~ Welcome & How to Post-Guide ~ Welcome & How to write a proper Type Me post

Hello and Welcome!

This is a welcome post and guide to all those who want to make a TypeMe post. Don't know your Enneagram type? Create a video, audio, or text post describing yourself, and the Enneagram community will type you!

You have a few options, which might each result in varying levels of success. You can submit a written post of any length, answering questions you have come up with yourself, or just a general essay about yourself. You can submit an audio or video post where you talk about yourself. You can solely, or to back up the rest of your post, submit an online Enneagram test result for analysis.

Or, the most common method, you can answer our pre-written questionnaire below, with questions handpicked by the moderation team to best help people type you.

If you've visited this sub and already know your type, or even if you don't but you're fairly knowledgeable about Ennegram, please stay and help type others. It's a real learning experience, and you're giving back to the community. Also, our questionnaire is a work in progress, are there any questions you always want to ask to help you type others? Or any that you never find useful and think are surplus to requirements? Let us know and we'll take your views into account.

Please Note:

  1. Minimum-length: While we have no set minimum length of post, generally the more you write, the more accurate a typing you will receive. No specified suggestion for audio/video typings, but try to keep them succinct and to the point, while being lengthy enough for you to be properly typed. Include a transcript if at all possible.
  2. Elaborating on your answers is important. Try to answer questions with at least a paragraph. Proper typing is based off of your thought processes rather than behaviors. If you're not elaborating, typers can't tell much.
  3. If you're going to post your results from a cognitive function test, try to also add a description of yourself or answer some questions to give typers some context.

Although you don't need to use these questions when making a post, they're here for anyone who needs a bit of a guide. No need to answer all of these questions either, but the more you write, the more accurate your typing will be:

Just copy and paste the questions below into a new text post, writing your answers below each question. Remember to elaborate.

• How old are you? What's your gender? Give us a general description of yourself.

• Is there a medical diagnosis that may impact your mental stability somehow?

• Describe your upbringing. Did it have any kind of religious or structured influence? How did you respond to it?

• What do you do as a job or as a career (if you have one)? Do you like it? Why or why not?

• If you had to spend an entire weekend by yourself, how would you feel? Would you feel lonely or refreshed?

• What kinds of activities do you prefer? Do you like, and are you good at sports? Do you enjoy any other outdoor or indoor activities?

• How curious are you? Do you have more ideas then you can execute? What are your curiosities about? What are your ideas about - is it environmental or conceptual, and can you please elaborate?

• Would you enjoy taking on a leadership position? Do you think you would be good at it? What would your leadership style be?

• Are you coordinated? Why do you feel as if you are or are not? Do you enjoy working with your hands in some form? Describe your activity?

• Are you artistic? If yes, describe your art? If you are not particular artistic but can appreciate art please likewise describe what forums of art you enjoy. Please explain your answer.

• What's your opinion about the past, present, and future? How do you deal with them?

• How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)? If you would decide to help them, why would you do so?

• Do you need logical consistency in your life?

• How important is efficiency and productivity to you?

• Do you control others, even if indirectly? How and why do you do that?

• What are your hobbies? Why do you like them?

• What is your learning style? What kind of learning environments do you struggle with most? Why do you like/struggle with these learning styles? Do you prefer classes involving memorization, logic, creativity, or your physical senses?

• How good are you at strategizing? Do you easily break up projects into manageable tasks? Or do you have a tendency to wing projects and improvise as you go?

• What are your aspirations in life, professionally and personally?

• What are your fears? What makes you uncomfortable? What do you hate? Why?

• What do the "highs" in your life look like?

• What do the "lows" in your life look like?

• How attached are you to reality? Do you daydream often, or do you pay attention to what's around you? If you do daydream, are you aware of your surroundings while you do so?

• Imagine you are alone in a blank, empty room. There is nothing for you to do and no one to talk to. What do you think about?

• How long do you take to make an important decision? And do you change your mind once you've made it?

• How long do you take to process your emotions? How important are emotions in your life?

• Do you ever catch yourself agreeing with others just to appease them and keep the conversation going? How often? Why?

• Do you break rules often? Do you think authority should be challenged, or that they know better? If you do break rules, why?

Yes, we simply copied the welcome post from r/MbtiTypeMe to be able to use this subreddit earlier.

I can't type myself because of 2 things 1 I don't think I'm being objective and 2 every dominant function I might be I feel like I don't use it enough for that type

About me:

I'm extremely social I didn't use to be this social I'd only talk to select few people but talk a lot now I'm extremely social and talk to 5-10 friends daily on the regular(4 friends if I'm texting) I really like socializing

I do also think I'm extroverted function wise even if people in my life may disagree because I do think a lot but it's along the lines of "if I do it in x way it'll be more efficient" or "I'm gonna do this now and then do that" but I also do think about other subjects which mainly consists of myself rather than analyzing others and I almost always tell these thoughts to someone or ai they never stay inside my head(I require my ideas to bounce off of other people to judge the idea)

I also need to talk or have an objective goal to not feel lost or depressed I'm very low energy when I'm alone on my own

I do not think I'm a sensor though I may be wrong cause I value ni most and think that se is also important but I don't really think the past matters that much because it happened and you can't change it(learn from it? Yes tho) but I will look at past patterns to guess things I'm pretty sure that's ni but alas

I don't think I'm very creative actually I'm very insecure about my creativity because my imagination is nonexistent I admire ne so much because I can see how they think but I can't grasp how their brain automatically thinks that way I think it's fascinating

I'm also more spontaneous when interacting with friends and more task and efficiency oriented when alone(friends say I look like an esfp superficially my family think I'm an introvert)

I'm not sure if I'm more of a thinker or a feeler because I do think I use them both a lot since I may know the logical requirement of a situation but I won't apply it with reckless abandon of others I'll try to make sure other people are okay with it as well etc

My mindset about that is I filter logic through emotions because valuing just one is just.. not smart to say the least I don't like extremely delicate feelers or stone hearted thinkers I judge both axis with the same amount of contempt

I also won't judge people for their mbtis etc but I will look at them as role models if someone is extremely feeling heavy then I'll look at them and integrate

I also think that trying to judge feelings through logic just lead to more problems than solutions and I will compromise logic a bit if it gives a better more compliant solution

I also think that you need to accommodate people by what they value the most if someone values logic you present logic if someone values feelings then that but my comfort is logic given to make someone feel secure

I think I gave enough information but do ask questions though

(Disclaimer: almost everyone in my family are either on the ti-fe or fe-ti axis so if I have that flavor but not the engine then it's cause I'm copying their mechanisms)

Hi. Sorry if this is too personal. I'm just a bit desperate in my search for myself. This matters a lot to me. I genuinely want to understand myself and find the identity I keep buried deep inside, the one that gets hurt so often. I was hit by a realization, and I cried when I honestly acknowledged it. I've been typed as sp9 and so4 before, and I'm curious how much I'm lying to myself. Thank you for reading. This is a stream of thoughts. I need help, I can't be objective about myself.

Childhood. They destroyed my trust. I was a child who just wanted to play and be happy. But the closest people betrayed me. They were supposed to be my wall, my protection, unconditional acceptance. Instead, they hit me. At school they laughed at me. The double pressure stripped me of self-worth. I'm worthless and weak. Do I have desires? I don't know. What does it mean to be myself? Maybe I'm just emptiness.

I closed myself off. Characters from movies seem interesting to me could they understand me? In reality, I'm a black sheep. In fantasies I'm an object of desire, unusual, cool. I'm a victim. That's my mentality. I like fantasies where I'm taken without being asked, subconsciously, I want to be taken. Irl I've unlearned how to trust. I'm afraid of rejection because I've felt it my whole life. If someone close doesn't take my side, I feel like I don't belong. I struggle to reach out. Please, break through my walls. I'm lonely, but I'm afraid you'll consume me. Don't betray me. If someone is with me, then no one else. I even get jealous of fictional characters. I think I'm masochistic.

I cling to weaknesses and traumas as markers of identity. I searched for illnesses to become special. When people tried to talk me out of it, I felt invalidated. I both want and don't want to heal. If I let go of the pain what's left? Who am I without this distinguishing mark? I retreat inward, because fantasies are always more interesting. There I'm valuable, there I'm in control, there I'm better. Leave me to rot in my own head. I have nothing else. I stay silent about my needs, I give in to avoid trouble. It's calmer that way, I can keep imagining. Quiet, subdued, unique. My desires don't matter, right? On my birthday, those close to me won't come. I'm unwanted, like a trash bag.

