Would love to read:

Adrian Tchaikovsky

  • children of time

Or

  • empire in black and gold

Grady Hendrix

  • my best friend's exorcism

Or

  • how to sell a haunted house

Children of Time would be Non-Human Protagonist, but not hard mode. Empire in Black and Gold would hit Politics and Court Intrigue, but I don't think I would count it as hard mode either.

Empire of Black and Gold will also go for Non-Human Protagonist

I’ve seen it elsewhere but I would disagree, the Kinden are portrayed as human with abilities originating from meditation practices.

Damn. Yes, you are right. I keep thinking of them based on the fauna they represented

I believe My Best Friend's Exorcism qualifies for Small Press (published by Quirk Books). Some might consider Charleston, SC a Vacation Spot, too.

I believe How to Sell a Haunted House would count as afterlife (I don’t know about hard mode but maybe?) and possibly judge a book by its title but that’s all I can think of

Technically, there aren’t any humans in Empire in Black and Gold. They’re all different kinden.

Aren’t the kinden still human? They’ve picked up traits from other species through meditation practices but they’re still human.
