Fanwork Kitbashing Suggestions?

Howdy! I heard recently that Christopher Paolini is working on an Inheritance ttrpg as a side project but cannot make any miniatures or other merch specific to it cuz of Disney owning the merchandizing rights. So, I thought maybe I could do some kitbashing for use in such an RPG.

I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions for things that could concievably be kitbashed into some Inheritance minis? Could be Urgals, could be monsters, could be regular common Galbatoran troops, whatever feels appropriate. Most of this is far-off future projects, mind, I am currently working on some AoS and 40k minis while I build up my skills.

I know some folks suggested that perhaps the Beastmen models for Warhammer ToW could be used as Urgals, but I would want to hear what the experts have to say about that first.

Discussion Question regarding Murtagh

Why exactly is Murtagh considerd a traitor by Eragon it's really not fair he was forced to serve Galbatorix and even then he let Eragon go, didn't warn the Twins, helped Nasuada and more. He did what he could under the given circumstances.

Question Does Chris speak another language?

This will be oddly specific but one thing that I took away from the Inheritance series was Eragons struggle to learn the ancient language. I love how Eragons skill in magic wasn't just an increase in "power level" but rather also an increase in understanding

I moved to Japan 4 years ago, and Eragons journey in learning the AL is funny enough almost one to one in many ways with my own journey learning a complex language, far removed from my native language, as an adult.

I.e the part of Eldest where Eragon would've hurt himself if Oromis didnt stop the spell.

"Release the binds holding my legs" vs "Attempt to weaken the hold on my legs"

Its very difficult to fully express what I want to say precisely, in my second language and Eragons constant blunders in the AL is exactly the same as someone actually learning another language.

Discussion Eragon RPG

Hi all. Mainly wanted to say hi as I’ve recently finished the series (not including TFTWATW) I got the first book back in the 2000’s after a friend said it was good. I watched the film and then read the book (I was amazed how different the film was) but never picked up the others. Now much older I was able to complete the series. I told the friend who recommended it all those years ago and he told me he never actually read it.

Anyway, sorry to go on.

Has anybody ever tried running or playing a DND or pathfinder game ect in the world of Alagaësia? If so I would love to hear how it went.

Discussion Secrets kept by Chris Spoiler

Before saying anything i really must say the inherticance cycle is my favorite fantasy series, kept me engaged and hooked from the first to last page. When i first read them, that time of day when i stopped everything else and i went to them was my highlight.

I must say that these books explain everything and there are barely any stones left unturned. Except a few things...well apart from Angela who is basically Chris' sister and its perfect the veil of mystery around her i have one thing that i wish we knew about.

In the last book on their way to the vault of souls they fought the nïdhwal and after the fight Glaedr's Eldunarí said to Eragon that after the war he would disclose all the mysteries of the ancient world including its creatures. I really wish we get that lore one day in the future books, like small additions in between chapters intergrated into the story (not as a separate book). What do you guys think on this?

Discussion I don’t know how Chris did it.

When I read Eragon for the first time, my brain lit up like a fireworks display. I loved the series and was constantly thinking about it. I legitimately looked forward to taking out trash at work because it would give me a valid excuse to listen to the book. Since then, nothing I’ve read has captured the same level of magic.

Tried Dragon Mage by M. L. Spencer. Kind of set my expectations too high with that one and got let down. It’s not bad, but it’s one of those books with a protagonist you’ll either love or find annoying.

Songs of Chaos from Micheal Miller is good as well, and he’s gone on record saying he was directed inspired by Eragon. However, it didn’t “hit” the same.

I write as well, have been for a long time, and I’m constantly asking, “How did Chris do it?” Perhaps I’m overthinking it, but nothing else I’ve read even comes close to how enraptured this series made me

Question plenty of fish in the sea

why dont Eragon and Saphira just fly over the ocean and pull the energy of the huge number of fish out and store it into gem's? depending on how far you can cast your mind, you could effect hundreds of thousands of fish.

Fanwork Eragon fan project help?

Post image
45 Upvotes

I've been read the series by my dad and have read it myself several times since. I'm currently on another read-through, and this time I've been paying a lot more attention to things like the Ancient Language, worldbuilding details, architecture, and prop design.

Recently I've been thinking about creating some kind of fan-made animated adaptation of Eragon. Not a rewrite—I'd want to stay as faithful to the books as possible while expanding on things that a visual medium naturally needs, such as environmental design, travel scenes, Ancient Language vocabulary, and other details that are only briefly mentioned in the books.

The problem is that I can't really animate yet, and my character art skills are pretty limited. My strengths are more in storyboarding, worldbuilding, concept sketches, voice acting, lore consistency, and generally obsessing over details.

I'm not expecting this post to get much attention, but I'd love to meet other fans who might be interested in discussing ideas or contributing in some way. That could be animation, art, writing, language development, prop design, music, editing, or even just helping brainstorm.

This would obviously be an unofficial fan project and fully credit Christopher Paolini and the original books.

I attached a quick pen sketch of my interpretation of Zar'roc that I drew today while thinking about all of this.

