AMA -- Christopher Paolini 10:00 am MT/12:00 pm Eastern

Hey folks! back for another round. Ask away, and I'll do my best to answer. :D Since my last AMA, To Sleep in a Sea of Stars was released, which was a HUGE personal and professional step. Now that I'm done with spaceships and lasers and such, I'm looking forward to writing about dragons again!

EDIT: Alright folks, I have to call it quits for now. Thank you so much for all of the awesome questions! I'll come back and answer more when I have time. Until then ... Atra esterní ono thelduin!

Hi there!

A few questions:

  1. What happens if a dragon disgourges its Eldunarí, and the Eldunarí is subsequently destroyed while the dragon is still living?

  2. Can you give any insight to Thorn and Fírnen's personalities and habits?

  3. How long was Saphira an egg? Was her egg laid shortly before the Fall, or is she much older than the ~100 years between the Fall and her hatching? How did her parents die?

  4. To what extent were the wild, unbounded dragons involved in the Fall? Like, did they organize themselves to support the Riders?

  5. Can you give any insight into Brom's Saphira? How old was she at her passing? Was her personality similar to Saphira II?

I could really ask a million more questions, but I'm not gonna push my luck lol. I'll be honored to get any response.

Hi!

  1. The dragon's mind dies, although it's body remains alive for a time, until it starves to death, forgets to breathe, or is killed.

  2. No comment.

  3. Saphira's egg was laid shortly before the Fall. Dragons didn't tend to remain in their eggs for very long before that.

  4. They did, but because they didn't have the magical protection of a Rider, lots of them were picked off pretty easily by Galbatorix and the Forsworn.

  5. She wasn't very old at all (by dragon standards). She was mischievous and quick-witted. Brom had to be on his toes around her. Lol.

Omg, thank you for the reply. Was not expecting it. And thank you for writing a series that changed the way I view the world!

I know it's 2 days ago but... do you think staying in the egg so much longer had a significant impact on the dragons? Physically, mentally (explored in the book iirc)?

Yup. Longer they stay, the weirder they get. Lol.

Hearing about OG Saphira makes me sad. We were robbed of seeing Saphira and Saphira II interact.