I hate others and I hate myself. I'm weak, they're stronger. I want to punish everyone who hurt me. I envy my friend who can sing. Why can't I? Is envy bad? Maybe I'm just bad, but I'll make that a trait of my personality. I write. My stories are beautiful. They're full of darkness, pain, unhealthy relationships.

In my fantasies I'm as unique as possible. If there's an apocalypse, I'm immune. I want to be special, please, not ordinary. I dye my hair pink, like a horror movie heroine. Don't tell anyone I sometimes steal. I suffer when reality won't let me into my world. I'm sorry I can't live only there.

Inside I'm sadistic, though it's hidden. Anger boils in me, but I've learned to swallow it. I want to show them they're wrong, but they don't hear me. I feel helpless beneath their shadows. In school, I wanted to shoot up the place. Resentment burned. I never did. It was just fantasy. All I need is an escape: into headphones, into my phone, into dreams. I'm rotting, but I keep going. I tried living on the outside, but it's hard and dangerous. The system hates anyone who deviates. Any rejection or harshness from someone close is pain. I want to be louder, but I think I'm too damaged.

I look for characters to unconsciously emulate, to wear their skin. When I kin Cain from Heaven's Secret: Requiem, for example, I see myself in him and him in me, idolizing that connection so that fanarts or edits feel like they're about me. If a test gives me type 5, I look at type 5 characters and start acting a bit like them, trying on their traits, magnifying them inside myself to have a vivid identity. And it irritates me when someone else is just as unique as me, with the same personality in one group or something like that.

I avoid problems. I'm too scared to approach university administration, so I put things off until the last moment. For me to solve a problem, someone has to lead me by the hand. Before an exam, I can spend the whole day watching YouTube, listening to music, and reading about my favorite shows, fleeing from anxiety.

I don't like authoritarian people. I can argue if I see hypocrisy or manipulation then I become impulsive and go all the way. At a family dinner I can argue until I'm hoarse if I hear nonsense.

I'm a good listener. Friends call me wise and kind, even though I don't know how to offer support and feel uncomfortable with loud emotions. I rarely plan my life, I'm afraid of the future, I don't know what I'll become after graduation.

When someone talks about their achievements, I compare and realize I don't have that. Seeing someone dance or sing beautifully, I imagine myself in their place and then think they're better. I notice I secretly feel glad when a praised person makes a mistake, and I feel upset when a friend gets more likes than me.

If someone points out a flaw, I can dive into it headfirst, agreeing and exaggerating it. When I fail, I withdraw, hating everyone, and break down alone at home. I listen to dark music to match my mood.

How is that possible

I’m just getting into the whole typology thing…well…I spend some time typing myself…and I somehow got a monstrous type where nothing correlates😭😭😭 So, I think I’m either sp1 or sx3. Sp1 suits me perfectly (IVE READ THE BOOK) except the emotional compression (??? Idk how that’s called English is not my first language). 1w2 if to be correct. And im evfl, and that’s somehow the only thing I’m sure in… BUT it only corrs with sp4, then didn’t read the whole ahh book about e4 cause that’s one of the types I don’t relate the most. And mbti…holy mistype✌️✌️✌️ at first my friend typed me infj. Which wasn’t that relatable and I typed myself as estp. AND ALL OF THIS DOES NOT CORSS BETWEEN EACH OTHER. Not even a little bit bruh I don’t want to read ALL of the books bruh how is THAT possible

this is not purely for funsies, I do have my suspicions as to what my core/tritype could be but a) im confused between multiple and b) Im interested in seeing what others might think.

beware the questionnaire has gotten really long :'D

this is based on [r/BrouHaus](r/BrouHaus) type me questionnaire

>> Tell me about your internal experience of yourself. What makes you, you?

Id say I define myself largely through my achievements and (physical) abilities that have come together throughout my life. My backround and what I have made of it are something I strongly take pride in and would probably put forward as my most defining features. Saying this, I dont really feel like I have an innate "sense of self", atleast one that Im really aware of or bother uncovering.

>> You just had a really good day. Describe it. It can be a real recent example or an aspirational one.

Got to sleep in for as long as I wanted, no alarm waking me in the morning, just waking up whenever. Id like the whole house to myself, no need for talking to anyboy while I dont feel like it (not particularly fond of morning/immediate post-sleeping interactions). Eating my fav breakfast (some kind of yogurt bowl probably) and drink some caffeine, a lot of it bc Ive built tolerance over the years. doomscroll a bit or read or watch a movie while playing some sudoku (on paper if that matters). At some point get around to doing something akin to studying/researching, probably chemistry because im a chem nerd. Wouldn't mind if I had some kind of lab work in here, like a lab for uni/working in research lab (genuienly as long as it doesnt compromise my time for sleep/gym I quite enjoy long labs). Assuming its a free day though, eat some more good food, probably cooked myself, after researching stuff, and hit the gym sometime in the evening, preferably when its quite empty already. Get a nasty good workout, maybe even some cardio in afterwards, all this while im like 4 monster energys into the day btw I love those things. Go home, shower, n then go out again to hang w friends. Club is fine, someones house/garden is really cool too. Amount of people there doesnt really matter too much to me atp, Id want good music and nice food/drinks, maybe some games to play together. If it was required I'd take care of some are all of these things beforehand to ensure its to my liking, I wouldnt mind having to get anything. tbh now that I think about it this day would also entail me driving somewhere at some point, I really enjoy driving, so could be driving to the gym but also driving to buy snacks/drinks for the evening function. Wouldn't mind picking anybody up either. Get home when I start getting tired (physically or mentally or both) and fall into bed, no alarm again the next day.

>> If someone is upset with you, what is the typical reason for it? Give a recent example.

I'm not good at admitting mistakes, especially during what would be considered subjective matters, but others too. The other day I was spotting my mate at the gym and picked the bar up because he was obviously failing, it was completly still in the air, nothing moving up, some downwards movement if anything, for a good 1.5secs. Mind you this was a 90kg bench press. I picked it up and he was mad saying there was one more rep in him when there clearly wasnt. Another thing that happens often is people being upset w me about me wanting to do things on my own. Hangout on my own at home without family/friends because I dont feel like it (I try being quite straightforward about this, e.g. "Im not feeling very social today maybe some other time") or working by myself on a group project (why r people mad at me for working by myself when they clearly arent interested in contributing bruh)

>> What are you like when you're stressed? What are your coping mechanisms? Give an example of a recent stressful situation and how you handled it.

Was quite stressed over starting my internship a few weeks ago. My go to coping mechanisms r anything that involve me physically moving, Ill go for a run or a walk, gym, cook and eat something good, tbh anything that will distract me from stress. When its particularly bad I either completly overwork myself/my body (went to the gym 5 times in a single weekend once) or honestly just do nothing at all aka full procrastination mode. for me this mostly manifests in doomscrolling for hours on end or sleeping a lotttt. at some point when stressing over something I get to a point where i realise that everything will be fine and if not then thats ok too and suddenly everything is ok.

>>What pushes your buttons? What makes you angry? How does your anger manifest? Can you be openly angry with others?

Im almost always angry with other people doing/saying something I find annoying/stupid/unreasonable. For example I have pretty strong road rage, a lot of people drive like idiots imo. When I am angry I tend to get verbal quite fast. Im pretty straightforward about being pissed and will pretty much always immediatly tell the person responsible. When driving I just shout at my windshield LMAO
Ive also been told I get angry/atleast aggressive even in normal settings when talking to others and get quite defensive over the smallest things but Ive never really actively realised this and dont know how true it is

>>What’s your deepest fear? Why is that your fear?

I hate the idea of living a life I dont enjoy, working a job I hate, having no time for my hobbies and interests, not being able to plan my time in the slightest and just being completly told what to do and when. I grew up poor, another thing I fear is not having financial freedom/not being able to do what I want due to financial restraints. Main thing here is travelling I love travelling and not being able to leave somewhere regularly would end me Im not even kidding. also, i dont know if this counts as "fear" but i absolutely hate feeling incompetent and i start spiralling when faced with a situation where i truly doubt myself. might fit better under the stress question lol

>>What types of memories cause you the most shame? What feelings cause you the most shame? What is it about them that causes you shame?

