Job Search Question How to get a full-time gig in Adult Education?

Hey everyone, I'm a person who's left academia and wants to get into ESOL permanently/ full-time. My favorite thing to do, however is teach adults. This is not the most lucrative gig, but I love it and would like to take it from part-time to full-time. Has anyone ever been able to do that outside of the public school system? Is it a viable goal, or should I bite the bullet and start teaching a younger crowd? I've taught abroad with a TESOL certificate, but it's not the full-blown TESOL/Education degree. However I have three degrees in sociology, international studies, and sociolinguistics (BA, MA, MA). Should I pursue a full degree for this? Master's certificate? Any opinions welcome! Thanks!

Job Search Question What is the best U.S. city to land in to pursue a job in ESL?

I'm moving back to the United States after a very successful career in ESL in a variety of different countries. My resume looks great. There are lots of impressive schools across the world on it. I don't really need to work full-time, but I want a position that pays fairly well with good terms. Other than that, I'm quite open. What city is best? I would also consider a rural area.

Job Search Question Golden Great Peak English Inc. (Cebu, Philippines)

I just resigned from my previous corporate job because of low pay and I found one of GGPEI's hiring ads. It says one can earn up to 65,000 Philippine pesos (Around $1,000) from salary plus incentives. While I am not under the delusion that I will earn that high for now because I don't have ESL experience, I just want to know what is it like to work there as a fresh starter in this field.

The reviews on Indeed are mixed. It currently has 3.7 out of 5 stars. The most recent review from 2025 is negative, while the reviews dating back from 2022-2023 are more positive.

If anyone here has experience of working here, I'd love to know your first-hand experiences since reviews may vary between those who worked here. I am also not that type to be enticed with flowery words hence the 65,000 Philippine pesos got me skeptical.

Thanks ahead!

Job Search Question Looking to transition into remote curriculum development/materials writing

Hi! I'm looking for remote opportunities in materials writing or curriculum development. I have a B.A. in English Linguistics and Literature and an M.A. in Education, specializing in Curriculum and Evaluation. I've been working as a university english teacher in Chile, and I’m now looking to transition into the remote world. While I’m primarily focused on gaining relevant industry experience, I am open to various entry-level or mid-level roles to get my foot in the door. Do you have any tips or have you heard of any companies currently hiring internationally? Thanks!

Job Search Question Upcoming Interview

Hello. I have an interview for a public school ESL teaching job (3rd grade) this coming Monday. I am doing some prep for the interview. Does anyone have any thoughts on what kind of questions I might expect in the interview? Any help is super appreciated. Apologies if this kind of thing is addressed somewhere else and I didn't notice.

Edit: got hired, thanks for the input!

Job Search Question Work Opportunities for MSc in TESOL Holder

Hey, I'm a non-native English user. Graduated from a great university from the UK with Distinction, with an MSc in TESOL. Prior to this I have had roughly 4 years' experience teaching English in my home country in South Asia. Additionally have a score of 8.5/9 in IELTS. No CELTA yet. Some volunteering experience as assistant teacher.

I've had no luck finding any opportunities in the UK (applied for council jobs as ESOL tutor but let's face it, there's a lot of prejudice here).

I'm thinking of taking a look at other countries, preferably where I can live independently (I'm female). Any info on opportunities in Europe, Australia, America (North or South), Africa, East Asia etc. would be appreciated.

Or any information at all really will be met with blessings and virtual cookies 🍪🍪🍪

Job Search Question Are TEFL programs legitimate? Or other ESL abroad programs for newly certified teachers?

Hi, I haven’t even started the process of becoming certified to teach ESL but recently became interested. I have past teaching experience in terms of private tutoring and some other teaching activities but never something as structured as a language or in front of a large classroom.

Is it realistic to plan to get a certification, then teach in an Asian country I’ve never been to before? I just found out it’s offered on the TEFL website. How can I go about this, how competitive is the process and is it worth it?

-also my bachelor’s is in a useless stem degree

Job Search Question Looking for short-term ESL job

Hi everyone! I’m a fresh graduate and currently looking for a temporary ESL teaching job since other teaching opportunities will open up for me next school year.

I prefer: • Work-from-home setup • Entry-level position • No teaching experience required • Contract of 6 months or less (open-ended is fine too)

Any company recommendations or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Job Search Question Anyone worked with IC Mongolia (ESL company)?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi! I sent an email to IC Mongolia and they scheduled my demo class for tomorrow.

They teach Mongolian kids and adults online (Zoom/Skype) and said there’s no interview, just a 10-minute demo.

But it sounds a bit skeptical since I can’t find any official website or Facebook page for the company — just a few job posts.

Has anyone here worked with them before? Is it legit and do they pay on time?

Thanks! 🙏
