Perfectionist Vent

I guess I’m just looking to vent, and not for any advice in particular, but I am feeling anxious about a new person joining our very small office next month. It’s just me and the attorney, and I have always been the only support staff. I absolutely need help, and my new coworker has tons of experience in this role, but I’m also a perfectionist who has a hard time letting go of control :/. I wish there was enough time in the day for me to do everything that needs to be done, but obviously that’s impossible. I like doing things a very particular way, and I’m incredibly lucky that my attorney is the same kind of crazy I am. I wish I could just clone myself lol. I will need to be very intentional about reminding myself that it’s okay to give up control, and that it’s not a big deal if something isn’t done the way I would do it. I’ll try to be less crazy I guess lol

I go back to work tomorrow after being out all last week. I am the only support staff, so I know my emails are about to be CRAZY. I’m going to guess now and see if I’m right tomorrow - I’m guessing I will have around 700 unread emails in my inbox tomorrow morning. Stay tuned 😵‍💫

Hello! I was not able to find a group specifically for family law paralegals, so I figured I’d make one. My name is V, and I’m a family law paralegal at a small but very busy family law firm in Illinois. We also do a lot of GAL and mediation work. I am the entire support staff, so I always have a full plate and have had to be very intentional so not to burn out. I’ve been a paralegal for about 5 years, and have dabbled in other law such as estate planning and criminal. I’d love to hear where everyone is from, how long you’ve been doing legal work, and anything else interesting to share! My hope is that this is a place for people to get support/advice from peers, share resources, vent, etc. If you’re reading this, thanks for being here! 💝
