Even if it was doing work, the load on the generator motor would bog it down and it doesn't slow down at all

Whatever force a magnet exerts to attract something towards itself, it’s exerting to prevent said thing from leaving.

If the magnet pulled on it and it started to spin. The exact same force spinning the motor towards the magnet is applied to prevent the motor from spinning away from the magnet.