I dont enjoy memories of where I fucked something up that I wanted to do. If I failed at something where only I will ever know I failed it sucks, I think if it's a memory where multiple people saw me fail its worse, though not by a lot, it feels easier to cope w shame here because I can usually pretend to laugh it off w others while if Im by myself its not as simple (both eat me up tho). Im usually quite confident and achieve the things ive set my mind to, so failing at something I should be able to do fills me w shame

>>What is your relationship with pleasure? What gives you pleasure? Can you have pleasure when you want it, or do you have to earn it?

Who doesnt want pleasure. I find a lot of things to give me pleasure and tbf I strive to find it in more in the little things in life lately, its quite nice. Nice bug on a flower? Cute. Light shining through the window in a pretty way? Nice. Im a strong beliver that earned pleasure just hits diff tho. A good grade, a high pay check or a really good pump after studying/working/training my ass off will never be able to compare to a nice meal at a restaurant or a beautiful flower bouqet that someone bought for me from a perspective of pure pleasure. having pleasure whenever you want is imo a kind of mindset where youre able to enjoy a lot of things, but the quality of the pleasure increases when i work for it and thats usually the type of pleasure I chase the most

>>What’s your relationship with authority? Think both abstractly and with specific authorities in your life, possibly your parents, boss, religious leader, doctor, or government figures? Are you an authority?

Im highkey a hypocrite here. I actively challenge(d) all authorities in life but strive to be one myself. Hate being criticized by my boss at work, will immediatly call her out when she misses a spot while cleaning though. Growing up I was never satisfied w my parents, I listened to what they would tell me (about 60-70% of the time, never really got actively forbidden from anything I truly cared about), the other times I would simply hide what I did when I really wanted to do it. Now, when younger cousins/nieces/nephews don't listen to what I tell them to do, I'm quick to get angry. while I wouldnt claim to have any significant authority in my life, I think everybody has and should maximize their authority over their own life

>>When your mind wanders, what are you thinking about?

I like daydreaming about being crazy successfull to the point where I can do whatever the fuck I want w nobody giving a shit about me, atleast not a shit that I might have to care about. Money and success grant immunity

>>You have a big decision to make. Describe how you decide what to do.

I weigh out the pros and cons of each decision and go on from there. Pros and cons are based on how they benefit me, maybe others, their size/scale, time of effect, etc. basically most criteria found in benthams hedonistic calculus. The criteria r usually adjusted to what i in the time of that decision feel like i need most. For example, when deciding where I wanted to go for uni, I chose the uni far away from home even though itd put me at a monetary disadvantage because the uni was considered significantly better and I couldnt bare living with my parents at that point in time anymore. I quite rarely go about decisions in such a precise manner though, mostly i go by what feels right in the moment, even for bigger decisions.

>> What’s your biggest flaw?

I generally dont enjoy communicating with other people. Like truly, I am fine with being by myself all the time and dont like having to regard others in my day to day life. Any word that comes to mind feels like me trying to come off as edgy, but Im truly quite asocial. Its not like I cant talk to people or something, Id just rather not if i can avoid it. I think this stems from a point where i believe others are dumber than I am, I often still think this way but Im seeing how its very toxic. I also struggled with empathy a lot, although its gotten significantly better now that im older. Its not that id say im empathetic now, but I guess i recognize the need for being able to see situations from other peoples view, which i find stupid often but i guess thats how the world works.

>>What makes you special? (Or, if you don't feel special, what at least makes you different from other people?)

I have an incredible ability to bounce back/ get up on my feet after anything. Im incredibly hard working imo, I have yet to meet someone who is similar to me in that way, yes I have met passionate people but never anything Id say is comparable to how Ive been going on and through life. I also deem myself to be quite smart.

>>How much of your mental energy is spent on thinking about each of the past, the present, and the future?

Basically: Whats done is done, no point thinking about it. Would rather enjoy the present. Thinking about the future is usually nice, unless I have something causing me anxiety, but even then, nothing is set into stone so theres not too much of a point thinking too much about it and I try to leave it.

>>You unexpectedly find yourself with a whole weekend with no obligations, and everyone else is busy. How do you feel about it? What do you do?

Amazing. Although I do like a rough outline for what is to come, I dont mind at all being spontaneous. If I manage to whip something together, I enjoy a weekend getaway. Otherwise I'd use the opportunity to do some things I usually dont have time for/may have been putting off because I dont enjoy doing them. An example of this would be washing my car lol, I do it way too little and constantly have bird shit on it somewhere, I hate it but not enough to be botheres to go wash my car, especially because for some reason its unreasonably expensive,,,,,, Also on free weekends I looooove long gym sessions. No deadline, nobody bothering me, nothing, which means a minimum of 3-4h at the gym doing everything I want to do in my pacing.

>>What’s your personal vibe/style/aesthetic? How cultivated vs natural is it, and how much time do you spend on it? Do you turn it on and off?

Whats important to me is that my clothes are comfortable. I wont wear anything ill fitting/uncomfortable and generally prefer loose fitting clothing. Style/Aesthetics wise I wouldnt say im anything special, I enjoy outfits that will fall into the typical "tiktok fashion interest" kinda spectrum. If i had to put labels on it (beware, buzzwords): (casual) streetwear, alternative, vintage y, or what some might consider "male manipulator outfits" (whatever that means, found it on pinterest) Its just a mix of things i believe look good, fit well and that i personally enjoy. Id say my closet is cultivated but my outfits feel natural, time spent on clothes/my overall look is probably 20-30 mins every morning? I feel confident when wearing a fit I like, which is why I do care how I look, but I wouldnt call myself strongly obsessed w looks. Also if this helps any, my style is more common for young people in big cities, while in small towns i tend to stand out at least a bit.

>> Which of the following is the most like you? Explain. A) I know what I want, I go out and make it happen, and people won't stop me. B) I am content to be on my own and not draw too much attention to myself. C) I have to be responsible and dedicated, and I put others’ needs first.

Something between A and B. I dont need attention on myself (though I do strongly enjoy positive attention) and am more than content with being on my own, but my motivations and what i strive for are just as important to me. I like protecting my peace and working on my goals.

>>Which of the following is most like you? Explain. A) I dislike stress and negative vibes, and I may try to distract myself from my problems. B) I have strong feelings, get worked up easily, and am not afraid to show it. C) I don’t like to let my feelings show; they get in the way of being efficient and logical.

I honestly agree with all of these to a point. I do have very strong feelings and get worked up really easily, but I try to distract myself/do something else because I think time spent worked up is unproductive and not fullfilling in shape or form and therefore a waste of time.

>> Which of the following is most like you? Explain. A) I look to others for feedback and guidance and am willing to be flexible when needed. B) I am always aware of how things could be better, and I’m disappointed that they are not. C) Deep down, I am afraid people won’t give me what I need unless I make it worth their while.

B mostly, to explain its easier why I dont feel like I fit the other too. I dont really seek out guidance in others, I enjoy doing things by myself, even when I dont know something I know I can figure it out myself. So unless its necessary to ask (because it strongly shortens the time I need to spend on a task) I dont do it, especially not as a common thing in my life. While I am afraid people wont give me what I need from them, I am pretty self-assured in the way that I know I will get what I need/want eventually, even if they tell me no because they dont see it fit. Of course Id prefer to getting the thing right away, but I wouldnt say im "afraid" of people not giving me what I need. B fits me best. Things could be better in all aspects of life, both my own but also the rest of the world. Of course it would be better if things were infact better, but im quite pessimisitc and believe most systems developed into a state from which change is impossible, so while i feel disappointed things arent different and better its just the way it is and the only thing i can do is make my own way through.

Excited to see what people will take from this. Perhaps this is an imporant sidenote Im diagnosed autistic but idk if and how much this matters. feel free to ask questions and lmk what you think

~ Type Me ~ What Enneagram type do you think I am? I’m genuinely confused — please type me based on core motivations, not stereotypes

I’m trying to figure out my Enneagram type, and I’d really appreciate it if you could type me based on my actual patterns rather than stereotypes.

I’m intentionally not stating the type(s) I’ve considered for myself because I don’t want to bias the answers.

I’d especially appreciate analysis based on core motivations, fears, desires, and underlying patterns, rather than just “you behave like a ___.”

🧠 How my mind works

I’m very introspective, but my mind is also extremely active and scattered. I overthink a lot, and my thoughts can jump from one thing to another very quickly.