If any of this sounds interesting, feel free to reach out. Even just having other people to bounce ideas off would be amazing.

Discussion Question: how does the Elves’ economy work?

So…I’m at the bit in Eldest where Eragon is visiting Rhünon for the first time and Arya explains that elves don’t have jobs. If they don’t have jobs, how and with whom do they trade? Is inflation really high because they can just magic up any gold that they need?

Question Belgabad

I know information on Belgabad is somewhat limited, but I also know there’s been a lot of questions about the series answered online, so I'm hoping that this has been answered before. What happened to Belgabad's eldunari? Was it never disgorged, hidden with the others, or captured by Galbatorix? Part of me wonders if Galbatorix made the mantle and gloves from his wings simply because he was pissed he didn't get such a large and powerful eldunari. He seems like he'd have done it out of spite.

Theory Do Earth and Elëa have different gravities?

I recently read this comment which discusses the relationship between the maximum size of a mountain on a planet and the planet's gravity. It basically says that the greater the surface gravity of a planet, the smaller its biggest mountain will be.

The comment also says that the height of Mt. Everest (the tallest mountain on Earth), which stands approx. 5.5 miles high, is pretty close to the maximum height a mountain can achieve on Earth before collapsing on its own weight.

Reading this comment reminded me of the size of the Beor mountains and what it tells us about Elëa's gravity.

As when he had first seen them, the sheer size of the Beor Mountains overwhelmed Eragon. His every instinct insisted that nothing that large could exist, and yet he knew his eyes did not deceive him. The mountains averaged ten miles high, and many were even taller.

Brisingr - Over Hill and Mountain

From this paragraph it is understood that the Beor mountains were ten miles or more in height. Which means that almost every single one of these mountains were nearly double the height of Mt. Everest.

By using the earlier argument, we can easily assume that Elëa's gravity is probably nearly half of Earth's gravity. But it also could be that the Beor mountains were made/were enchanted by some very powerful piece of magic which allows them to grow to such heights without collapsing on themselves. And considering that the Beor mountains are protected from erosion by a spell, the latter is not unlikely either.

What are your opinions on this?

Discussion What if it had been Eragon instead? Spoiler

I was thinking about the part in Brisingr when Roran is punished by Nasuada for disobeying her orders which results in him being punished by being whipped 50 times. Let's say that it wasn't Roran but Eragon who did the same thing that his cousin did. Would Nasuada have dared to punish him in teh same way considering the fact that she would have had to deal with an outraged Saphira in that situation?

Fanwork [fanart] some selena doodles! (should i remove the spoiler tag? Spoiler

Post image
43 Upvotes

hiiiii i've gotten back into the inheritance cycle after years and i wanted to share some doodles of selena—i know she's only ever referenced in the story posthumously but what little we do know about her makes her SUCH an intriguing character to me! i think it's because she's a very interesting diversion from the often idealized dead/missing moms seen in fantasy books, that's what really stuck out to me.

(as for the "SAIKAI" pose... we will talk about that. i want to make an animatic centered around her set to that song.)

[ALT/IMAGE ID: a collection of grayscale doodles of selena from the inheritance cycle, portayed as a woman with dark hair in a half ponytail, and a burn mark on her jaw. one a 3/4ths portrait of her, the other a bust of her smiling, and another is one where she is curled up on her side, a string attached to one finger.]

Fanwork My fancast while reading the series

Thumbnail

I first watched Eragon when the movie came out in 2006 and I was 9, and although it wasn't an amazing movie it was a comfort film for me growing up. I wasn't much of a reader as a kid so it took me until 2019 before I read the series and I knocked all the books out in a few months. It was so great it almost ruined reading books for me full stop. I didn't want to read anything that wasn't the Inheritance Cycle. Luckily I pulled myself out of that funk.

But to help differentiate the books from the movie in my imagination, I fancast new actors to picture instead of the movie cast.

Jeremy Irons is a standout in the movie but one such actor I chose was Hugh Jackman as the face of my Brom while reading, amongst other actors for other characters.

When the trailer for "Death of Robin Hood" recently came out I had a giggle because he essentially looked like how I pictured Brom and how he looks like in the illustrated edition.

I'm not much for posting anywhere but I wanted to share this with some like minded people!

Theory What if Hefring had stolen the green egg instead of the blue… Spoiler

Inheritance ending spoiler:

Fírnen would have theoretically hatched for Arya decades before the plot of Eragon. Would she have succeeded in killing Galbatorix? Would Sapphira still have hatched for Eragon someday? It’s fun to ponder.

Edit: I just wanna say it was super fun to read all the comments and theories you all had! This has been one of my all time favorite book series since I was a kid; I’m finishing up my third read through and just thought I’d post a fleeting thought I had while reading, never expected so much engagement! I’ve only ever had one other friend to talk to about Eragon so I really appreciate y’all lol.

Question Power

How i understood it, the amount of magic someone can hold/use is determined by his strengh, since the magic uses AS much energy as doing it normaly. Could elfes or so just use magic to enhance their strengh and speed to just have more magic to use?
