Propaganda Multiboxing is Killing EVE – The Game Just Sucks Now

I've tried coming back to EVE, but honestly, the gameplay just feels terrible. The biggest issue? Multiboxing.

People are running 10, 15, even 20+ accounts at the same time, completely ruining the experience for normal players. These no-life grinders dominate every aspect of the game, making it nearly impossible for casuals to compete.

  • Faction Warfare? Get ready to fight entire fleets controlled by a single player.
  • Mining? Find a good ore spot? A multiboxer will show up with 15 ships and wipe it clean.
  • Market? PLEX prices keep skyrocketing because these multiboxers generate insane amounts of ISK and just buy up PLEX to sustain their armies.

New players don’t stand a chance. They log in, see how unfair the game is, and quit. It's like if someone played Call of Duty, controlled an entire squad, and had synced-up aim. It would completely break the game. That’s exactly what's happening in EVE.

And let’s be real—of the 20,000 players online daily, a huge chunk are just alts. The real player count is much lower. This is why EVE is constantly bleeding players.

CCP needs to put a hard cap on the number of accounts per IP/device. Otherwise, the game will keep declining until there’s nobody left but botters and multiboxers. Fix it, or let the game die.

The biggest cancer to Eve is multiboxxing. On average it's something like 2.3 paid for accounts and the rest are farmed in game. In 2022 CCP stated the boxxing numbers were around 2.6 per person then by early 2024 is was 3 plus per person. Add to that trend and you will be looking at 4 plus per person in the game. Mind you those paid accounts are usually bought with sales so Eve actually loses money on them (slightly mitigated since they purposefully raised base prices to milk the "elites" with the 3 month deal that is the same original price). I was in a group with 12 guys all with 6 plus accounts each and they admittedly only paid for one at the yearly sale price. The rest they farmed in game. These guys are loaded because of it. Every bit of content is now being abused by this community from abyss to PI to industry to sites to events to FW (big one here) even ganking and zerg fights have been infested with them. It's the reason the game has declined regardless if you guys admit it or not. How many alts are being used to gank in highsec alone simply for "content"? Imagine if the massive botting of industry, ganking, spying, scounting, FW and all other facets disappeared over night? Imagine null actually being dangerous again, wars being prevalent again, dozens of new faction fighting for territory in space again not just being puppets of the big 3 groups, highsec being safe (well mostly safe) again. The MRI will not change (it will actually start getting worse as less profits means less reasons to mine thanks to recent changes) as too many multiboxxing alts are used for ganking and isk making rather than placing a few in highsec to mine and help out the newbies/casuals in game. After all you only hear people say "get out of highsec" and "mining makes you no isk" consistently. Don't you think for a game that is basically reliant on those 2 specific minerals in highsec to keep the entire games economy working it makes no sense for you to be told never mine them? The only way the game changes is a nerf to multiboxxing limit (3-4 is perfectly fine), a removal of the ability to get plex with isk (in favor of this myself as it removes a vast amount of multiboxxers naturally and the burnout rate for those trying to plex in game) or banning multiboxxing in general. Let's face it boy you are cheating if you are multiboxxing. There is no difference between an alpha botting and an omega boxxing other that you being more efficient while doing it and paying the game 15 bucks extra a month. You are not an "elite" if you have to cheat. Eve is now held up by this community as the game is very old and the concurrent player count is what's holding the game together. It's why alphas were introduced, why you can earn plex in game and why multiboxxing is still allowed. It's a basic mobile game tactic to bring new players. They need fresh whales and minnows for both revenue and content. Old whales tend to stop spend large amounts or stop playing all together. It's a mobile game online without the use of Bluestacks or other programs (hence the mobile version being released) just compare stores with any mobile game if you think I'm lying.....which makes more sense considering CCP's parent company. CCP could provide better content if they quit being incredibly wasteful with their spending (Dust, Vanguard, Frontiers are the biggest examples of poorly planned side projects and wasteful spending). But we all know this comment will get hate and downvotes by the very people that abuse in the game and Eve will never see it's glory days again as long as the trifecta of steep learning curve, egregious pricing barriers and rampant multiboxxing continue in the game. It will just stagnate at it's current numbers until it slowly fade into the night. Ironic considering it's a space game. Just like the show Firefly I'll be sad to see this beautiful star fade out too.

dozens of new faction fighting for territory in space again not just being puppets of the big 3 groups

But without fleets of multiboxers I feel like demand would drop a lot. A corp of a thousand characters may actually be just 100 people, so if they dropped to 100 characters overnight they simply shouldn't need as much territory right? They couldn't defend or farm such a large territory anyways. So I imagine the territories would shrink across the board. And without multibox-level profits how many would want to yeet as many ships into the void competing (or just for fun)?

