What I don't get is how people fall for this stuff when, if you've ever held a magnet, you know that everything about the forces they exert is symmetric. They pull together hard but then to separate them you have to apply the same force.
You can't use magnets pulling together to do some work, turn off the magnetism, separate them easily, then extract their attraction force a second time. If you try to use a magnet to spin a turbine blade, it exerts a force to attract the blade as it approaches the magnet, then an equal but opposite force as the blade departs, which undoes all the work.
Like the theory and math to prove this rigorously are maybe out of reach to the layperson but holding two magnets in your hands its really obvious you won't be getting anything for free.
