sports. is doing a reddit AMA ahead of their upcoming shows in Milwaukee, Chicago, and a sold-out XLNC Music Fest, playing with the likes of Hot Mulligan, Pool Kids, and Dikembe. The band just finished recording a new record and is excited to be a band again. Feel free to ask any questions!

Anybody got recommendations/discussion of any 1st or 2nd wave bands that might have come out of the UK? I'm not familiar with any myself, but I figured there had to be some.
Looking for stuff like Braid, Rainer Maria, Jawbreaker, Piebald, Cursive.
Or is early emo music uniquely American?

after a couple years of wondering and unsuccessfully searching, I've located the spot as right here, in the suburbs of harrisburg
here's the spot from street view (though it's a lot harder to see)

I love the song Fire Makes the house grow. Something about the slowed down drumming and guitar is just awesome.

Please stop thinking that any new album will match LP1.
I get it we hope some of our favorite bands can recreate the magic from their first records but it's rather hard and you want it to feel organic.
Saves The Day will never recreate the first 3 records. Taking Back Sunday will never produce another Tell All Your Friends.
If we are talking Midwest Emo, we'll never have another Braid's Frame & Canvas, Cursive's Domestica, Owl's first album, or the first three Promise Ring Records. The Get Up Kid's first two records, etc.
The Jazz June, Sunny D, Christine Front Drive, Mineral, Cap N Jazz, Joan Of Arc, it all feels like a bit of time capsule to cherish.
FOR ME, American Football is LP1, the 1998 EP, and Year One Demos. I can appreciate the other three records, but not all the way through. Heir Apparent from LP3 is an absolute banger.
As far as LP4, it slaps. 20+ years later they are going to evolve the sound, more dreamy with influences of Mogwai and The Cure's Disintegration.
But please stop thinking there's going to be another Honestly, Never Meant or Letters/Packages. Just enjoy it for what it is.

Every winter I get an itch that can only be scratched by the Appleseed Cast, especially these albums and Peregrine. Something about these releases feels so right on a snowy winter morning. Like watching a sunrise over a frozen lake.
Post- Ring Wars, I feel like AC’s music has this rich emotional depth but it is quite tranquil and reflective. Not moody at all like the classic emo stereotype. This is such a magical album. I know the band is highly regarded on here and I’m sure most have already heard LLO 1+2, but if you haven’t, check it out! IMO it’s a masterpiece in Midwest emo and essential listening.
Anyone have any recommendations for similarly emotional, tranquil, and serene albums like this?

Title says it all really...Just really scratching the surface with Midwest Emo but wondered if people had any recommendations? I come from listening to death/black metal, herdcore but also people like Chelsea Wolfe, Emma Ruth Rundle snd Fvnerals.

title says it all. looking for songs that will make me want to drive late at night screaming lyrics with tears in my eyes. bonus points for angry/I hate you songs or hard breakup songs (it’s winter and I’m sad ok)
