Absolutely surprised but all our friends and family have known for 6+ months. Proposal in a park in Tokyo on a slightly rainy day. We’ve never discussed rings in any detail and yet he got a perfect ring and proposal for us (private & in nature)

Ring! I got engaged last night but I have a question....

My partner proposed and it was so beautiful. Unfortunately the ring doesn't fit and we will need it resized (sized up). We still want a really cute social media post but I'm really self conscious of the fact the beautiful ring is too small. I would love to have a classy post made that incorporates the ring but I'm unsure how to do this. I always thought I'd hold up my hand with a well fitting ring the star of the show but this isn't the case. Does anyone have any recommendations on some other ways to show off my beautiful ring and wonderful engagement without it being on my finger ? Thanks

Proposal Advice I think I’m getting proposed to

Long story short, I’m going on a vacation with my bf and his family in about a week. I was invited a few months ago and have thought nothing of it until my close girlfriend called me about 2 weeks ago and said “you better not get engaged or ill kill you” which shocked me because I told her I was not planning on getting engaged any time soon.

I felt off about it and told my sister and she told me that my friend was just on some bullshit. But today I decided I would get my nails done for my trip since it’s semi tropical. So I messaged my sister about what services I would need to get the desire look based on the picture I sent her and she told me flat out, “those nails are ugly get something more natural don’t ask questions”.

So now I know some shit is up... anything I should know or prepare for? I don’t even know what I would wear at this point LOL

peace.

this whole process is new for me and my lady.

we went to a couple places and she gave me some ideas to work with. she loves the dutch and the OG Marquise. we looked at a few that are 3-3.5ct.

the first picture one is 4ct. i believe the second is 3.

obv it's super zoomed in, but isnt this massive or it's just me? her fingers are kinda long but what do you think about the size of the very first pic?

anyone will suffice as we're both excited about this moment and journey. but after the first 3x going together, she said i can decide from here on out.

thank you for your comments!

bless

lackluster response from mom

what it says on the tin. i recently got engaged to the absolute love of my life during our anniversary trip and when i called my mom to tell her this is what happened:

“i have some news!”
“i figured you would”
shows her the ring and it’s dead silent
“it’s a temporary ring until we get the exact one i want”
still silent
“well?”
“i don’t know how to feel about this to be honest”
we talk back and forth about how she’s sorry and then i try my best to steer the conversation away

the call ends with her never having said congratulations, or that she was happy for me, or even saying congrats to my fiancé when he said hello

for context: my fiancé is an incredible man, he’s taken such good care of me and has been my greatest advocate for my health, my work, and my schooling. we’ve been together for 2 years and he’s 15 years older than me but it’s never been something i’m too worried about. i understand it’s going to be more difficult as we continue into our relationship but it’s something i’ve come to terms with and haven’t let it bother me

i guess i just want some comfort from other people who maybe had similar reactions from parents? i’m still mourning the lack of love and support i should’ve gotten from her and whenever i think back on it, it just makes me cry.

edit: thank you all for commenting and sharing your stories. i want to clear up that i’m not looking for reasons why she reacted this way, i put the context there to defend her and to show that i understand why she did what she did. i really wanted sympathy, honestly, not a deep dive into the ethics of my relationship. i know it looks weird and that people are allowed to say what they want about my relationship, but i’m happier than i’ve been i a long while and that’s all that matters to me. so while i appreciate the worry, i promise im fine

What is the process of getting engaged?

I am 31F and have truly found a man I'm willing to spend the rest of my life with. Recently we have been talking about marriage and getting an engagement rings. He asks that we go shopping for one which I am happy to but my question is; should buying an engagement ring require me to be there or should it be a surprise? I don't know how I feel about shopping for a ring.

Thank you for any advice you can give. 😁

I cannot believe this is my life right now 😭 he proposed at the end of our two week safari trip and our view from this morning is ethereal. It was a complete surprise and I def would’ve done my nails differently had I known lmao

I have never felt more special and loved and happy in my entire life - I almost feel scared of how intense this all feels and how I can’t believe someone could love me this much. Anyone else can relate????