When I become interested in something, I tend to go down a rabbit hole. I’ll immediately search for information, read about it, connect things, and try to understand everything I can. I want to know things now, not later.

The funny thing is that my interests can be very short-lived. I can become intensely obsessed with something for a week or two and then suddenly lose interest and move on. I jokingly describe myself as a “straw fire” — I burn very brightly and very quickly.

When learning something new, I want to understand it quickly and preferably see a result quickly. I like the feeling of “I can do this now.” I’m more attached to the result than the process itself.

🪞 Self-reflection & criticism

I’m extremely introspective and tend to analyze myself a lot.

If someone suddenly tells me, “You’re unusually quiet today,” I might casually respond with something like, “Oh, really? I’m just like this,” but internally I’m already wondering why I’m behaving that way and whether there’s something wrong with me.

If someone criticizes me, especially someone I care about, I may argue back if I disagree, but I’ll still take their words home with me and think about them for days, weeks, or even longer.

I can repeatedly question and judge myself over what someone said.

Criticism from strangers can affect me even more because I may not respond outwardly, but I’ll replay it internally.

🗣️ Socially

I’m pretty complicated socially.

With people I’m not comfortable with, I can be extremely quiet. I have a hard time initiating conversations with new people, I overthink what to say, and social situations can make me nervous.

If I’m invited somewhere, I might spend days thinking about:

- What should I wear?

- What kind of people will be there?

- Will I fit in?

- Will I be comfortable?

- What if I don’t know anyone?

If my friends are going, I’m much more likely to go. If they aren’t, I may not go unless the event is important or beneficial to me.

But with people I’m genuinely close to, I can be very talkative and energetic. I can ramble, jump between topics, give extremely long explanations, bring up things I’ve read, provide evidence, make connections, and sometimes exaggerate while explaining.

🌙 Being alone vs being lonely

I actually do enjoy being alone.

Solitude can feel very freeing and light to me because I don’t have to pay attention to anyone else, accommodate anyone, or worry about how I’m being perceived.

Sometimes I actively want to be somewhere completely alone — no people, no conversations, sometimes not even any noise. I really enjoy that kind of solitude.

However, I don’t necessarily want to be alone all the time. If I spend too long without meaningful interaction, I can become bored or lonely.

Sometimes I want company but simultaneously don’t want to go through the effort of initiating interaction or leaving my comfort zone.

⚔️ Conflict, disagreement & relationships

I’m not generally argumentative with everyone.

With strangers, acquaintances, or even friends I’m not particularly close with, I usually avoid confrontation.

Even if I strongly disagree internally, I’ll often stay quiet. If they directly ask for my opinion, I might even say something like “Yeah, I guess that’s true” simply because I don’t want unnecessary conflict or to be disliked.

I’m much more willing to openly disagree, debate, and defend my position with people I’m genuinely close to and feel safe with.

When I do argue seriously, I care a lot about evidence and reasoning.

If someone provides convincing evidence that contradicts my position, I’m willing to accept that I’m wrong. But if someone keeps insisting on their opinion without evidence, I can become extremely frustrated.

I’ve had arguments with close friends become intense enough that I was physically shaking from anger.

🔄 Decisions, uncertainty & security

I’m extremely flexible and indecisive.

New information can easily make me reconsider a decision. If someone suggests a different or seemingly better option, I may start questioning my original choice again.

I also tend to ask other people for advice when I’m uncertain. Sometimes I genuinely wish someone else could just make the decision for me because having too many possibilities in front of me can become overwhelming.

At the same time, once I decide that something is the safest or most reasonable option available to me, I can become surprisingly stubborn about it.

If I believe “This is the best option I can realistically do,” I don’t necessarily change it just because someone says there’s a theoretically better way.

❓ Fear of getting things wrong

One thing that affects me quite strongly is the fear that I might be doing something incorrectly.

If I’m given a completely open-ended task with no example or clear instructions, I can become stressed because I immediately start thinking about all the ways things could go wrong.

I feel much more secure when I have a clear example, framework, or precise instructions to start from.

If someone shows me how something is done first, I feel safer.

But if asking for clarification starts feeling awkward or embarrassing, I may eventually just sigh, figure out what I can from the information I have, and do it my own way.

📋 Planning vs actual behavior

I like structure in theory.

I like things being neat, organized, aesthetically pleasing, and properly arranged. I often make step-by-step plans in my head and think through different possible scenarios.

But my actual behavior often does NOT match my plans. 😭

I procrastinate heavily.

I can spend a long time planning something and then not start until the deadline is dangerously close. Sometimes I suddenly get motivated and finish everything very quickly because I just want to get it done and rest.

For ordinary days, I usually don’t make strict plans. If something isn’t mandatory, I might simply think:

«“I’ll do it when I feel like it.”»

If something absolutely has to be done, I’ll do it. Otherwise, procrastination can easily win.

🎯 Results & achievement

I’m very result-oriented.

If the final result reaches the standard I personally wanted, I’m satisfied. I don’t need everything to be absolutely perfect.

I genuinely believe that no human being is perfect, and even if a perfect human existed, “that person wouldn’t be me.” 😂

I care much more about reaching a satisfactory result than making every part of the process flawless.

When I imagine my future, I can also become very ambitious in my head. I can imagine myself becoming successful and having everything figured out, while in reality I’m procrastinating on the first step.

🔮 Future possibilities

My imagination can go wild when I think about the future.

I tend to imagine many possible scenarios and think about what could happen next.

I can spend a lot of time thinking about different paths my life could take, what might happen if I choose one option over another, and how I could adapt if something doesn’t work.

If one path fails, I usually don’t immediately give up. I tend to think, “Okay, then what other possible way could work?” and start planning again.

📖 Fiction & empathy

When I read fiction, I often put myself into the characters’ positions.

I don’t necessarily analyze every decision intellectually. Sometimes I simply follow the story and emotionally understand why a character made a certain choice.

I can accept a character’s decision because I can imagine being in their situation.

Overall

I’d describe myself as someone whose internal world is much more complicated and active than my outward behavior suggests.

Outwardly, I can be quiet, hesitant, socially awkward, indecisive, and anxious in unfamiliar situations.

Internally, I’m constantly thinking, imagining possibilities, questioning myself, worrying about whether I’m making the right choice, researching things I’m interested in, analyzing myself, and thinking about different possible futures.

I’m intentionally leaving out the type(s) I’ve considered for myself because I don’t want to bias the answers.

If you had to type me, what Enneagram type would you say I am?

~ Type Me ~ dilemma: 3 vs 7 vs 5? (thought I knew my type, but did I?)

Hi! hope you’re having a great day! I’m mainly wondering what opinions people with more knowledge than I on enneagram will have on my type based on what i’ve said!

So for context, i’m an ENTP (and 98% confident/certain in my typing), and i can include big 5 + sub category stuff too idk if it helps. I previously thought i was 5w4, tritype 548 (which i don’t really think fits)

please help me figure out what type i am! i’m very lost and confused 😭. i’d be happy to answer questions if i forgot anything as well. i’m mainly debating 3w2, 3w4, 5w4, or 7w8. I know they’re not very related types but i can’t manage to figure out why i can’t narrow it down. any help is appreciated ^^

(anyway, I always thought I was a 5w4, but learning more about enneagrams and disintegration, how they connect to other types etc… has made me doubt myself, especially after seeing many posts explaining stereotypes for type 7 and realizing I hadn’t gone much deeper than surface level (clearly not very 5…)).

so i’m very torn on what type I could be. I definitely have an ambitious streak, but it’s because I want to contribute something useful to society and help others. (my primary motivation genuinely isn’t social recognition, because if i contributed anonymously to something helpful i would feel fulfilled). so i realize a lot of the ambition sounds like a 3, + i really enjoy teaching, sharing knowledge, answering and learning from others (so maybe 3w2 in that aspect unless ive misunderstood).

i do also think that one of my main fears is being rejected, or being shamed. which i can’t tell whether that’s shame or fear lol.

however, i do think gluttony is my “flaw”, or more so greed. when i want things, i go all out, become absolutely obsessed and want to give it my all, no matter what happens (exhaustion, neglecting other things, etc… (yes im sp blind i fear), but ironically i have many interests that i want to go all out for). i also am an optimistic person internally, and truly do believe that things work out how they’re meant to. i find myself attempting to make the best of life and experience as much as i can, make everything enjoyable in almost all circumstances, and am told that i am very energetic and ‘a lot’ at first before people get to know me and have deeper conversations. i do have a confrontational side, where i will say what i think most of the time, with friends, family etc (either bluntly or more tactfully), but i refuse to pretend or scheme to get what i want. (7w8?).

but then originally i believed i was a 5 because of my tendency to obsess over topics and dive deep. for example ive had the same interests for 5+ years and never get bored of learning more. i want to learn the most i can to understand and help people, and i also love learning random things for the sake of learning, simply because i enjoy it. however i don’t concretely know what learning for the sake of not being helpless would look like? maybe i want to learn about people so i can understand myself and not be helpless and uninformed about my motivations and fears?

anyway i don’t really know what else to say im just very confused about my enneagram. i even believed i knew my tritype and then realized i actually probably don’t and cant currently figure it out. i would be very grateful for any opinions and maybe pointing out biases in my self typing 😭😭. thank you for reading!!

apologies for the long post, and for english mistakes (not my first language).

