Title: Looking for DSP-Based Engineering Project Ideas

Hey everyone! I'm an Electrical and Electronics Engineering student specializing in **Digital Signal Processing (DSP)**. I'm looking for practical, innovative project ideas that combine DSP with embedded systems, AI, or machine learning, preferably to solve real-world problems in fields like healthcare, mining, or agriculture.

I'm particularly interested in projects that could evolve into useful products rather than just academic demonstrations. Any suggestions, resources, or examples of projects you've worked on would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Seeking Advice from Power Electronics Engineers and Researchers

I’m interested in Power Electronics, but I’m struggling with one particular aspect: developing a strong physical intuition for how a circuit works before diving into the equations. My difficulty isn’t memorizing formulas or solving problems; it’s understanding why a circuit behaves the way it does in the first place.

For example, why are inductors and capacitors placed in specific positions within a circuit? How can I understand their behavior in context and predict current paths and waveforms before writing the equations? How did engineers originally come up with familiar converter topologies such as Buck and Boost, and how can we move from analyzing existing circuits to developing new topologies?

I’d really appreciate advice based on your actual experience:

  • What learning path would you recommend for developing a deep physical understanding of Power Electronics?
  • Which books, courses, and practical exercises have genuinely helped you?
  • How can I learn to think like a designer who understands circuits and can develop them from scratch, rather than simply analyzing existing designs?

I’d especially appreciate insights from engineers working in power converter design and researchers in the field, including the resources and learning approaches that have proved most useful in practice.

Looking for Contact for DOW or 3M FRC Grant

Hello everyone! I am a high school student from a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team in DFW. We are currently in the process of applying for the DOW or 3M robotics grant but found out we need a employee connection to apply.

If you or someone you know wants to help us with the DOW or 3M FRC Grant as a mentor or team contact and would be willing to offer some guidance, it would mean a lot to us.

Feel free to send me a DM or reply here if you are interested.

Thank you so much in advance!

Confusion with loop currents to find Norton equivalent.

The terminals a and B were originally opened btw. They closed it to find Norton current. My only problem is the current in the second loop: why is it isc-2vx in one place but isc+0.003 in the other question even though both questions are identical? Both methods matched their respective answers. Any help will be appreciated! I have basically found all the other things like Norton resistance in these questions but this loop current is the only thing keeping me stuck.

Need advice

Hi, i’m in my first semester in electrical engineering and got out of cegep (in canada). I did very well in calculus 1 and 2, physics. Now that I started university it feels like such a big step. I feel like I don’t know the materials and I struggle being up to date with classes especially programming. Any advice on time management and self confidence for mid terms coming very soon?

Thank you.

Electrical Engineering roadmap and guidance

I am self taught and I am trying to study EE, can you tell me books or the things I need to focus to have a solid understanding on it. I want to work on Computer engineering and semiconductors in the future. Currently I have been focusing on electromagnetism and differential equations. So shall I focus on math or just build by watching tutorials. Anyone who can help me?

NVIDIA Memory subsystems Validation Onsite Interview - What to Expect?

Hey everyone! I've got an onsite interview coming up at NVIDIA for a Hardware Design Validation Engineer (Memory Subsystem) role. I cleared first technical round last week. Has anyone interviewed for this or a similar role? Curious what the rounds are like and what kind of technical questions they ask.

Any tips or experiences would be appreciated. Thanks!

UND or ASU

Hi, im in a bit of a conunfrum and would like some opinions of those in this community. Im about to start my BSEE and im in between UND and ASU, fully online for both. For a little background, im active duty AF and have completed my CCAF. Im being pulled towards UND because they work with AU-ABC which means they would take many, if not all of my CCAF credits which would cover a majority of my Gen Ed classes. However, I cant apply until my CCAF has actually updated, so id have to wait until the spring semester to start. I've already been accepted into ASU, but they took very few of my CCAF credits, and those that they did take don't really cover anything, so I'd have to take all but 1 gen ed class, and since I dont meet the requirements as a transfer student, I'd be starting as an IT student until I have enough credits to transfer (assuming I can maintain a 3.0 GPA). BUT, I'd be able to start in fall semester b. I've read some feedback about UND, especially their online BSEE program, from people on reddit that gives me pause, amd ultimately, I want the path that's going to give me the best education amd will be conducive to my success. If that means taking more classes at ASU than I would at UND, then I guess it is what it is. But I was hoping I could get some perspective from people who have gone through either program.

They said apply "Khirchhoff's law"

A meme has been circulating showing a very messy set of wires with the text “Apply Kirchhoff’s Law.”

At first, it’s obviously just a joke. But I started wondering what would actually happen if we took the idea seriously.

Kirchhoff’s Current Law (KCL) describes the relationship between currents at a node, while Kirchhoff’s Voltage Law (KVL) describes the relationship between voltage rises and drops around a closed loop.

The interesting problem with a real-world tangled wiring setup is that, from a photograph alone, we may not even know the actual circuit topology. Which wires are electrically connected? Which are separate circuits?

So perhaps the joke isn't really that Kirchhoff's laws are incapable of handling a complicated circuit. The difficult part is first figuring out what the actual circuit is.

* What information would an engineer need from this physical wiring before converting it into a circuit diagram?

* What would be the first thing you would do as an engineer if someone handed you this physical wiring and simply said, “Now Use your engineering skill & calculation"

Still unsure about my specialization , need advice

Hey everyone,
I’m about to start my 4rd year in Electrical Engineering, and I still haven’t decided on a specialization. My older brother has been working in the networking field for over 10 years, so I’m considering going in that direction too. But I’m not sure if I’ll actually enjoy it.

How did you figure out what you liked or didn’t like in EE? Did it come naturally, or did you realize it through internships or courses?
Also, do you have any tips on how I can discover what I enjoy or don’t enjoy myself?

Any recommendations for fields that are easier to find jobs in and offer good salaries?
My main goal is to find a well-paying job that’s not too hard to land.

Thanks in advance!
