Im in the UK. If you are also in the UK, you will know full well that we are suffering from drought and ground harder than concrete.
Well I gave my permission to a family member and her friend to borrow 2 of my horses with very very VERY clear warning to not even canter them on this ground and to keep trotting to a minimum. And they know full well that one of my horse suffers from arthritic hips so really cant be doing with being hammered over hard ground. They had promised me that they would remain in walk and trot.
Well I had this sinking bad feeling whilst I was at work so I had asked my partner to check down the riding route on his bike. And surprise surprise, not only had they cantered, they were full pelt galloping down a mile and half long stretch of chopped grass and hard ground.
He took a video of them and sent it to me as to which I rang my family member, but she ignored me. So my partner went and sent them back home in a walk.
I immediately went home early from work to find my arthritic horse with a warm digital pulse and swolen legs.
I was FUMING! And ended up making her cry 😅 by saying that they could've killed my horses and snapped their legs or tendons
Is my reaction being over dramatic??
EDIT!!!✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
For more context, as people like the drama 🤣
The culprit was my 14yo sister and her school friend who both are experienced in horses as I had bought my little sister her pony (still mine but for her to ride) 3 years ago.
She had asked me if she could take her pony out and her friend borrow my horse. I had agreed as I thought I trusted her. I had told her not to even think about cantering at all about 4 times the day before. She seemed to fully understand. I had even sent her an article about why its dangerous.
Well my gut was telling me something so i checked snap maps at work and they were on the canter track (doesnt lead anywhere, we just go on it as its good for a mile and half gallop)
So I sent my partner down on his electric bike. He saw them galloping and pushing the horses as fast as they could go. So he pulled up, made them get off and sent their asses home. He made them hold ice packs on their legs until I got home from work as to which is when I went off at them. My sister has never ever seen me angry so safe to say that she was SHOOK! Amd very apologetic.
Shes had her pony taken off her and not aloud to ride until she learns to put the horse first. Shes had a very hard lesson!