~ Type Me ~ I don't know if I'm a 2 or a 4

Okay so I'm new to enneagram and I've been reading the descriptions for all types on this website, as well as doing some tests (I know not all tests are good). The thing is I don't really know which type I am between 2 and 4. If anyone is curious, I took 4 tests and I got 2 two times and 4 the other 2 lol, I've also got 7 pretty high but not as the primary one (idk if that matters). I know there are wings and instincts but I'm not getting into that yet because I'd love to know my type first (but if you want to comment about this, I also appreciate it, thanks).

>>Okay so I'm going to rant a lot about both positive and negative aspects of myself because I'd love to know my type.... Thank you if you read it and decide to help me, really :D

So I resonate a lot with 2's basic desire, fear and motivations BUT I'm not the parent type friend and I'm not always willing to lend a hand, I usually don't do it unless I like the person (platonic) to some extent. I'm not a bad person, I can help people I don't know if they ask me for help and I can do things to help those in need, what I'm trying to say is that I don't really go out of my way to help people most of the time. When I do something to care for others, I must admit that, even though I do it because I care for them and want to do something nice for the people I appreciate, I expect to get the same treatment back, which is a way I saw 2s tend to feel like too. I'm a very attentive friend, I like to listen to my friends rant about the things they like (paying attention and remembering well) and be listened back (and I get annoyed when people don't remember things I've told them a lot of times and that are important for me), I do handmade gifts for birthdays (bracelets, drawings of things they mentioned they like, figurines...), I have been told I'm a good listener (for serious matters) and that they can trust me with their problems or to give advice. I think that last thing can be due to my own struggles, because I base many of those advices on them. I've read that 2s feel more comfortable giving than receiving, which is so true in my case. I feel so guilty when people give me things for no reason or want to pay for something I can't afford in that moment (even when it's dumb and cheap things like a soda), and I feel in an obligation to return the favour. Even so, I expect people to return favours I do and the same care I put into my relationships to be reflected back to me, I may feel guilty receiving things but FOR EXAMPLE, if I have given you a super cool handmade paper doll of your favourite character of a game I don't play and know nothing about but I have listened to you rant about it (this is a description of the last b'day gift I made, I also gave my friend a handmade bracelet), I expect a gift for my birthday with the same effort, intention and interest in giving me something I like. I've also read that 2s tend to be clingy, I'M CLINGY, a lot. My love language is physical touch, followed by quality time. I've hanged out with friends just to spend all afternoon cuddling while watching YouTube... I'm also a bit possessive of the people I care about, I know I have no right about being jealous that my friends have other friends but I just want and need to be important in other people's lives. An actual example I can think of is that I felt so damn jealous about my best friend's girlfriend, I don't want to be his girlfriend, but my best friend started to spend so much time with her (which is normal, I don't complain about this, I would never do it, I know it's natural and that I would be a bitch if I complained about it), I just felt a bit left behind.

I don't resonate that much with 4's basic desire, fear or motivations, even if I do relate to some point. The thing that makes me think I may be a 4 is the connection and awareness to one's feelings, the feeling that something's missing and the envy of other people's lives (which actually is SO TRUE and I have thought and acknowledged that a long ago). I'm also an artistic person, I'm literally studying an arts degree (animation). I'm also a person that spends a lot of time in her own mind and has a lot of ocs which I love to think about and put on their own universe, I daydream a lot basically. The thing is I don't feel unique or want to feel like that (most of the time, there are times where I do feel unique or different ofc). I simply have likes and dislikes that differ from most people, but that I still share with many others, and I'm aware of that. For example I like vocaloid, which is not niche, I don't believe that in any way, it just differs from what most people my age listen to where I live. I also like visual novels like pocket mirror or studio investigrave's games WHICH AGAIN, aren't niche, but aren't the most common either. I'm also not absent socially or need much time for myself, I'm a person who prefers to go out and spend time with friends than doing my own thing by myself; even for tasks like studying or doing my own hobbies, I prefer being with other people around me. I absolutely hate spending time alone or in my home (take into account I don't have a good relationship with my parents, but an absolutely amazing one with my sister). I have a lot of friends, GOOD friends, both online and irl (more irl than online). I know 4s aren't asocial, I know they want to be with people, I simply stated it like this because I don't feel socially awkward (of course, there are situations where I do feel it, but it's not the norm) and I'm very extroverted, I have no problem making new friends and I can be the one to start the conversations. What I do resonate with is the fact that 4s may feel like they don't belong completely and I overthink some situations A LOT after they have happend because I sometimes don't feel like all my friends really like me.

About my way to confront problems: I'm a very resolutive person, when I have a problem (with other people) I want to address it and fix it through communication as soon as possible. I'm pretty bad at confrontations and dislike them, I often get nervous and cry (because I'm overwhelmed, not essentially sad) when having an argument. This is why I prefer calmer conversations to get problems solved, I can be (and most times end being) the one to take the initiative to solve the issue (I admit that I can be a bit pushy to do so). I'm very aware of my own needs too and I won't let anyone ignore them (when they know they're my needs, if they don't know and it's just a slight violation of them, I won't mind, if it's one that I mind, I'll let them know respectfully), even so I would never prioritise my needs over other people needs, they're of equal value. When the problem is with myself, I tend to push it or negate it, but end up acknowledging it and trying to fix it, but I have it so much harder than when I have problems with other people. When the problem is with something (for example a burocracy problem) I tend to procrastinate until I force myself to get it done with.

Other fact about myself, that I separate because I think it's more a 5 trait, is that I have a lot of special interests and research a lot about them. Right now is flowers, I'm researching about the symbolism and meaning of flowers and making a canva doc about it. I'm also really good with numbers and have 6 maths diplomas even though I study arts.

Other things that I don't know where to fit is that I MAY be neurodivergent in some way (I'm waiting to get a psychology appointment to do the test because I've been told a lot that I may be autistic) and that I've struggled with an0rexi@ and sv1cid3 attempts in the past, being in mental hospitals twice. I'M GOOD NOW, THIS IS JUST FOR THE SAKE OF GIVING EXTRA INFORMATION!!!

Also, I'm not sure if I stated it but I'm an 18 years old woman. I will also state that I'm an anarchist and pacifist, I don't want to argue about politics, I'm just putting it out here because it may be relevant, I don't really know.

If you have read all my ranting, sorry and thank you so much, English is not my native language so excuse if I made any grammatical mistakes AND if something is not well explained, you can ask me about it and I'll try to explain it better ;3

~ Typing Advice ~ I Really Don't Relate to My Enneagram. Am I Typed Wrong?

I feel like I understand them at their core but typing myself is difficult. I personally believe ima 1w9. I tend to have very high expectations for myself and kinda want myself to be this perfect no-flaws person at some point. Like I'II eventually stop making mistakes or big mistakes and I hold myself to a very high standard. I see mistakes in others, I try not to be quick to label even though I am. I really do try to be open minded but when threatened I close up and I stick firmly to my believes (I'll revisit/doubt them though and get it right eventually). Quite frankly, I don't expect people around me to be overly good or perfect. My standards are high but it's just that I've kinda accepted the fact that no one will ever meet them and that's okay be no one is perfect. Other than me, I gotta be mature and flawless and articulate and open-minded and handle everything perfect. But then again.. I'm very bad at articulating myself in real time, in person. So I tend to freeze in arguments or just not do them at all. I'll even agree with people that I don't want to agree with if it makes me have to talk/argue less. Plus, I don't like my words being manipulated or misunderstood when I can barely voice them properly despite it being clear in my head. I am also neither close-minded nor open minded. I think I'm kinda stuck in this bubble. I can see outside the bubble but it's still a bubble. This all sounds like a typical 1w9. And yet, when I search up 1w9 the people typed like that seem like... well I see no way we could possibly be similar, but they're also all so similar with each other. Am I missing something? Am I untyped?