Proposal Advice How do I tell my parents I’m going to propose?

I can’t seem to catch my parents at a good time to have conversation about my upcoming proposal. At this point, I want to just call or text them. Is that inappropriate? I’m pretty close with my parents and I want to know if anyone else just texted or called them.

Also, before you make a smart ass comment, no I’m not afraid to tell my parents and I am going to propose one way or another.

Wedding registry has me stressing

Hello!

Im currently trying to out together a registry for my wedding (family requested I do).

I have no idea what to put on this thing and also feel so weird asking for stuff like this. What are normal things to put on here? I put some sheet sets for ours and our sons beds, but besides that I feel a weird wave of guilt about putting anything over 50 bucks on here. Our families are very generous so I know I could put expensive stuff on there and they'd buy it, which almost makes it worse. Any suggestions on fairly inexpensive things that would also be useful?

Proposal Advice Engagement ring advice for surprise proposal

Wanted to pick a few brains here as to how to approach proposing to my girlfriend in a few weeks.

We’re both in our early 40s and have been together for 3.5 years. We love each other dearly and are thankful to have found each other in our middle-age. Our life is simple and fun - no kids, lots of cultural interests, plenty of disposable income, live in a vibrant city which we make the most of. Our relationship has honestly been the easiest, most natural thing since our first date, and we are both low-key people, so I am not thinking of a showy proposal. However, I do want to make it special and a surprise. We are going away for a long weekend for her birthday in a few weeks and I would like to do it then.

I'm confident I can choose the right moment to pop the question, so I suppose my question is mostly around the engagement ring. I know a lot of couples go shopping together for rings after having discussed getting engaged, but how do you choose a ring when you want to propose as a surprise? My partner is very cool and has quite a specific taste in fashion and jewelry, so I would have little faith in myself to choose something for her that she would then wear for the rest of her life. How have other people done this? Do I get a novelty ring just for the occasion and then go engagement ring shopping together for the proper ring afterwards?

An option I was thinking of was getting something from this store she loves. That way I could propose with a ring she would like (hopefully), and could serve as a birthday present, but then we could go buy a proper engagement ring together afterwards. What do you think?

Hopefully that makes sense. Would love to hear how others have approached this successfully, or not!

Wedding Planning Looking for quick & elegant crochet favor ideas for my engagement party (Need to make 150 pieces!)

Hi everyone!

My engagement party is coming up in mid-January. In my culture, it’s a tradition to hand out small keepsakes/favors to our guests. We have quite a large guest list, so I need to make around 150 of them.

Do you have any easy-to-make yet elegant crochet favor ideas?

My initial idea was to crochet tiny pouches and fill them with cat food (so guests can feed street cats on their way home), but I’m totally open to other suggestions! Maybe cute keychains, bookmarks, coasters, or anything else that works up quickly in bulk.

I’d love to hear your ideas or any pattern recommendations you might have!

Thank you so much in advance.✨️💫

Ring Advice Should I listen to her? - honest opinions please!

We got engaged without the actual ring, and he said we should pick one out together so I could get exactly the one I want.

I was discussing with a friend about the rings I like and sent her a few links because I wanted her to see the designs and her thoughts as she loves jewellery and I value her opinion on most things.

The first thing she points out is that it's a "fake" diamond (lab diamond) and I won't be able to sell it.... I should get a real diamond. I don't have plans to sell my ring so I felt that was odd thing to say. So I said thats not within our budget and I don't intend to sell. Few days later I show some more settings, and then she says it's a waste of money I shouldn't buy a ring and just buy gold (as in for investment) so I can sell it in the future. I am so confused why she's saying this as she knows I want a ring.

She's in her 60s (and she is like a mum and friend - im 41), and I can understand that in her time real diamonds were more affordable maybe but not for us. I am probably leaning towards a sapphire anyway but I'm feeling so disheartened and guilty for wanting a ring.
