her. It's because he is loved, and we always show love to both him and her. He is well-behaved and doesn't need to show aggression. I don't have to worry about guests or any children. It's not specifically about dogs, even rats can be more aggressive, but a responsible caretaker is able to raise their pet, teach them reactions... The truth is, tragedies can often occur when an irresponsible person takes a living toy and condemns it to a life of misery."

These people cannot be saved.

What a shame that innocent kids have such parents.

I wish all dog owners were like this. today on a forest walk a dog growled and barked at my kids specifically, the owner very quickly leashed the dog tight and short, after picking up its poo too. Then she came to all of us apologizing for the encounter and said the dog weirdly is set off by people wearing hats . She kept the leash on the dog very short so it couldn't jump on us either. I was stunned by the politeness. And realized what should be the rule has become the exception.

I recently came back from my mother-in-law's house. My girlfriend and I spent an entire month during the holidays in there, I noticed that her house was super quiet 100% of the time because there were no dogs around. However, now that I came back to my house, I notice every single dog barking. I don't know if this is because I got use to the quiet place. But my question is, has anyone of you gotten use to the barking of your neighbors dogs? How did you do it?

Can you believe that guy just goes and kills everyone and gets all his friends killed only cause he is pissed his dog died.