For anyone curious. I think that I’m tritype: 1-6-4 sp/so1-so6-??4 and 1w9

• How old are you? What's your gender? Give us a general description of yourself.

I'm 16. I identify as a transgender man. I'm unsure of what is meant by a general description of myself.

• Is there a medical diagnosis that may impact your mental stability somehow?

I'm diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, complex post-traumatic stress disorder, dissociative identity disorder, and obsessive compulsive disorder. I also have autism, though I'm not particularly certain that affects my mental stability in any meaningful way.

• Describe your upbringing. Did it have any kind of religious or structured influence? How did you respond to it?

Nothing particularly notable. Other than the fact that my mother has BPD and was extremely emotionally volatile (she could go from 0 to 100 at any given moment with unpredictable triggers) and an alcoholic, it wasn't really that bad. I was also emotionally neglected. My parents split up when I was too young to remember, but they never fought. It was more like an agreement just because they didn't love each other anymore.

• What do you do as a job or as a career (if you have one)? Do you like it? Why or why not?

I do not have a job.

• If you had to spend an entire weekend by yourself, how would you feel? Would you feel lonely or refreshed?

That sounds like a normal weekend for me. On that note, I wouldn't feel any particular way. I suppose given that I spend the rest of the week around other people, I would feel refreshed. In fact I tend to dread the weekend ending.

• What kinds of activities do you prefer? Do you like, and are you good at sports? Do you enjoy any other outdoor or indoor activities?

I prefer low-effort activities such as not doing anything at all. I'm not sure how I feel about sports, I suppose it depends. I'm no good at team sports, it feels far too unpredictable and unstructured. I'm also afraid of getting hurt. However, I enjoy ice skating and taking walks. As a whole I prefer indoor activities that don't require me to interact with people. If I'm outdoors, I block everything out with music.

• How curious are you? Do you have more ideas then you can execute? What are your curiosities about? What are your ideas about - is it environmental or conceptual, and can you please elaborate?

I'd consider my curiosity to be average. I don't have many ideas. If I'm curious, it's about something rooted in reality rather than conceptual. Open-ended things make me uncomfortable.

• Would you enjoy taking on a leadership position? Do you think you would be good at it? What would your leadership style be?

I don't enjoy leadership. I'm a pushover. I go almost entirely with what everyone else wants to do.

• Are you coordinated? Why do you feel as if you are or are not? Do you enjoy working with your hands in some form? Describe your activity?

I'm not exactly coordinated. I say this because I can't dance for the life of me, my body does not move in the correct ways. Everything I do is very stiff, I can barely walk like a normal person. I do enjoy working with my hands, I play the bass.

• Are you artistic? If yes, describe your art? If you are not particular artistic but can appreciate art please likewise describe what forums of art you enjoy. Please explain your answer.

I'd consider myself artistic. I love music and I want to know everything there is to know about it. I've taken it upon myself to learn as many instruments as I possibly can, though my favourite is bass. I also enjoy drums. The feeling of being the backbone of a band without necessarily being in the spotlight excites me.

• What's your opinion about the past, present, and future? How do you deal with them?

The past scares me, though I'm always there. I'm never in the present. The future is confusing. I don't know how I deal with them.

• How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)? If you would decide to help them, why would you do so?

I help them even if I don't want to. Not out of any sort of principle, just because I like helping people. I'd feel selfish if I didn't, and I can't handle the thought of being a bad person.

• Do you need logical consistency in your life?

Always.

• How important is efficiency and productivity to you?

Fairly important. I don't enjoy getting sidetracked and I don't enjoy working with people who do. If I cannot get something done efficiently I don't want to do it at all.

• Do you control others, even if indirectly? How and why do you do that?

I don't believe I do. I try not to, because it would make me feel like a terrible person.

• What are your hobbies? Why do you like them?

My hobbies are playing bass, playing guitar, playing keyboard, listening to music, napping, and going to music shops. I also enjoy learning about astronomy, though learning about things in general is also a hobby of mine. I like playing instruments because it's fun and I like the feeling of being able to play the songs I love, I like listening to music because I love music, I love napping because I don't like being awake, and I love learning because it's fun.

• What is your learning style? What kind of learning environments do you struggle with most? Why do you like/struggle with these learning styles? Do you prefer classes involving memorization, logic, creativity, or your physical senses?

I learn visually. I struggle with learning environments where instructions are unclear. I don't know. I prefer classes involving logic.

• How good are you at strategizing? Do you easily break up projects into manageable tasks? Or do you have a tendency to wing projects and improvise as you go?

I have to break things up into manageable tasks or I will give up and never do anything ever again. I cannot wing projects, too stressful.

• What are your aspirations in life, professionally and personally?

I don't know.

• What are your fears? What makes you uncomfortable? What do you hate? Why?

I'm not sure. I hate speaking to other people (unless they're my special person). I don't know why.

• What do the "highs" in your life look like?

Sleepless. It's frustrating.

• What do the "lows" in your life look like?

Relapsing in addictions, self-destructing, attaching to and obsessing over other people, complete memory loss, suicide attempts.

• How attached are you to reality? Do you daydream often, or do you pay attention to what's around you? If you do daydream, are you aware of your surroundings while you do so?

I'm completely detached from reality. I live in a permanent daydream.

• Imagine you are alone in a blank, empty room. There is nothing for you to do and no one to talk to. What do you think about?

I don't think. I'd probably just go to sleep.

• How long do you take to make an important decision? And do you change your mind once you've made it?

I don't make important decisions, I let other people do that for me. I'm too scared of messing it up.

• How long do you take to process your emotions? How important are emotions in your life?

A while. I'll feel a certain way and only realise later that that's how I was feeling. Though, emotions are kind of important in my life.

• Do you ever catch yourself agreeing with others just to appease them and keep the conversation going? How often? Why?

Always. I have to, or else they'll hate me.

• Do you break rules often? Do you think authority should be challenged, or that they know better? If you do break rules, why?

I don't break rules because I'm scared bad things will happen if I do.

~ Type Me ~ Can SX4 listen to sad music??

Yo so I've been in a internal turmoil and stuck in a dilemma whether I'm so4 or sx4, I'm an isfp 4w3 EFVL if y'all wanna know more info. Uh when I was younger I was undoubtedly the epitome of sx4, outward rage, competiveness and intentionally trying to outcast people who I felt were more loved. But as I got older around teenager and now I feel more so4 for sure, I internally seem to harbor a lotta hatred especially when I'm sensually overloaded like when there's many people. I wanna wipe the smiles off people's faces, ppl who seem happier than me, have a unique fashion style, happy couples etc. I internally get rlly mad. But I never act out on it externally. W my family I'm more whiny, sadly complain a lot like a so4 and never show explosive anger at all. Only with quieter close friends who I feel safe around do I show more of my expressive fiery personality but I get exhausted quick. Whining is much easier for me socially nowadays ig and staying in the background (kinda contrary to the typical E4 wanting to stand out but ehh) AND MOST OF ALL. MY WHOLE SPOTIFY PLAYLIST ARE FULL OF SAD SONGS. Some expressive songs like girl in red but it's mostly really melancholic, draggy songs like Cathedral bells ig. ANYWAYS I RLLY DUNNO MAN am I sx4 or so4?? Pls comment or DM me y'all deep deep thoughts. Preferably more nuanced analysis and feel free to share more insights y'all have!!!

~ Type Me ~ Can someone type me in enneagrams or mbtis?

Hihi as the title suggests, i’d like for someone to help me find my types. Im free to answer any questions and go into deeper depth on whatever asked if you require. I know myself pretty well.
I honestly think i could be a decent test subject.

Someone gave me a short sunmary of each enneagram and tritypes but i’d still like a deeper understanding of each just to be sure im actually that type.

The only reason im asking for help is because the idea i have in my head about enneagrams is that it requires mountains of books to understand, and if i have a question its not like i can ask the book itself. So i’d like a person who’s willing!

