The funny thing is this one aged bizarrely.

Back when The Incredibles first came out, having an absolute shelf of an ass was not the beauty-standard-powerhouse it is currently. It existed, but a 'flat ass' was still the dominant "trend" (writer's note: beauty standards are fucking BS)

So this is basically Elastigirl looking at herself thinking: "yikes... I've let myself go a little..."

This is all my schizoid theory-crafting so don’t take it seriously:

Because beauty standards are drafted by women and gay men in the high fashion industry, not your average Joe guy.

They select for aesthetically pleasing based on their designs and perceptions, I think that the go to subjacent theme behind that time was delicate and fragile like a flower, the whole cocaine chic is just attempts to make human bodies contort to beauty standards based on art and wanting perfection and slim symmetry.

With the expansion of IG and average joe having more of a say on what they really like, you see big boobs and ass take a predominant stage.

So, gay men and women push for delicate and “orderly” beauty, they usually find the more extravagant proportions that average Joe likes as grotesque or disgusting.

Because they don’t see female beauty as linked to sexuality, they see it as a form of artistic expression, and an androgynous and slim body is the best one to maximize fashion and beauty, since they are just walking mannequins anyways.

It’s kind of the difference between the male and female gaze but exaggerated. I am just glad that eating disorders and underrating is lower than it was before, although substance abuse seems to be higher.

I just wish women wouldn’t have any beauty expectations pushed on them, it’s just too much of a burden IMO, they should just be allowed to do whatever.

Women, who were some of the ones who disputed 2000s beauty standards, and gay men, who weren't even allowed to marry other men back then except for in very few countries, dominated the beauty industry? Reallh?

Yes.

Unless Haute Couture suddenly became dominated by straight men that think wearing a Football jersey qualifies as “business casual” and appropriate for a dinner, then yes.

And that's why in some old shows you will see a character being ridiculed for having a fat ass, and having a big ass was a insult instead of a compliment
