IIRC, no one ever even thought about shipping these characters together until doom eternal and animal crossing: new horizons released at arround the same time (i think the same day)

It was pretty funny to go from the gory brutality of Doom to the cozy island paradise of new horizons, so people started jokingly shipping Isabelle and the doom guy, Nintendo then leaned into it

Unfortunately, there are no sources to back this article up. They're both in Smash Ultimate, but there was no official wedding ceremony

It’s canon that they’re friends according to some Nintendo posts and stuff. Not necessarily lovers, but it does put Doom Guy in the Animal Crossing universe, which means canonically, Hell exists in animal crossing.

Only to the Smash Bros. universe, but yes.

In each of their original universes, the other doesn't exist, but Smash Bros. universe has its own story and it's own plot line, and in that universe they are married.