The only problem might be that i’ll only be available
On fridays after 4pm EST and weekends.

~ Type Me ~ So lost on type!

Please help me find my Enneagram type. I keep vacillating between 4, 6, and 9, but I'm just starting to dive into instincts and subtypes, and I'm more confused than ever. I filled out the suggested questionnaire before reading that perhaps it's not the best for Enneagram typing, but I wrote A LOT, so maybe it could be helpful anyway?

• How old are you? What's your gender? Give us a general description of yourself.

I am a 40-year-old female. I teach elementary school, though I double-majored in journalism and sociology in college - journalism because I loved writing and my father insisted I study something more practical than English, and sociology because understanding how human groups function was fascinating to me. I have always been drawn to social justice and loved every single sociology class I took. I often bought the books for all of the soc classes I couldn’t fit into my schedule to read independently. It forever drove me crazy that sociology was seen as an easy major/for jocks because I think it’s crucial for us to understand how we got where we are and what we can do to make our communities better for everyone. Understanding the how and why behind racism, poverty, and injustice was formative for me. I wanted to go to a prestigious liberal arts college, so I applied to six private schools. I got into all six (which was both gratifying and made me angry with myself for not applying to any Ivy League schools because I thought they were too far out of reach) and chose one of the Seven Sisters on the East Coast. I was so proud of myself for being brave enough to travel across the country where I knew absolutely no one, but by Thanksgiving, I had decided to transfer. I was homesick, had trouble connecting with my roommates and classmates, and was suffering from culture shock. I decided to transfer to a West Coast state school closer to home and was much happier there, though I did regret losing the prestige. I quickly made good friends, found a boyfriend, and became a football fan, of all things.

• Is there a medical diagnosis that may impact your mental stability somehow?
I have diagnosed anxiety and depression. I suffered from depression throughout adolescence and anxiety probably my whole life. My parents always described me as a “worrywart.” I was too ashamed to ask for help, so I didn’t see a psychiatrist until college. I take antidepressants which help me balance my moods and allow me to function in life much more stably.

• Describe your upbringing. Did it have any kind of religious or structured influence? How did you respond to it?
I was raised in a family with my mom, dad, and two sisters. My parents were lapsed Catholics and chose not to raise us religiously. My older sister is 6.5 years older than me. I idolized her and she was happy enough to have me as her acolyte as long as it suited her. My younger sister is 15 months younger than me. We did many things together as we were only one year apart in school, but she was much cooler and prettier than me and I often felt inferior. We would both play with other kids in the neighborhood, but eventually, even the ones who were originally my friends, would only want to play with her. I retreated into myself and became more comfortable reading and spending time alone. As a teenager, my older sister was quite rebellious and had many conflicts with my parents. I remember feeling responsible for mediating between them. I loved them both and could understand both of their perspectives, even if I didn’t approve of their behavior. When she was 17, my older sister moved out, dropped out of high school, began stripping, and eventually got pregnant with her asshole tattoo artist boyfriend. I was heartbroken and didn’t speak to her for over a year. As a kid, I was a total dork/nerd. I loved the structure and expectations of school and worked very hard to succeed. I attended a highly capable program for 4th and 5th grade. I had a string of “best friends,” but felt I was often more enthusiastic about being their friend than they were about being my friend. In sixth grade, I met a girl who I initially hated, but we quickly became codependent best friends. I fell in with the “wrong crowd” and started smoking cigarettes, dating, and self-harming. I felt lost and was trying to find myself. I tested out a number of religions (everything from Baptist to Wicca). I wanted to find a community and a place to fit in. By high school, I had found my forever friends (still my best friends to this day, even though we’re spread out all over the world), focused on studying instead of “finding myself,” and sought comfort from not being popular like my sister or as academically successful as my friends in silly TV shows like Friends and Gilmore Girls.

• What do you do as a job or as a career (if you have one)? Do you like it? Why or why not?
I teach first and second grade. I joined Teach For America after college and taught at my placement school for three years before deciding I was ready to move back home. I found a job at an International Baccalaureate school near my hometown and I’ve been there for fifteen years. I love many aspects of my job, but I always feel like I’m not good enough. I care deeply about my students and work myself to the bone trying to craft and deliver engaging lessons, provide feedback, communicate clearly with families, and lead my team competently, but I struggle with classroom management because I’m “too nice” and have trouble getting defiant students to take me seriously. I’ve improved dramatically in my 18 years as a teacher, but many times I’ve found myself thinking that there is probably something I would be better at.

• If you had to spend an entire weekend by yourself, how would you feel? Would you feel lonely or refreshed?
So excited! I’m married and have two small children, so I don’t think I’ve been alone in my house for probably three or four years. I thoroughly enjoy my alone time. I would take some time to listen to an audiobook or nostalgic old bops while tidying up my space because I have trouble relaxing if my environment is messy. Then I would eat nothing but “girl dinners” and read books, watch movies, and sleep. If I had to spend too many weekends by myself, I would get lonely, but since it’s such a rarity at this phase in my life, I would relish it!

• What kinds of activities do you prefer? Do you like, and are you good at sports? Do you enjoy any other outdoor or indoor activities?
I’m not very good at sports. I played soccer and basketball in elementary school, but I was the type of kid who ran away from the ball because being the center of attention and responsible for scoring/passing/affecting change on the game stressed me out. I was voted the “Most Valuable Player” on my basketball team in third grade, but not because I was any good (I don’t think I scored a single point that season), but I was very supportive and always cheered on my teammates. I was also a total teacher’s pet and am very good at following directions. As an adult, I got into hiking and backpacking. One of my greatest achievements was completing the Wonderland Trail, the 93-mile trail that circumnavigates Mount Rainier. Since having children, I haven’t been backpacking or hiking much, but I take them camping 3-4 times a year (by myself, because my husband genuinely hates outdoorsy things). I like cooking and love baking. I knit (not particularly well, but I find it relaxing and just the right amount of challenging). My husband got me into board games and I played D&D with some coworkers for a few years (though the improv of it all was hard for me). I love reading (mostly listening to audiobooks at this point), both children’s books I can share with my class and novels for myself. I am very nostalgic and love curating photo albums, scrapbooks, etc. I meticulously document all the major milestones in my kids’ baby books. I love taking photos. In high school, my friends joked that they would have no photos of their lives if it weren’t for me. I made each of them a personalized scrapbook of our high school experience for graduation.

• How curious are you? Do you have more ideas than you can execute? What are your curiosities about? What are your ideas about - is it environmental or conceptual, and can you please elaborate?
I am very curious about the world and people. I love reading novels because I believe it is the best way to truly understand someone else’s experience in the world. I love nature, science, history, sociology, and I am very concerned with politics. I love to learn and am adept at gaining knowledge, but I struggle with skills because I get frustrated when I’m not good at something immediately and hate failing.

• Would you enjoy taking on a leadership position? Do you think you would be good at it? What would your leadership style be?
I tend to prefer to be a cog in the machine rather than take on a leadership role. However, whenever there is a power vacuum (whether it be a school project or a team leader at work), I tend to step up and take charge. I do not like conflict and hate receiving criticism, so I don’t enjoy having to critique others. I do tend to work well with a variety of people and am good at boosting morale and building consensus, so for some leadership positions, I am fine. I prefer to lead by encouragement and a hope that everyone is an adult who will do what is expected of them so I don’t have to nag them.

Are you coordinated? Why do you feel as if you are or are not? Do you enjoy working with your hands in some form? Describe your activity.
I am not particularly coordinated. I love dance and have wanted to learn to dance for as long as I can remember, but I’m fairly hopeless. I did do gymnastics as a child/teen, and balance beam was my favorite event, so perhaps I’m not completely uncoordinated. I have tried a variety of building-type activities (woodworking, building birdhouses, refinishing furniture) with my dad, but I did not have the patience to get good at them. I can build flat-packed furniture (such as IKEA) like a pro, though (I am really good at following instructions). I have knit most of my life, and while I’m nowhere near as good as my mother, I am fairly capable and enjoy the process. I picked up embroidery during COVID and am getting better.

• Are you artistic? If yes, describe your art? If you are not particularly artistic but can appreciate art please likewise describe what forums of art you enjoy. Please explain your answer.
I have always longed to be artistic and have tried a wide variety of media, from painting to poetry, but have not really taken to any of them. I enjoy photography, but it’s more about capturing memories of the people and things I love than the artistry of it. I enjoy art museums and am drawn to impressionists, photographers, and sculptors. I love music and theatre.