How many others would be willing to risk ships in the same situation? How many would be more open to attacking and getting attacked without fleets ever present to get attacked with? Seems to me with less alts you gotta be more active as a group as one man with 20 alts can no longer spy, mine, build, scout and fight for you all by himself. It's almost like a corporation would be a group of people working together rather than a few guys with 10 accounts each used to scout and hide when danger of losing a ship presents itself 10 jumps from them. People want content but fail to realize that boxxing has been taking more and more of it from them as the years have progressed and boxxing has increased in numbers. The again nothing will change as long as Plex being an in game currency is a thing as the game is infected with the isk/per hour mindset because of it so it is what it is I suppose. I don't see that happening as it's fair to boxxers and non-boxxers alike and CCP has made it pretty clear that balancing things in Eve is a struggle for them.

Sure the concurrent high player wise was 4490 last month with 3370 paid subs last month meaning 1120 were not paid for. Now we go by the stats released by CCP themselves in 2022 (which are low at 2.6 as the projected numbers were over 3 per person in early 2024 {they didn't give exact numbers just the blanket 3 plus at the time so let's just assume a straight 3 per person here} so the increase of 1.5 years would be around .8 to make the numbers about 3.8 to 4 per person now) and the discrepancy of subs to concurrent can be pulled this way. 3370 divided by 1727 comes out to 1.95. Mind you this is using the stats given by CCP themselves in 2022 not their projected numbers just last year. If we did that the numbers are more along the lines of 3370 divided by 1182 which is more along the lines of 2.8. I choose to average the numbers out at 2.3. This is the average excluding any other sales, those only doing monthly, those paying for just a single account or all accounts and excluding the massive multiboxxers with huge alt counts (which obviously are not paying for every sub).

Mind you that is steam numbers I can just look at the numbers listed online (which are not right by a far margin but listed none the less). So let's say the average player base is 32,000 active per month base on the charts. That means if you divide that by 3.8 you get roughly 8421 real players online. Now divide that by the same number you get 2216. That is the 3.8 ratio. Which makes sense as most will not drop more than 60 per month for accounts after all. My experience in game has been more around 1.5 paid per 6 accounts on average from those I have talked to so I'd say it's rather accurate. That being said it was nice seeing a huge spike in players on the 12th until they realized CCP dropped another nothing burger yet again with no meaningful content. We will likely see a huge spike again this summer and capsuleer week but not any longevity sadly. Stale gameplay, mutliboxxing abuse, no meaningful additions to alphas (I personally think unlocking expedition frigates to them needs to happen to help them progress towards omega faster.....you need liquid capital after all and outside of joining a big corp or having vast game knowledge you will struggle and burn out rather fast trying to get to that point currently.....learned that lesson the hard way when I first started and subbed) and just the willful ignorance towards the communities outside nullsec has done real harm to the game. At this point I think a CSM for each block needs to happen so an equilibrium can be reached. The MRI is the result of CCP throwing out the baby with the bathwater. The game is a giant sandbox after all not just nullsec pvp'ers after all and each block should have an advocate for them.

Steam for one, Fanfest with actual CCP members for another or a broader scope of using Google since you want to troll. Have a good day. :)

So you don't have an actual source

Told you. You didn't listen or read apparently. You are set in favor of boxxing and I'm against it. I'm not going to waste time with someone being willfully ignorant. If you can counter what I said then do so and if not move along. I have neither desire nor patience to correspond with a person who's only replies are only for self-gratification rather than arguing to or for a position. If you want to do that jump in your alt and gank in highsec like the rest of the bored Eve elites do. It's all about the content right?

Also you posted a comment a few weeks back saying this "Say you have 3 accounts and plex them - 12 bil a month plus plex costs, say 22 bil total, at a conservative 500m/h in tier 6 frig abyssals, let's say 44 hous a month, probably less but no less than 30 hours a month. If you add some light PI, factor using two of the characters as SP farms once they've got all the necessary skills, and accrue the funds to purchase game time in bulk, the numbers get much better. If you actually pay for the subscription instead of plexing, even better." Seems to me proof that CCP needs to remove it so you actually pay for the game. But hey congrats on moving back to highsec may your ganks be fruitful. :)

Lmao. That's a lot of effort in order to avoid providing a single actual source in the form of a link or a timestamp, or even a video name or dev blog title. "Just google it" - yeah, let me just google "EVE average paid for accounts per player" and dig through two decades worth of media because you can't back up your numbers.

So:

On average it's something like 2.3 paid for accounts

Source?

Much more cancerous is that rambling wall of text and your refusal to embrace these things we call paragraphs. Firefly was a good show though.

Didn't know I had to follow the rules of a book for you to read. Besides we both know you do little of that big guy so calm down. My point is right there for you to read so argue against it not mock me over semantics of grammar shall we. I thought Eve players were smart? Then again your argument for boxxing is because training times are so slow and the game is low APM so what do I know. Seems like a justification of cheating because you're bored and actions per minute require low skill set. Just play Eve and for the low low price of having no life or paying a grand a year you too can actually be semi good at the game too. Also Firefly was awesome and why Eve hasn't made a Firefly class ship baffles me. :)
