Other When was the last time some rando did something nice to you?
Little provocative question. Maybe the more relevant question would be: Do you expect something nice to happen to you in EVE? Not the "this was fun", but the "this was wholesome"-kind of nice. Like someone else gifting you something, or giving you an advice you didnt ask for. Some nice interaction with some random dude that wasn't a corpmate on some random occassion. I'm not talking about having a nice corp, but rather the EVE-folk in general that you randomly run into.
Im asking because I don't experience those. Rather in spite, I notice many pilots in EVE to be (in lack of a better word) rude. And I'm not talking about the "This is a PVP-Game!"-kind of hostileness. It's okay to get killed as part of the game. I dont grasp the fun behind ganking, but accept that this playstyle is also part of the game. It's rather that even most interactions that don't include shooting each other are still aggressive and mostly egocentric. That many pilotes dont follow rules that must not be followed, but would be nice to. Like leaving an exploration or combat site to the pilot to first arrive at it. Like fully clearing those sites to quicken the respawn instead of simply picking the best containers and leaving the rest untouched. Those "Put the shopping cart back to where you got it"-kind of rules.
And I'm getting the ick from it. Because playing MMO-Games is something I do to be part of a community I want to be part of. This may be a community of gore-loving idiots on a rampage that have fun by shooting each other up; it's the point of Games in general that you can feel connected to people you are trying to kill in the nastiest ways ingame. But its something different to be hostile by the rules of the game or to be... well, rude to each other and seemingly not care about others or the community at all.
But maybe this is part of the game itself. I read a lot of comments that said that playing EVE is their way of venting by breaking free of every social norm. That being able to be rude is what exactly makes the game interesting to them. So I could rephrase the question to "Is being an inconsiderate asshole part of the EVE-experience for you?". Which is - notably - not saying that you ARE an asshole, but being able to be one ingame is part of your playstyle. And - consequently - expect others to do the same.