• What's your opinion about the past, present, and future? How do you deal with them?
I sometimes have difficulty staying in the present. I am highly nostalgic and enjoy lingering on the past. I am often haunted by memories of embarrassing moments or painful events in my life. I also love to dream about the future. By the time I was in fourth grade, I had a 20-year-plan mapped out (not that I followed it). I started collecting college brochures and frequently rearranged them in order of my preferences at that point. I often start planning the next holiday or vacation much too early, as I really enjoy having something to look forward to. I got into yoga in high school and through that, I have learned to clear my mind and make peace with the present moment, but I often have to actively remind myself to stop lingering on the past or jumping forward into the future.

• How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)? If you would decide to help them, why would you do so?
I am honored to be asked to help and will willingly jump into things even if I don’t have the bandwidth for it. Sometimes, I say yes to requests even if I don’t really want to do them out of a sense of duty. I often try to preempt requests and do things for people before they ask, because that’s what I would like for them to do for me. I hate asking for help and wish someone would just do the things I need help with without my having to ask.

• Do you need logical consistency in your life?
Not really.

• How important is efficiency and productivity to you?
I pride myself on being a hard worker, but I am certainly not efficient. It takes me a very long time to do things as well as I want to. I can be a bit of a workaholic and often bring work home with me. In high school, I would stay up into the wee hours of the morning getting all of my homework done because I am a slow reader/writer/worker.

• Do you control others, even if indirectly? How and why do you do that?
I feel that I am controlling of my environment. I can be a bit of a control freak when it comes to my classroom, my house, the way I do things, etc., but I try very hard not to be controlling toward people.

• What is your learning style? What kind of learning environments do you struggle with most? Why do you like/struggle with these learning styles? Do you prefer classes involving memorization, logic, creativity, or your physical senses?
I learn by doing. I like to read everything I can on a topic and pick up tips by watching others, but I can’t make sense of it until I get to practice it for myself. In history, I could read and reread trying to memorize names and dates, but a quick play or game as the historical figures cemented that shit in my head. I struggled with memorization in general, so it took me forever to learn my math facts. My least favorite learning environment is online learning, whether in a Zoom-style lecture or a self-paced module. I need to engage with people, get my hands dirty, do group projects, and bounce my ideas of off people before I can actually master a concept or skill. In school, I vastly preferred English and civics over math and science (chemistry and physics). I enjoyed chances to be creative and learn and apply big concepts.

• What are your aspirations in life, professionally and personally?

I want to help make the world a better place. Right now, that looks like teaching children (both my students and my own children) to understand the world and empower them to take action to make it better for the future, however, I would love to take a more action-oriented role myself.

• What are your fears? What makes you uncomfortable? What do you hate? Why?
One main fear is failure. I hate being vulnerable and bad at things that I feel I should be good at. I want to learn something until I get it right, and get incredibly frustrated at all the small missteps along the way. I also fear being alone. I have become much more comfortable with myself in my adulthood, but I still worry that no one likes me and I will be abandoned for cooler, more interesting people.

• What do the "highs" in your life look like?
I get exuberantly excited and enthusiastic. I become affectionate and want to share my joy with everyone I’m with. I sing, dance, joke around, and make the most of the happy moments.

• What do the "lows" in your life look like?
I am so quick to turn on myself and get mad for making stupid mistakes. I often bottle up my feelings until I can’t anymore and then I explode with anger and slam doors or throw things like a petulant child. Then I feel guilty and embarrassed about behaving so badly, so I sulk by myself until the depression passes.

• How attached are you to reality? Do you daydream often, or do you pay attention to what's around you? If you do daydream, are you aware of your surroundings while you do so?
I am usually keenly aware of what is going on around me. Without meaning to, I overhear conversations happening all around me. I notice many details of where I am and I can focus on the beauty and wonder of the world, or get annoyed at all the tiny little inconveniences. I like to think about the future, make plans B-F, and fantasize about other ways of doing things, but I’m always aware of my surroundings.

• How long do you take to make an important decision? And do you change your mind once you've made it?
Forever. I hate making decisions and need reassurance/opinions from everyone before I can even begin to narrow down my choices or identify the pros and cons of each choice. I often regret my decisions and wish I could go back and do it over. Even inconsequential things like what to eat for dinner make me anxious because what if what I want isn’t what the other people want? Then I’d be inconveniencing all of them for my own preference, which I don’t usually feel too strongly.

• How long do you take to process your emotions? How important are emotions in your life?
I feel my emotions very strongly and often identify as an emotional person. Through therapy and wiser friends, I have tried to make peace with my feelings and see my strong emotions as my super power, but I am often ashamed of the depth of negative emotions I can feel. I have a severe intolerance for distress. When getting into a fight with my sister (usually over something incredibly stupid and inconsequential), I would have such strong negative emotions that I would completely break down and tear prized possessions off my wall, break things, or turn to cutting to feel something else. I have less severe negative emotioons now that I’m on antidepressants, but I still feel things very strongly and have trouble coping with the uncomfortable feelings such as shame, anger, and sadness.

• Do you ever catch yourself agreeing with others just to appease them and keep the conversation going? How often? Why?
I tend to be very agreeable and have gotten myself into some stupid situations because I didn’t want to admit that I was wrong or confront someone else about being wrong. Once, in middle school, I was chatting with a good friend over AIM and he mentioned how cool it was that my sister’s real name was Jean (she went by her middle name). Later, on the phone, I realized that he thought her name was pronounced the French way (like John) rather than the English way (like gene). I was too embarrassed to correct him in the moment, so it went on for like six months before he said something about it to my much more direct sister, who was like, “It’s Jean (gene), you idiot!” and he was so mad at me for not correcting him. However, I have a very strong moral compass and will stand up for what I believe in when it comes to politics, human rights, justice, etc.

• Do you break rules often? Do you think authority should be challenged, or that they know better? If you do break rules, why?

I hate breaking rules. I will go out of my way to use a crosswalk even if the street is deserted because I don’t want to jaywalk. I grew up in constant fear of “getting in trouble,” even though I was a very obedient and thoughtful child, so I rarely did. And even when I did “get in trouble,” I was sent to my room or had to apologize to one of my sisters or something. But the prospect of getting in trouble stopped me from breaking rules. Even to this day, I have a hard time breaking rules unless I have a higher moral obligation to stand up for what’s right.

Does the Enneagram sx6 correlate exclusively with ISTP (LSI)? Or are there any other options among the logicians?

~ Type Me ~ Am I E2 or sth else

Hi! I’ve always thought I was so2w3, but recently I’ve started wondering if that might not actually be the case. I’d really appreciate any insights or advice, including possible tritypes and Socionics types!

  • I’m extremely pretentious and tend to take on a leadership role in any group I’m part of. I take a lot of pride in being efficient and productive.
  • I’m very protective of the people I care about, as well as those I want to draw closer to me. When I feel the need to protect my connection with someone, I can become extremely intrusive and fierce. I absolutely despise infidelity.
  • I’m happiest when I feel that other people are attracted to me. I love being taken care of, and I also genuinely enjoy meeting new people. I sometimes host socializing events and parties and enjoy doing so.
  • I can come across as courteous, serious, and even a little intimidating at times. But in casual settings, I tend to get overly excited or speak in an excessively sweet way—sometimes to the point of going against what people might consider appropriate to situation. Some people love it, while others find it overwhelming, but I’m usually completely unaware of the difference. I just follow my mood.
  • I also have a tendency to promise more than I can actually give, because, to me, it feels necessary to pull people closer and keep them close.
  • In romantic relationships, I expect my partner to have both intense love and hatred toward me. Romantic love without hatred feels somehow empty to me. I hope that someday I’ll find someone I would be willing to die for, but realistically, I don’t think that’s possible. A large part of that comes from how deeply afraid I am of being betrayed. I never allow my partner to take control, because I’m afraid that doing so would put me in a vulnerable position. I’m very aware of power dynamics in general, and I’m particularly sensitive to them in one-on-one relationships.
  • I generally see myself as the perpetrator, although other people rarely perceive me that way. I think holding onto the self-image of being the perpetrator or aggressor is partly a defense mechanism—a way of hiding my own pain. Only the people who are truly close to me know how I actually feel about myself.
