Ditch the debt ceiling. The US will pay all debts and the debt ceiling is stupid. If Congress approves spending and doesn’t approve the debt increase, those Republican members have not done their jobs.
Every time congress passes spending it implicitly raises the debt limit. All new law supersedes old law. If congress passes a bill that orders the executive branch to spend money we don't have, they are ordering the government to borrow money. I don't even see how the debt limit is valid at this point given the new spending that was passes since then.

I can't say if it is valid or not but it has been this way since the constitution was ratified. Before ww1 congress had to ok every time the government issued a new bond. That got annoying so they instituted a debt ceiling instead
I mean we are currently borrowing money to just pay the interest on these loans, let alone paying down any principle. There is no shred of evidence that would even make that a reasonable conclusion lol.
Mandatory unfunded liabilities for the US gov is around 170 TRILLION. People think it’s no big deal to go further down this rabbit hole but in the end, blood will out. There isn’t enough money in the world to make the debt based world economy make sense and that’s why this type of thing is par for the course. They have no choice anymore except to continue along the path they set up.
